    Excellent system for the price

After searching for weeks for a system that could fit my needs at my price range I settled on this system after hearing it in the store. It's an excellent system for the price and attached to the denon receiver I purchased with it, it is clear at higher volumes than I could possibly listen to. The sub is a bit boomy though, and it has a tendency to vibrate so much that the sound detracts from the movie. Listening to music on this system is nice, but not great. That is to be expected with small speakers, but these speakers do a better job than most with music. However if music is your primary reason for purchasing speakers I'd recommend saving for some better front tower speakers to do it justice.

    Great small speaker set-up! However....

Let's get this clear right from the start. Yes, these sound MUCH better than the Bose Acoustimass speakers. They have more range, are louder, clearer, and are MUCH cheaper. However, never forget that these are SMALL speakers. While they sound excellent for the size, they are never going to be able to replicate the depth of sound of a good bookshelf and especially a full-tower speaker. That said, this is a stellar choice for someone wanting a mid-to-higher end surround sound system that is small and packs a punch. That's not to say it's now without it's flaws. Now on to the review: Pros: -Excellent speaker design- just picking it up you can tell the build quality is there (they are pretty heavy for their diminutive size!). Definitive is known for the great build quality on the towers, and these speakers are no exception. -Very good sound quality from the speakers- though a bit on the bright side. This is not a flaw in the speaker so much as a limitation from the size. Again, that mid-range punch is lacking- however, unless you're listening primarily to music (and if you are, then you shouldn't be buying small speakers!), you won't notice. They sound great and can easily fill a large room in a movie setting, provided you have a great receiver. -The set has a TRUE (albeit small) center channel. Most of the other brands tend to through in 5 piece matching speaker design (like Bose, for example) - however, Def Tech has been thoughtful and provided a traditional center channel. This makes a very big difference in sound quality- the main speaker in a surround sound system during a movie is the center channel. -Being that they are small, they can literally disappear in a room, especially when mounted on the walls. They also come in a white finish as well to hide better with white walls. -EASY and CHEAP way to build a 7.1 setup. Add two towers or bookshelf speakers and you have a cheap and great 7.1 surround sound system. Cons: I'm going to digress and point out that there is a difference between true cons and nit-picks. I'll point this out as I go: -The included subwoofer is sub-par. While it's not bad for a movie experience, it just doesn't have the same punch and depth as a traditional Def Tech (or other brand) stand alone subwoofer. However, realize that this entire speaker package is $799- a great subwoofer can be $500 alone. My advice is to try it out and if you don't like the sound, add a better one! There's no "surround sound package" that's going to be perfect. -These speakers do not like to be "over-driven." What I mean is that if you have either a) a receiver that's too powerful or b) a receiver that's underpowered- and you like to crank the volume up...then expect to have blown speakers in the not-too-far future. A great amp is the key to these things sounding as good as they do and have a long life. Don't expect 100% reliability if you abuse them (which is true about most speakers). That said, Def Tech has a 5-year-warranty (and BBY's Geek Squad makes it 9 years!!) so if you blow a speaker it's not the end of the world. Nitpicks and random thoughts. -Those of you complaining about not having speaker wire or a subwoofer cable included clearly have never had a home-theater-in-box from another manufacturer. I'm actually GLAD they don't provide the cables because usually included cables are beyond terrible. They're absolutely atrocious. Seriously, why spend so much money on a good speaker package, a good receiver, and then skimp on something as important as wiring? Good speaker wiring (and subwoofer) cable is relatively inexpensive and makes a DRAMATIC difference in sound quality. Don't be cheap! --The speaker mounts are not included in the box. If you plan on wall-mounting the speakers, then you have to purchase Def Tech specific wall-mounts. These aren't exorbitantly expensive like the Bose mounts so it's not bad, but it's annoying that universal mounts don't work. That said, the mounts allow the speakers to pivot and are great quality! All-in-all an excellent speaker package- especially when you factor in the low cost. Yes, you can buy a Polk Audio or Klipsch speaker package for cheaper, but I guarantee you will not come close to the sound quality, build quality, or longevity of these.

First we purchased a 46" LCD Samsung HDTV. LOVE IT.Then we set out to find a surround package to fit our room. After doing some research and review reading I was determined to have myself a bose system. So I went to BB to purchase the bose acoustamas 10 series and told the salesperson that I was going to use an older reciever with them until I could save up to buy a new one. He then turned me over to the Magnolia ppl at BB. This package with a new Denon reciever for the same price as the Bose. WOW what a deal. After a 10 min demo I was sold. The sound was tremendous. Clear, crisp with deep bass. Set-up was fairly simple and I am still trying to figure out the reciever. This speaker package is a great buy for the money alone. Throw in the reciever too and it's a no brainer for under $1000.00.

I bought these for my new LG 47" flat screen. Connected them to my Sony reciever and WOW! Incredible sound and the sub woofer will rock your world! I now know what a home theater system is suppose to sound like. These speakers may be small, but provide exceptional sound. I didnt wire my front speakers directly to the sub woofer as recommended in option 1 and may try it later, but for now I can't imagine it sounding any better than they do now. Highly recommend!

My old but gold Hi-Fi system is an Onkyo Amp /Nakamichi Deck + CD/Marantz EQ & Bose 601 Series III which I have had for over 20 years. I was very skeptical on purchasing the Definitive Technology - ProCinema 600 5.1, to which I added Pro 800 x 2 to upgrade to 7.1; I must confess, this system has incredible sound!! You must watch a movie with sound system on DTS Master 7.1 to hear its outstanding quality.

As an owner of Bose surround sound system and I thought I would never switched, this home theater system really made an statement when I tested it at the Magnolia Store. I prefer the recommended set up by the manufacturer, it sounded better because the front speakers and the subwoofer are working together. These speakers make watching movies at home more fun, sound effects and dialogue are crisps and clear and don't forget the subwoofer- for it's size it really delivers. I thought I would get another sub but for the size of my living room this sub is enough to make the floor vibrate. Although I prefer my bose system when it comes to playing music/cd, this system is not bad on this category either, they are just better for movies. This home theater system makes analog sounds better and digital sound at its best. I will give a rating of 4.5 stars and recommendations to my friends.

I got this package to go along with my Pioneer Elite receiver and I am absolutely thrilled with the sound that I am getting. I wanted a 5.1 surround sound system, but I didn't want massive speakers in my room. These speakers are not only small, but they put out a great sound. They aren't meant for a massive theater room, but they are great for being used in a normal/bigger room for surround sound. The only thing that is weird is that you have the option of wiring the front speakers into the sub. I just wired everything the standard way, into my receiver. I also went ahead and purchased the geek squak 2.1 speaker setup because I didn't want wires from the front of my room to the rear of my room. I expected to end up having to patch holes in my walls, but they just ran the wires under the carpet and I can't even feel them when I walk around the room. If you're a pro, you may not need geek squad. But I got it because I wanted it done right the first time by pros.

This set of speakers got paired with a Denon 2200 AVR, and produced wonderful sound. You can't go wrong with this unit. There are other budget-friendly options, but it hits the sweet spot without breaking the bank and not taking too much space for apartment dwellers.

Great product and highly recommend these since it packs a lot of clean power from such a small unique design with plenty of bass clean highs . I was surprised how these blew away the Bose. I researched many systems and finally went with definitive technology .im using them with a denon AVR -1613 receiver and I believe I could use a higher end model as these speakers would handle the power. Thanks best buy for carrying an awesome product

I live in an apartment and needed a small speakers surround sound system that didn't look bulky, and this is a perfect set! The speakers, though they are small, pack a big punch and sound great. The center channel is crisp and the surround speakers are accurate. The sub woofer has adjustable bass for all styles as well. If you are looking for a quick, easy solution for an all in one system, this is perfect. Pair it with a nice receiver and maybe some tower speakers later and this could make for a great home theater system.

I've had these speakers for three weeks and continue to be amazed that small speakers can produce such crisp sound. I wasn't in the market for speakers until my Harmon Kardon receiver died so I decided to replace my cheap cheap cheap, 15 year old Sony speakers at the same time. Paired with the Yamaha Aventage 630 in a small room they are just what I needed. To be fair, they don't compare to the Martin Logan's or B&W MM1's but I didn't want to spend that kind of money either. If you are looking for speakers with a small footprint and big sound then this is the system for you. One recommendation: follow the DT recommended speaker wiring. While unconventional I found that it provides superior sound. Others say they have had success with conventional wiring so I have a feeling it depends on your space and how they are used. You will need additional speaker wire because the front speakers wire directly into the sub and the sub is then wired to the front output from the receiver. You will also need a quality LFE RCA-to-RCA cable to complete the connection. I highly recommend this system for a small room and you really can't beat the value.

I bought this speaker set being skeptical of going w/ a boxed home theater set. I am very happy with the sound quality, volume, and clarity of these speakers. My 5.1 sounds great in my game room, and anything Digital puts off very nice surround sound. The set-up was very simple, and these speakers really do pack a punch. I'd recommend this set to anyone looking for a high quality speaker without having to piece a set together with individual pieces.

I shopped both circuit city and best buy for a great pair of speakers in this price range for my new receiver, and I love them. Great sound, I also bought a pair of stands and they were easy to set up and look great. Best buy by far had a better selection to choose from and expert help to answer all my questions.

i had an Onkyo out of the Box (HTB) 7.1 system with an absolutely wonderful receiver and a not so good speaker/sub combo. Actually, while i read how good the Onkyo receiver was, I never realized that until i bought this DT 5.1 system. I bought this from my local BestBuy store 4 weeks back and have been absolutely delighted with the results. i still keep the 2 middle Onkyo speakers, but the change in the quality of sound is just unbelievable. I can hear so many sounds that i never could hear before - the different sound effects are so distinct and clear that its almost like sitting in a theatre - i love my home theatre now. I am planning to buy 2 DT 800 series speakers as well to complete the sound experience. For anyone looking to do a home theatre , the Onkyo HTB was a good beginner level system for me, but the DT is truly an upgrade to the middle to high range. The sub sets the low levels so well and goes well with the speakers that pick it up from there. Absolute best buy - i also enjoyed the great knowledge and help of the Magnolia staff at BestBuy

Bought DT 600 5.1 system w/Yamaha 660 avr last yr and still love the system. Performs very well for movies and music. Only issue is that I have sent DT a couple of e-mail requests, one for setup and one for a system upgrade and BOTH times got "form letter" email responses that basically said that they were too busy to answer my questions. In the last case I was asking about some upgrades to the 600 that would have involved buying DT components and after receiving their non-response I bought a Klipsch system from BB instead, their loss. Anyway, lack of service has dropped my rating from a 5-star to a 4-star.

What else to say other than it looks great and sounds as good as it looks. I I was looking for small speakers to hang on the wall for my living room and these did not disappoint. The only issue I had is that you'll need to buy the def tech mounts if your are planning on putting them on your wall. I tried a variety of universal mounts with no luck.

    Awesome sound, funny wiring....

I almost returned this until I wired it "my way". The manual says for best sound, to wire the speakers to the sub woofer then to the amplifier/receiver (similar to a Bose setup). I did it their way and had VERY disappointing bass. I personally like my house to shake when there is an explosion in a movie but with the suggested setup I'd be lucky to even feel the bass from across the room. So I wired it the standard way (directly to the receiver) and wha'la, awesome sound. I don't know if it was because my receiver auto calibrates for the best sound or what, but standard wiring worked best for my setup. So onto the sound, AWESOME. Very clean highs and good bass. The speakers are perfectly matched for sound, so you dont have to keep lower or raising the volume when watching a loud or quiet part of a movie. I've owned Bose and Klipsch before and for the money, this is the best. Yes you could drop $2k on a Klipsch or Bose system but for $799 you can't beat this system. Only thing I was a little disappointed about was that there are no speaker wires included, not even a sub woofer cable. So don't forget to buy those. Oh, only reason I didnt give it "excellent" for power is that I wish it came with a bigger sub woofer but thats just me.

This speaker package for the price is outstanding. I picked up this set with a Harman/Kardon 247 and just simply cannot believe the sound I get from my games, movies, and music. It's taking everything I can throw at it with plenty of headroom left. I have this setup in a 20x18 ft room with a vaulted ceiling. I have the sub placed in a corner of the room and have the two front speakers connected to the sub like the option 1 method suggests in the instructions. WOW. You just cannot beat a speaker set like this for the price. If you are looking for a quality theater experience for the price this is definitely the way to go. I have a PS3 for my blu-ray player and the other night the wife and I sat down to watch Casino Royale with uncompressed 5.1 english and were blown away with the sound. Truely a theatrical experience for the home. For the price and quality you'd be expecting way too much from your budget to pass on this deal.

I just replaced my stereo I've had since 1990 and it's taking a little bit to get used to the sub & surround set up. I've been jamming with large, house shaking speakers (300 watt RMS, dual 12" drivers, 3-way towers) and I wasn't sure what to expect with this new set up. I was pleasantly surprised. I love the rich sound the system has at low volumes. My old speakers required a lot more power before the low end could really be appreciated. The one situation where these can't be my old system is jamming outside, but that's not what I bought them for. What they excel at is home theater. My home theater is set up in a 16'x18' room and the fill it with sound without a problem. Deep bass, crisp highs and clear voices.
