    Most laptops these days save space and money by not being equipped with an optical drive, something we needed as we still have a few programs on CD. This was an easy, inexpensive solution, rather than paying much more for a laptop that has it built in.

    I had a specific need for this item and it performed the function to a "Dell Standard" of excellence out of the box. If you have a need for this item I would recommend it. I caught it on sale at Best Buy and think it was the best value for the dollar spent.

    I haven't taken this out of the box yet. My old computer had the DVD player in it. My son recommended that I buy this so I will have it on hand when I need it. I'm still learning to use all the features of my new laptop and will certainly get around to using this component before long.

    Works great, need it for my new laptop which is very hard to find a laptop with a built in dvdwr anymore. Burner works good too, being how I still have half a stack of black disc I didn't want them to go to waste.
