In the field of music I needed the ability to play and rip CDs. This unit does very well. Simple plug and play. No downsides that I can see after using for several months.

Easy to use

Write speed is standard and doesn’t take too long to write a CD-RW. The casing seems cheap and not very durable but it is lightweight which makes up for it. Comes with USB cord that plugs right into your computer and does not require AC or DC cord in order to supply power.

This has cyberlink and power2go and it doesn't appear to expire. Plus I got a great black Friday price for this to go with my new laptop.

The software that comes with the unit only works on one chosen computer though.
