Dell 8X USB DVD drive - buy Dell for reliability

External Optical Drive Get The Job Done.

Optical drive that was built into my laptop died. This one is both powered and interfaces via a USB port. Interface is slightly slower than the original drive. Now that modern laptops are no longer equipped with optical drives, the device has a future in my household as well.

Review of Dell - USB Slim DVD+/- RW Drive

I needed computer access to legacy cd's and dvd's since there was no internal drive on the laptop. I simply plugged it into the USB port and it worked perfectly immediately. Having an "add on" device like this which is only used periodically lessens the laptop weight.

Good for basic

It works for using with my HP 2 in 1, and it does what I need it to do. It’s not as loud as the older Samsung I had that it replaced. Does what I need it to do.
