Connected to my Mac Book Pro and it only opened one CD of photos. It froze on the 2nd CD. The computer is protected with Malware Bytes, but I could not run it, I could not navigate with the track pad, and I had the dreaded pinwheel. A call to Apple Support got the computer up and running after about 50 min with the support tech. I returned this Dell DVD Drive the next day and purchased an Apple product which is working great with both laptops.

Since the sound it made changed shortly before it went dead, this was presumably a mechanical failure. Has seen no abuse; has been safely standing on my computer desk for the month, and I live alone. Should have bought the much cheaper non-Dell one. Return window was 2 weeks or so.

However, there are times it makes a slightly high-pitched noise when playing DVD's you can hear in a quiet room.
