After a couple of months of researching for a cheap external DVD drive for my laptop I opted for this model. There are mixed reviews as with any electronic device. I haven't had any problem with it but on the safe side I purchased the Geek Squad protection plan just in case. I've only played DVDs on it and it works fine with a DELL laptop running Windows 10. I'm using VLC for the media player and my operating system is running the latest patches (updates). To answer a question I saw for this product, when I insert the DVD it'll automatically launch my media player (VLC). Every computer will react differently due to the personal settings that you have configured for it.

The Dell-DW316 8x Slim External USB DVD&RW/CD Drive is a great tool that allows you to have portable DVD/CD capability on any computer that has USB connectivity. It was literally plug-n-play.

Such a lot for so little. I bought it just in case. I haven't used a cd or dvd in so long, but the price was so tempting, I had to get one.

I am old school, was not enthused to see laptops did not contain disc drives. I have a dvd collection of titles not generally found on the streaming services. This dvd drive is the best solution to my dilemma. I have used this drive quite a bit since getting it and I am very satisfied with it's performance. I have not tried ripping or burning with this device yet, but very happy with the playback of my commercial dvd recordings. It is very compatible with my new laptop, the only drawback is it is a little hard to manage sitting in my lounging chair. I may attach some velcro to my laptop to help keep it in place.

I needed a DVD drive for my Lenovo laptop to load the TurboTax disc and figured it would also be handy to have to access the many photos I have on DVDs. I didn't want to spend a fortune for something that would only be used intermittently. This was basically plug and play, with no complications whatever, and at a good price. I ordered online, picked up at the store and was able to start working on my taxes the same day.

i got this to watch dvds on my laptop and to import cds to itunes, both of which it can do! its lightweight and easy to travel with as well. my next venture is to try burning cds with it, but i'm not sure if its capable... yet. lol

Great little DVD/CD writer. Excellent price. Most tower systems are no longer having a spot for internal DVD writers, but this thing is perfect to keep nearby your tower

The Dell portable USB Slim DVD worked like a charm. No hassle at all, straight out of the box. No driver needed, no configuration required!!! With the included USB cable I just connected it straight to my desktop PC, like a plug-n-play, and in no time at all, I was loading my program in DVD unto my desktop harddrive flawlessly!

This is a great product at a great price. In a world where none of the laptops in my house no longer have disc drives, this came in clutch. I primarily used this to make some mix burned CDs as gifts but I was also able to read some old data discs that had some very old pictures of my kids. So glad I bought this, excited to think of the possibilities of what I can do next.

Perfect for today's laptops that are slim and don't have bulky drives built in. Only draw back is the drive doesn't come with DVD software to watch movies.

This burner was purchased to load a game on my HP laptop that doesn't have a burner. Not only did it work perfectly but was almost silent and fast. Windows 11 had it working in less than 17 seconds after plugging in to the usb port. This is perfect for any software install on a macine without a DVD.

I like how light weight this product is but wish it had more external ports. I'm working through the new windows 11 platform. It's a work in progress ‼️

Works great but it’s a bit slow. Can’t beat the price though so it’s a great value.
