Pretty sweet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice laptop. Great for all around use and pretty good for gaming too with a decent cpu and a nice nvidia graphics card. Needs more memory to make it a really good gaming computer as it only has 8 gig but it is ddr5 memory which is better than ddr4. You can add another 8 gig of ddr5 to give you 16 Gb and you'll have a pretty potent gaming laptop for a good price. Just be sure to get ddr5 since ddr4 won't work. Even if you don't want to add memory it's still a nice laptop with decent gaming potential. It just may not handle some of the newer more intense games but great for general use. At this price it's still a good buy. I really like the build quality and design. It seems that dell has put a lot of effort into this and it shows. It doesn't try to be the thinnest or lightest laptop but instead goes more for style and efficient cooling which I prefer over the thinner designs which run hotter. I also like that the power, hdmi, and usb-c ports are in the back. There's also one of the usb-a ports in back. It makes the ports seem less crowded together and more roomy and kind of less cluttered than cramming them all on the sides. The unique color and style of the case, grey with speckles, also appeals to me. The nvidia RTX 3050 graphics card is a nice gaming card though it only has 4 Gb of dedicated ram. Still enough to run most games pretty well. I already ordered some more ram to up it to 16 Gb. Should give it a bit more punch for the latest games. It's pretty easy to install if you're handy and not too expensive. Dell has some pretty good documentation including a nice service manual available online if you need it. Doesn't hurt to check it out before you open up the case. Nice display with 120 hz refresh rate adds to the gaming appeal. The ssd drive could be bigger but I have an external ssd that I may use if needed. I like it and it's a quality laptop for a reasonable price.

Great entry level gaming laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop has a lot of bang for your buck with a few caveats. First off, the form factor is awesome. It’s bulky but feels stalwart. What you’re basically looking at here is a lower level Alienware computer without the branding. Which is fine by me if you you’re not worried about brand recognition. Because inside is where it counts. The Ryzen 5 that they pack inside is more than enough to handle mid level games and the RTX 3050 works really well with displaying games as they should be. The only performance issues I had were a reduction in frame rates when unplugged. Running on the battery seemed to really stress out the computer during online multiplayer even when put in performance mode. The reduced frame rate left me a little disheartened. Once plugged in though it ran like a dream. There is even a high performance key ( marked with a “G” ) that will turn on the internal fans which significantly helps keep the temp waaay down for increased performance in more high end games. The only problem with those is they are really noisy. Anyone who uses this will definitely want to invest in some nice headphones to alleviate that problem. The internal speakers are good but not great, they lack in low-end and the mids are kinda muddled. I did numerous multitasking experiments to see how much it could handle and even with only 8 gigs of ram (which can be upgraded) it handled it well. Again with the performance button if necessary but that was rarely the case. The battery is where this computer really sees it’s downside however. It gets a meager 1-1 1/2 hours of gaming unplugged which is ok for smaller sessions but anything longer and you’ll want to bring your power cord with you. I guess my take away with this is if you want a portable gaming rig that works amazingly plugged in this one’s for you. It’s portable sure, but benefits greatly from being attached to a power supply.

Absolutely unreliable
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I never write reviews, but here I am. This computer is fine and capable, but the reliability has been absolute trash. Well under a year of ownership and intermittent use at best, I began getting BSOD repeatedly. That seemed to have gone away, but now it won't even start up properly. I have it plugged into the charger and it says "battery is critically low" and shuts down automatically. I've owned probably a dozen different laptops across various manufacturers and never had issues close to this frequency/severity. Vote with your dollars.
