Customers are saying

Customers praise the W Studio Micro 3.1-Channel Soundbar for its exceptional sound quality, with many saying it is great. They also appreciate its easy setup process and the powerful bass from the wireless subwoofer. The low profile and modern design of the soundbar also receive positive feedback. However, some customers have concerns about the remote control, which can stop functioning after a year, and the connectivity issues experienced by a few users. Additionally, a small number of customers feel that the soundbar is overpriced.

It's pretty much useless for me because they cannot play music on all 5 channels (including the 2 wireless rear speakers that cost $400 each) and be in 5.1. The other, more serious issue was that ive had it less than a year and it is pretty much bricked at this point. Will not work! Cheap crap!

The Geek squad had problems initially setting it up, needed three updates to even begin. Sounded good but had lip sync problems, no adjustment possible. Tech support says known problem live with it because we sound so good. Bought a Sony sound bar works great with the TV, has a lip sync adjustment.

    Great Soundbar for Price Range

I purchased this sound bar about 30 days ago. Although you do have to set up your ranges based on the type of viewing you are doing, it is a solid sound once you get it configured to what you want from your sound. The product is simple to set up but if you are like me you want to tweak it to exactly what you desire from the what you are watching. The power of the bar is great for a medium to large room. I chose to connect with optical cable and the sub is also a great product.

Wanted something small for the office space that wouldn't require much work. I wanted fantastic sound and that is what I got from Def Tech. not a lot of customizability for sound options but this is my first ever sound bar, so I am not positive if that is common. I am used to large receivers giving me plenty to work with. Would have liked to see more options for input/outputs for all around controlling but it does what I need it to.

Bought this after spending way too long reading reviews. it replaced a klipsh thx 2.1 computer speaker system that was very very old with tons of wires but produced a sound we were accustomed to. Purchased a polk SB1 about 8 months previous but despite being from the same stable it sounded awful in our house and went back. listened to the w studio and really liked it but could not justify price and was worried about lifespan. in the store the studio micro sounded very quiet which was off putting but once it was installed in a home it was fine. definitely sounds best with least tweeks, center and bass at defaults and music setting for music. system sits one the end of a long room about 20 ft by 40 ft and is used for tv or streaming music in combination with w amp and pair of sb55 at the other end of the room. all works very nicely together. woofer needed a bit of moving about and now sits a few inches from the wall next to the tv. generally watch tv pretty quiet and its crystal clear with good thump when needed. Although i am not convinced i do feel sound has improved of the past couple of weeks of use. really love this system and very glad took the leap to play-fi, even in single room having mutliple sources set up with just a simple wifi connection is awesome - no way i would ever get round to doing it wired.

Disappointing, wish I could return it

If I would have known all the quirks with this instead of hoping I would get used to it, I would have returned it within the return policy. I've been using this for 6 months and it's not reliable. The setup is really annoying, you have to download 2 separate apps to get everything to work and get ready to have to install a few updates once you have donwloaded the apps takes an hour. The system has no bluetooth compatibility so you have to setup the app and link each user to the hardware. This also eliminates the possibility of having guests easily connect to the hardware to play their own music from their own services. There is an optional wired option for the subwoofer but it creates odd feedback sounds when the hardware is left on but there is no sound source. What also has been really frustrating is if I use the app to play music but then want to stop and watch TV, have to power cycle the hardware a few times for it to understand that it should be playing sound from the TV. Another really frustrating repeated experience is when I want to do some chores and play music with the hardware, when go through the App it notifies me there is a mandatory hardware update and it needs to download and update the hardware, I can't delay this update and it's prevents me from using the hardware when I want to use it, 20-30 minutes it takes to complete these changes. The app should notify me when there is a required update so I can find a convenient time to install the updates to the hardware but it should also let me delay the process. The remote moderately awful, due to shape and how they have designed the buttons you can't tell if you have grabbed it backwards or forwards and since there is no illumination to the buttons, this makes it unnecessarily difficult to control. If the butons would be displayed in a way where you can feel the button pattern to tell what is the top and bottom it would be better, also optional illumination would be great. It's also so small and thin it's hard to get the remote signal to hit the right spot to control the hardware. Overall really unhappy with this item, it has pretty good sound when it works. Oh that reminds me sometimes the bass gets too loud but it doesn't remember that you had previously turned the bass down on the subwoofer, so if there is a show/movie/music you like to watch/listen and it is always a little too much bass, have fun turning the bass down every time you want to watch/listen to it.

    Sounds good but not convenient

To be fair, I want mention this upfront that my husband and I purchased this based on an employee recommendation, without doing our own research. This soundbar sounds very nice, but the lack of convenience has made us hate it, thus the 3-star rating. To turn it on, we have to hit the "On" button twice. It DOES NOT work with our TV remote (Xfinity XR11) and we've tried all the codes. So now we have to use two remotes and hope we don't lose the Definitive remote because it's solid black and very small. The remote is terrible; it's super hard to read. Half the time we have it upside down and the volume goes the other way! To connect the sound system, you have to download their PlayFi app. If you're an apple user like us, forget it. iTunes does not work with it. I have yet to get it to connect to other apps. If you need directions to do so, you have to download them from the website -- forget trying to call them. I wish we could return it, because we would, but we no longer have the box and I wish we would have done our own research first because we would not have purchased this soundbar.

I read probably 100 different reviews of sound bars and decided to go into Best Buy to listen to some of them. The Definitive Technology was easily the best sounding one. I was able to get it at a discount so the price was right. Setting it up took a little bit of time (30 minutes or so) because of the wifi connection. It would be nice to have but tooth but they say wifi sounds better. The app isn't as bad as some people say. Amazon music and Sirius music sound amazing on it. It really sounds like a true stereo system. The sub is plenty powerful for your living room. Give it a listen.

Def Tech Micro - Answer to TV's with no ARC

    Posted .

My wife and I originally picked the Samsung K950 from the VA Beach store. However, we had to return it a day after due to multiple issues we faced(I will highlight this in my K950 review). We met with Eric at the Magnolia store and he ran us through multiple options again. Originally I had shortlisted the Wstudio, but the micro was never on my shopping list. We own a 50 inch Samsung Plasma tv with no ARC capability. Due to this shortcoming, our choices were very limited, and we were blown by the demo Eric showcased us. He plugged a regular Aux cable on his phone and played us the Joker interrogation scene from TDKR. We immediately knew this was what we needed. We watch movies(Movies from India, Hollywood and Internationally acclaimed movies) and Sports(NFL/soccer) a lot, so the dialogues are very important for us. We have still not cranked up the volume beyond 3 bars and still love the depth and the sound that this tiny beast produces. We are very satisfied so far. Many reviews will showcase that the lack of bluetooth as a shortcoming, however, with the Def tech app you can still play all your music from your ipad/iphone/android devices(we own all 3). I would have given a full 5 star rating but for another minor glitch with their remote(for the time being i have configured it on my logitech harmony). We are going to contact Def tech customer service to see how they can help us. All in all, a great buy.

Great sound from low to high. Bass is terrific! Treble is good, but I wish it were adjustable. Sound is far better than the lower priced ones from Samsung, Sony, Vizeo or LG. The folks from Definitive Tech certainly know how to make speakers. By the way, my remote wasn't working either. I called DT and they gave me an easy fix - which worked. Just unplug bar and subwoofer for 5 minutes, re-plug them in, and turn it on using the remote. Just had to be rebooted.

I got this a few months after the Sony 65" purchase but missed out on the few hundred $$$ off on a SONY soundbar deal w/ TV purchase. But no harm done! No wonder this soundbar was inside the MAGNOLIA show room! In a nutshell, I was looking at a few soundbars from: SONY, Samsung/HK, BOSE, and SONOS... I didn't want to spend more than the TV, lol! but lucky I bumped into the sales person who sold me the SONY TV (Charles @ Emeryville BB - thank you!) Told him how much I wanted to spend and felt bad I missed the soundbar deal w/ the TV. We went around listening to different soundbars, but steered me inside the MAGNOLIA show room. Usually when you enter this area = $$$. There happen to be a soundbar within my budget and after a flipping around to different soundbars, the DT micro blew me away! There's 2 settings: music and movie and settings to decrease bass and vocals. I have this set on music, the voices pops better buy YMMV due to room setting and size. The soundbar sounds awesome and nicely made (aluminum) BUT: 1. the APP (android) to stream music is bad and hasn't been updated in years! 2. setup on the wireless takes a bit so be patient and have a few beers on the side! Once you have this set, dont worry about it unless you reset the soundbar. 3. a year later, the soundbar crashed! it made popping noises and turned into a high pitched siren! Lucky I was able to contact support online and they called and email me with a new updated firmware and this was during the CV-19 pandemic! 4. No bluetooth, HDMI ARC, or ATMOS - this was a rush purchase but the TOSLINK/OPTICAL is able to bump hard with clarity against SB under $600. 5. Remote control, blah... I was able to sync the TV remote, ROKU, and NVDA SHIELD to control the volume. I would recommend another DF for its quality and sound.

    not bad at all

I just received one like this yesterday. First off, installation was easy. My issue is the remote that's not working, though replacement is coming. Then, when I program the speakers on the setting(optical output) of my 4K Samsung TV which is already synched with my Time Warner Cable, I still have to manually adjust the volume since my cable remote won't work to adjust the volume. Second, when playing music or watching movies, the sub stops working and then comes back on every now and then. I talked to customer support, was advised to just move the sub and the router so that it won't be too close to the soundbar (mounted below the TV) to avoid interference. So, I moved the sub about 4 feet from the sound bar to the corner with the router standing on top of it. However, same thing happens with the sub. In a nutshell, sub is lacking punch when turned up yet overall, nice buy for a fair price. And oh, plus the D app which is awesome.

    Poor Surround Set-up & Sound

I had to download an App (Two (2) Apps!) on my phone to "attempt" to get the rear speakers to work. 3 hours later, all updates for the speakers complete and still will not working w/ the Def Tech sound bar and subwoofer. The inserts of the 800 number to call for assistance are inaccurate on when the call center is open - always closed when I call. In addition to the side speaker problems, both the sound bar and sub connected fine to 4K TV but provide mediocre surround sound, at best. After paying $1000 for the entire system, I expected to be "wow'ed" when watching a movie. Now I am packing up the system for return.

They did not have this on display at my local Best Buy so I went by the reviews posted here and Definitive Technologies great reputation. I had Geek Squad do the install along with my new Samsung 55” TV. The sound is excellent that comes out if this system. Nice low profile sound bar that does not block any portion of the TV. Subwoofer puts out enough oomph to make a nice difference. Voices are clear as day...much better than the Bose System that I moved into my office. I paid $899 but one week later it went on sale for $499 and Best Buy price matched! Nice!

    Good Sound But Misses Mark

Upon the suggestion of the sales dude at Best Buy I purchased this bar. I replaced a Sony ( which was awful ) The sound is outstanding and the wireless subwoofer has a great response and really is nice that you can place it in the corner. My biggest complaint ? I spent 2000+ for a Google enabled TV where I can say "Google turn on Sony TV " Which works perfectly yet then I have to find the generic no name looking remote to turn on the sound bar. For 900.00 you would think there would be a way to link the TV and sound bar to turn on - nope its not capable of that. THat fact really dropped the review from 5 stars to 3 ( actually Im sorry I bought it for this annoying fact. ) Yes if you let it turn off by itself it is supposed to turn on with the TV but really ???

I purchased the W Studio Micro system 8 months ago. The sound was good but the woofer was subtle. About a month after this purchase, I purchased a set of wireless W7 wireless surround sound rear speakers. They were not very loud. Now, the W Studio system will no longer hook up to the rear speakers! DT sent new W &'s but they still will not hook up so the problem is in the sounder itself .However, now DT will NOT return my calls and emails. When I call I am put on hold for LONG periods of time so I finally give up! They seem to be just ignoring their warranty responsibility!! DO NOT BUY DEFINITIVE TECHNOLOGY! THEY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR EQUIPMENT BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE!!
