New laptops are fun. This one was for my wife, so she can retire her older one that just wasn't cutting anymore.
She isn't a hardcore gamer, but newer titles and the way she uses the machine needed a little more kick. So setup was a piece of cake, pre-installed with Windows 11, out of the box, it only needed to run for about 10-15 minutes tops to get all the latest updates. That as great (and obviously as time goes on, may need to run a little longer but will be quick).
Near instant boot up time, which is great. Push button and in just a moment or too, you are at the login page, and ready to go. Very nice.
So with graphic based programs (Corel Draw and Corel Paint), runs very well. These are older versions so they are not optimized for Windows 11, but still run extremely well on this machine. MS Publisher, runs smooth, even when the project gets very very large, no issues.
The laptop is a little larger then some of the others out there. But in my opinion, that is good. some laptop have been getting so small, that they are almost like tablets. This has a good weight to it. Easy to carry, but also not overly heavy that you can't carry it in a bag for a good while.
The power supply, well... that is bulky, but so far, the battery life has been excellent. So easy enough to use without it.
With back to school in swing, this will make a great laptop for a college student, that needs the power for both school work and downtime

There are several ways to help improve the performance of your computer if it is running slower than you expected it to. We'd recommend the following steps to help improve your computer's overall performance and speed:
1. Restart your computer regularly. 2. Run the automated tools provided in the SupportAssist Tool. 3. Run a complete hardware diagnostic test. 4. Scan your computer for malware. 5. Restore your Dell computer using Windows System Restore. 6. Reinstall Microsoft Windows. 7. Ensure Windows Update and BIOS is up-to-date. 8. Run Windows Task Manager to check if any device usage over 90%. If yes, try to End Task to some processes which use higher resource.

I do video editing professionally and my nephew is a dedicated gaming nurd. This device is a great value and our testing confirms this.
Out of the box yields the device and a 180 watt power supply. As a gaming laptop portability is not the high point starting with the power supply which is very bulky but also very useful as it provides important horsepower for needed functions.
The screen pivots slightly forward of the back of the screen so laying it flat or doing yoga moves is out of the question. Also, no touch screen which for our usage is not critical but important to note if this is important to you. The case is sturdy but I do feel some flex. So far, no negative effects of this have been noticed.
I use a USB to HDMI adapter and hooking this up to my two monitors went smoothly. For my use the processer and video performance of my animated work (both rendering and playback) looks and runs great. I will say that that the upgrading the memory might be on your mind as I think that will be a major upgrade especially for gaming situations.
The nephew was very happy playing fortnight and reported that I should leave him alone and let him play without interruption which to me is just about the best endorsement I can think of.
I think this should be in your consideration if you want a powerful portable gaming computer.

This is my second laptop for my newphew. Its heavy but sturdy. Looks really good. 8GB is not enough for anything this laptop should do. Upgrade to atleast 16GB and you have a solid machine. Use it to live mobile gaming and it does the job perfectly.

The packaging for this gaming laptop is incredibly simple and compact. There's gaps between the laptop and the box as protection, but pulling everything out was very easy to do.
The power brick for this gaming laptop is much bigger than your typical laptop, but the wattage it's built for is a good enough reason. The back end of the machine is built a little different, primarily for a better cooling system, but it takes some time to get used to it. It also has the power cord connection on the back of the laptop, which is no longer normal. You cannot put it right up against a wall, which is probably done on purpose for cooling efficiency.
I was able to get through the Windows setup quickly. I was a little bummed that it doesn't have facial recognition, but setting up a PIN to get into Windows quickly isn't too difficult.
The laptop fan(s) can get a little loud when gaming or encoding video, but if you're playing using headphones like I do, it wont bother you in the slightest. Windows is snappy on this thing and the resolution/refresh rate is much better than what I'm used to. Everything seems to move much more smoothly.

Shipped with Windows 11, which I've found to be a better GUI than 10. As with all Windows systems, setting up and updates take up the 1st hour or so. Once that's out of the way, it's time to see what's under the hood.
Got this with a 2 fold purpose, one to see if the gaming could meet my minimal demands, and two because added numbers keypad is something I could use if I'm working while traveling. The design and fabrication are a little clunky, but it does feel pretty sturdy. The speckled gray finish kind of makes me think it would be better suited for a desktop computer. The orange tinted keyboard backlight is a new touch. Setting up the GE Force graphics gaming card was an endless series of questions to set up an account with Nvidia, which I really opposed. Onward to the gaming experiment.
As I mentioned, my husband and I have minimal needs, we play only about 5-10 hours a month on our X Box S system, it's really more for our kids. One extremely disappointing feature was not being able to pair both of our wireless controllers, although my husband followed every online tutorial he could find. It just wasn't happening for him. End result, I don't believe that all the hyped tech specs with Nvidia and AMD Ryzen 5 processor really matter. 8 GB of memory might have been enough, we just didn't have the interest to pursue this as a gaming laptop anymore.

Affordable beauty of a laptop

Finding an affordable gaming laptop can be a tall task, as the high-end models may be out of reach for casual gamers looking to save money. Dell offers a great solution with its G15 series. While it doesn't have the spectacle and fireworks of its more expensive contemporaries, the G15 provides a solid alternative for gamers on a budget.
Out of the box, the G15 5525 is a thing of beauty. The body showcases several points of articulation, from its speckled light gray color and its textured outer shell, to its bright red back-lit keyboard and the cross-hatch speaker pattern inside. It is weighty but not too heavy - probably on the top end of portability but still functional. The screen brightness is acceptable with decent viewing angles, good contrast ratio, and it folds out to around 120 degrees.
Performance on the G15 5525 series will vary depending on what you're doing and the games you want to run. The G15 5525 comes with Windows 11 Home, and setup takes only minutes. Browsing the web is fast and the Windows dashboard is smooth. Battery life is pretty decent as well. While it is capable of handling most games, the system comes with only 8GB of memory out of the box which is just low by today's standards. However, fiddling around with the power plan and graphics settings for a few minutes will do you a lot of good and save you some headaches as this laptop has plenty of juice to get your game on. Aside from a lot of the bloat-ware preloaded into this machine, it is a great device.
Overall, the G15 5525 is an affordable alternative to some of the high-end laptops out there. It is a great option for students or on-the-go workers who want some casual gaming access on a decent machine. While not the most powerful device, it's a beauty of a laptop that's not just eye candy.

Really struggled with this one when i first got it - The wifi was Sooo SLOW!
upgraded the drivers and still running slow. Used Dells website to autodetect and run all updates - this included wifi/bluetooth/bios and a few others. After finally getting that all sorted. The laptop was wonderful to use.
This is a mid grade laptop that punches all the checkboxes. I was able to use it for both work and gaming. Workwise it handled everything i threw at it well. Nice speed, wasn't loud, nice smooth font display on the screen. Easy to look at.
For gaming, we loaded up some Hades and Rocket league. nice smooth motion with the 120Hz screen refresh - these high paced games looked really nice! Didnt miss a beat.
I really like the idea of a full keyboard with number pad for work. But i kept misplacing my hands and the keys were just on the small side for my hands. To be fair, I am 6'3" so i have a bit larger hands. So it was a factor. I am glad they offset the touchpad for this. Or i might have thrown it out the window!
Overall, nice setup for the cost. Handled most chores i threw at it!

When the laptop actually turns on it runs very well but that is the greatest issue. The battery life off the charger is barely an hour. Also, mine has been consistently not turning on. I leave it attached to the charger at night, with the screen closed, and next morning it is completely dead. Now, after only 3 months it is completely dead again but won't turn back on. I don't know if it's a computer issue or cable issue but I'm really tired of this thing.

Dear StevenB, We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review of your Dell G15 Gaming Laptop. We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue with your battery life and your device not powering on. That is not the type of feedback we like to hear from our customers, or the type of product Dell intends to deliver. Below I have provided troubleshooting steps to help with the performance of your battery and a link to help with no power issue. Here are the steps to help improve the battery performance of your laptop: 1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon. 2. On the options list, click Power Options. 3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built-in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.
a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver. b) If running Cortana, type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results. Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs. c) Turn the Battery Saver On or Off. d) Additional settings are available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links. e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage. f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further the Battery Saver feature.

This laptop is the first Dell that I've had in my hands for quite some time, and they have definitely weathered the reduction in PC manufacturers and the pandemic with flying colors. This G15 fits what I understood their gaming series to consist of, which are mostly business laptops with upgraded components. This one in particular is strangled by only have 8gb of RAM, which isn't enough in 2022 and running windows 11, unfortunately. The build is solid business fare, but clocking in a little on the chunky side for thickness and weight. The added red backlit keys are nice, but somehow only serve to make this laptop look more like something you brought home from work. Full disclosure, I had no idea I was so hung up on the appearance of gaming laptops until I started using this one. Even the marbled light colored plastic with red accents struck me as a little off. One advantage the chunkiness does bring is room for cooling, and that's apparent in the placement of the rear exhaust grills, that take up a fair amount of space where I would have expected more connectivity on the sides. In fact, this brings me to the next thing that causes me so much concern on this laptop - the number of ports that stick straight off the back of this laptop. In most of my desk, temporary desk, or other setups, I don't like having cables that plug into the rear of the laptop and then stick STRAIGHT out to the rear. Unfortunately this includes the single USB-C slot and the HDMI and Power connections. There are 2 USB-A ports on the side, which is appreciated, but having all those ports through the rear of the chunky case is a major annoyance. Graphics performance is admirable with the Nvidia RTX3050 mobile, and while the SSD is on the small side at 0.5 TB, it's still plenty fast enough to keep up with loading games, audio, and cut scenes to be appreciated. The 8gb of RAM still makes this unit fall down however, and I feel it any time the fans start to spin faster.

New And NOT Improved

Dell is here to remind us all, once again, that calling something a "Gaming Laptop" doesn't make something a gaming laptop. More specifically, it looks like they are offering a reduced specification clone of their G15 release from a year ago (which is still available and is less expensive). Both laptops are solid and attractive and well-suited for most power users out there but this new model has a mid-grade AMD Ryzen 5 series processor which offers less exceptional performance than last year's release with the more responsive Ryzen 7 processor. Both machines still stand in the shadow of the amazing older Dell G7 17 gaming laptop (no longer available).
This new model still has 8 gigabytes system memory and 4 gigabytes of video memory; both models sport the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 card but this new model is not the somewhat preferable 3050 Ti released last year.
So, overall, this is identical to what they released last year but with a slightly less impressive processor. But the price of its predecessor has dropped to well below the new release price here.
Calling this a gaming laptop is a stretch, but it's a well-functioning and desirable laptop. Stellar Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, great sound, rock-solid construction. It's an enjoyable computer to use as a laptop in every way as long as you aren't planning to rely on it for truly taxing program or video processing. Unfortunately, I think its price might be a little aggressive for its capabilities.
Hard to recommend this when the 2021 version is still around with clearly better performance for hundreds less.

Lightweight, Great Graphics on a large screen

Nice 15" screen and yet the laptop is not that heavy. For the size you would expect to be heavier, glad it isn't. The keyboard is backlit and the color is red. Took about 2 minutes to get used to it. Turns out red light is better for your eyes. There is a full size number pad built in, nice! An Nvidia graphics card does not disappoint. The graphics are like being there ... where ever that video is you are watching. Getting started was easy, just plug it in and turn it on. Runs through a few setup screens, country, language. Then it goes to the Microsoft account login. Interesting, no option to skip, you must have an login to a Microsoft account. You knew it wouldn't be long before it was mandatory! I skipped the free trial of Microsoft 365 because it isn't really free. A credit card is required and will be charged when the "free" trial is over. No thank you! The laptop itself is a light grey with speckles. Wasn't too sure about that when I unpacked it. After a few days I don't even notice it.
