This is my second time having to return this laptop.. I have had 3 so far this year just because of problems with the dell computer and the Geek squad. I was sadly informed when I brought this last one in to get looked at that this computer was known for breaking. Very dissatisfied.

Well don`t want to do a one star but no choice. The Ryzen 7 with the Nvidia card did not jive. Could not get the GPU to recognize or work at all. Did Benchmark on it never showed the Nvidia 3050ti. Geek squad couldn't figure it out and Del never got back to me. So I returned it for a refund.

Product is missing the charger: I ordered the open-box excellent grade product which includes charger, but when I picked it up it is missing the charger. Huge fan noise: it's like a jet-engine. But I guess this is normal for gaming laptop?

I have provided some steps you can take that should help with this issue.
There are several ways to help improve the performance of your computer if it is running slower than you expected it to. We'd recommend the following steps to help improve your computer's overall performance and speed:

      1. Restart your computer regularly.
      2. Run the automated tools provided in the SupportAssist Tool.
      3. Run a complete hardware diagnostic test.
      4. Scan your computer for malware.
      5. Restore your Dell computer using Windows System Restore.
      6. Reinstall Microsoft Windows.

You can read the full steps associated with each of these recommendations here: https://dell.to/3n29QjE.

    Impressive eSports Laptop

The Dell G15 Ryzen 7 + RTX 3050 Ti + 120 Hz display combo makes for an awesome laptop for eSports games like Valorant or Overwatch. The RTX 3050 Ti is a bit controversial in that it only has 4GB of RAM. What I've found is that this limitation just doesn't matter if you are gaming in most modern games at 1080p - especially with silky smooth competitive games like Overwatch. More graphically intense games do take a hit, but the addition of DLSS (now that the 3050 is an RTX card and not a '16' series GTX card) means you can get a lot more bang for your buck with AAA titles like Battlefield or even Cyberpunk 2077. I found with Cyberpunk that the 3050 Ti was able to use DLSS to great effect, offering super smooth gameplay even with Ultra settings at 1080p. Unfortunately, raytracing was basically unplayable even with settings turned way down. You can certainly enable it to get a feel for how good the game can look, you just won't want to actually play with that setting enabled. Still, for what is just a slight step up from entry level, the RTX 3050 Ti does a really good job. And it truly shines in Overwatch and Valorant. In both games, I was able to maintain a solid 100+ FPS at 1080p and Ultra settings, making full use of the 120 Hz 1080p display on the G15. The design of the G15 had me a little knotted up. On the one hand, I really like the finish/pattern of the keyboard deck plastic on the G15 - it's got a really cool almost countertop esque pattern to it. The casing is all plastic but it feels solid and not cheap at all. Likewise, the cooling design of the laptop leaves me no doubt that it can handle the TDP of this CPU and GPU combo - even closed and connected to a display I haven't noticed any issues with thermal throttling affecting my FPS. However, while the refresh rate and response time for the 15" 120hz screen are really, really good, the backlight consistency is noticeably worse than another 15" laptop I've reviewed recently (albeit, a higher priced one). I certainly wouldn't expect an ultra premium display at this price point, but I was still disappointed to see noticeable backlight bleeding at the edges and corners of the G15's screen. Also on the design front, I really wish the G15 supported USB-C PD on the USB port so that I could use my work laptop's charger in a pinch. Not having to lug the huge 180W Dell adapter in my carry on would have been nice when traveling. Still, that's not uncommon for a gaming laptop so it is what it is. The only reason I can't give this laptop 5 stars is the pre-installed Dell bloatware. Since this is a Dell laptop, you get the nagware for registering with Dell for support options, and nags to renew your (only 30 days????) subscription to McAfee, and multiple 'command center' type apps from Dell. that's right - you have to deal with having both a Dell command center esque app as well as the Alienware Fusion app which actually controls the power/fan settings for gaming. It just seems really unnecessary. Also, the McAfee suite that's installed is an appx package, so removing it on one profile doesn't stop it from getting installed for a family member who logs into your laptop later. You have to use powershell to remove the app permanently from your provisioned apps. It's just a silly thing to do. Dell could do a lot better. If it weren't for all the extra bloatware, this would be a 5 star product at this price point with these features. So close...

Gorgeous Laptop - Not For All Gamers

It is difficult to figure out what Dell was going for with this laptop. My best guess is that they are going for a reduced specification (and cheaper) version of their gorgeous and well-received Dell G7 I7 gaming computer. This laptop is smaller (15.6" screen vs. a 17.3" screen) and less heavy (5.4 lbs. vs. 6.6 lbs. - still heavy). System RAM is smaller (8 gigabytes vs. 16 gigabytes) and video RAM is smaller (4 gigabytes vs. 8 gigabytes). And the processor here is a Ryzen 7 5000 series (vs. an Intel Core i7 series....but that's fine with me). Finally, the display here refreshes at 120 Hz vs. the (possibly excessive) 300 Hz rate of it's larger sibling. Both systems come with with a 512 gigabyte solid state drive. This is a gorgeous computer that would be well-suited for most power users out there. The Ryzen processor is incredibly fast and the computer feels very responsive. It is well-cooled and runs very cool even when taxing the components (the cooling fans really do their job well and are not too distractingly loud). The sound is very good and surprisingly loud for laptop sound - headphone sound is excellent. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity are easily better on this laptop than on any other computer I own - truly stellar performance. Ports are about what you would expect: 1 ethernet, 1 HDMI, 3 USB, and 1 USB-C. There are three limitations here, though, that make this potentially questionable for gamers: (1) system memory of 8 gigabytes is asking for trouble, (2) the graphics card is is woefully inadequate for some power-users, & (3) the video refresh rate is probably bottom-tier for new releases (especially for a laptop marketed as a gaming computer). For most home and office power-users, this is very desirable and well-functioning laptop. It is attractive and very sturdy and responds as fast as lightening. And I find the system performs magnificently with even heavy-duty editing in Adobe. This is a gorgeous laptop. But I think it's a stretch to market this as a gaming laptop - the RAM can be expanded (but shouldn't need to be) - the video card is fixed (the first is a limitation by Dell, the second is a limitation by NVIDIA). The display refresh rate shouldn't be a deal-breaker here, but I think that any serious gaming laptop should be competing at a higher level. Perhaps this would be more appropriately called a powerful laptop suitable for enjoyable mid-range gaming. Ultimately you should always look for a laptop (or desktop) that is dressed for the games you want....not for the games you have. And remember that games will grow MORE demanding, not LESS demanding. I love this laptop and find it very satisfying to use, but it won't serve as a portable version of my gaming desktop.

Excellent Entry level gaming and better for video

So DELL has again targeted “gaming laptop” enterprises… well they have done a commendable job at the price point with the G15 - 15.6" FHD Gaming Laptop. While it is not top tier for what you may want for intensive gamers, it fits the bill for beginner and casual gamers. Out of the box the G15 feels like a hardy machine well built to last. It feels heavy compared to other laptops on the market weighing in at about 5.5 pounds. It has a speckled old school gray scale appearance that would maybe appeal to the Nintendo enthusiasts. All essential ports are present: 2 USB 2.0 ports at right side, headphone/aux 3.5mm jack and ethernet port at left side, power, HDMI, and USB C ports at the rear. The touchpad is a little small and blends in well with the palm rests. It does however function very well with responsiveness and accuracy. The full-size keyboard (for laptop sakes) feels and looks nice with the red/orange or hot coral backlit keys. They keys do not feel mechanical but do have a good quality feedback and texture when pressed. There is also a numpad included. Setup was the usual power up, sign in, and wait for all the updates. The updates did take longer than usual and I did have one glitch where the laptop had to be powered off to restart the updates. The screen was an immediate breathe of fresh air with the 1080 resolution at 120hz. I like to always start with streaming and video/photo edits to see the full range of the screen. This 15.6” FHD screen is very crisp and runs extremely smooth. The small bezel of the screen is great and looks very nice. The sound card and speakers are okay. They get the job done but don’t expect any cinema or surround sound with any full spectrum. Most people will be using an aux or Bluetooth speaker for which this laptop is setup for nicely. The G15 laptop comes with a very capable and fast AMD Ryzen 7 graphics card great for video and photo editing - 8GB Memory – and a very respectable NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti GPU that can play almost any game at low to medium settings but is on the low end with 4GB VRAM. The included internals of this machine appears that it was developed for the budget minded gamer or consumer in minds with the very limited memory of the 512GB SSD, 8GB Ram, 4GB VRAM. There is however an extra slot to add another 8GB of RAM to get to a minimum to play some of the higher rpm games. I tested with a couple of games (DOOM 2016, RDR 2, and Elders Scroll Skyrim) and didn’t have much space for anything else. I did get warnings about not having enough required RAM to run RDR 2 however I was able to play at low to medium settings and was getting an average of 55 – 65fps. Playing DOOM I was getting 100 – 120fps. You can play at the higher settings but the GPU does throttle down power consumption and graphics to run the game at optimal standards which are still enjoyable for the casual gamer. All the games were very smooth and I didn’t have any glitches while playing. The colors and resolution were respectable and presented extremely clear with the 1080 120hz screen. The included 120 watt power block was a nice surprise for this laptop and is much needed for the intended gaming this is developed for. The thermal protection was very good with the internal fans and 3050TI so I was able to play comfortably for extended periods without being overwhelmed by fan noise or warmth. I did unplug the power block to test portability and was only able to get about 1.5 hours of hard gaming on battery. With just everyday web browsing, streaming, or editing, I was able to push the battery life to about 3 -4 hours. This G15 is good for gaming, but with the included processor and graphics card, this thing is great for video and photo editing. It is super-fast in basic functions and is able to accomplish a lot when working with video. I primarily use Adobe Elements combined with GoPRO software and I was able to create some amazing videos for the family and friends. The screen alone is an awesome job by DELL with this laptop and for the price, you can’t really go wrong for this caliber of machine for gaming, creating, and school/home office. Overall, I am very pleased with what DELL was able to do with this G15 laptop even though I do feel they could’ve upped the ante with more RAM across the board for the price.

I like the look, number of ports, and fast speed of the Dell G15 Ryzen Edition! It's a great gaming laptop with a cool looking design! Design It's not a small laptop but I love the look of it and the design. The case is light grey with blue speckles randomly in it. The keyboard feels great to type on and it has a numeric keypad. I also like the way it turns on when I lift the screen up from a closed position. Gaming The Dell G15 Ryzen ran games very well! I thought the 120Hz display was more of a marketing thing but I was surprised. I have a number of games that actually detected and apparently used the 120Hz refresh rate! The motion is butter smooth! While a high framerate is needed for smooth motion if you have that, and this does, then a high screen refresh is really needed. It wasn't just the motion that was smooth, textures looked smooth and rich with some great lighting effects too! There's one game I play, a type of sport game, that I wasn't very good at on my other computer that doesn't have discrete graphics. On this computer, not only does it look much better but because the graphics are fast and smooth I'm playing much better in it now! I know with 8GB of RAM and 4GB of video RAM it's not the most loaded gaming laptop but it really handled what I threw at it very well! I didn't even think to check the graphic settings in all my games because they looked great and ran fast from the start. I'm guessing I can turn of them up higher, if not to their highest settings. I did change the graphics settings in some games and was very impressed with the results. The game was still fast and smooth but everything just looked better!!! The GeForce RTX 3050 TI really did nicely! I don't know how much these games use the CPU but having 16 logical processors probably doesn't hurt either!!! The AMD Ryzen 7 5800H sure gets the job done!!! Sound The sound on this laptop is also very good! I'm not sure how to describe it other than it sounds fuller and richer on here than other laptops. I feel like it throws sound well, being more immersive and helping me hear where other players are around me and where sounds are coming from. Ports This laptop has a good amount of ports: - USB C 3.2 Gen 2 which can also be used as a Display Port - HDMI - USB 3.2 Gen 1 type A - USB 3.2 Gen 1 type A - USB 3.2 Gen 1 type A with PowerShare (charge your phone here) - Port for the A/C power - Headphone jack - And an RJ-45 I love having lots of ports! Not only that but they're good! One especially for charging, the three Gen 1 do 5Gbps and the USB C does 10Gbps. The RJ-45 is really a bonus. Sometimes I want it for configuring other devices and sometimes I just want the most reliable lowest latency and fastest connection possible. With that RJ-45 and the numeric keypad this would be an ideal choice for remote work. Speed I know I talked about speed in gaming but I work with a lot of computers in my job and this has fast storage! Installing large Windows updates and large games is a breeze. I'm very happy with the overall performance of the system! Battery life This is a tough one because it depends so much on what you're doing and how bright you have the screen. Anyway, from my use it seems that if the brightness is down below half and you're doing web browsing, typing, or other non-gaming things, you should be able to get between 8-10 hours on this. That impressed me for a gaming laptop! It can really be used for serious work, especially with the numeric keypad and the RJ-45!

The Dell G15 with a 15.6" FHD screen is a very competent gaming laptop. Packed with the AMD Ryzen 7 and 8GB Memory paired with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Graphics card and a smallish 512GB SSD is all you need to start off gaming at a higher than beginner level. Form and function wrapped up into one with a few quirks makes for an experience worth the money even not on sale. The form of this laptop is amazing in my eyes, looking like a set of Reebok's from the future in the movie Back to the Future. The grey and speckled looked has a futuristic but retro feel, weird to explain but the killed it. Keys feel great as well with a nice positive feel under your fingertips. Also, one huge plus over another gaming laptop I just received was the Dell has a Number pad, that is a HUGE plus for me. The Function of it all comes together with all the above features powered by the "underdog" AMD Ryzen 7 chip. The computer never misses a beat on multiple games I tried and the 8GB of memory is never maxed but definitely could have used 16GB to get even more room for games that need it. The Nvidia GTX works great paired with the G15's 15.6" 120hz screen. Gaming is smooth and colors are delightful and do not bleed like I honestly expected due to the last generation G15s had color bleeding. I do have to bring up the 2 reasons for the 4 out of 5 stars. First, the computer froze 2 times during initial setup, the other computer did not. This did not make for a great start to my trying of this setup. Secondly, the FAN NOISE is annoying and obsurdly loud and it is not just loud all the time, it is a vibrating clicking noise, you have to wear headphones to drown it out. You may say this may be isolated to my unit but I know it is not once I did some research. My 2019 G15 is not loud at all, they changed something in this setup. If you want a respectable laptop for the price range it is in, do not shy away, but check for fan noise immediately upon purchase to make sure you can handle it.

The packaging was simple to open up and get started with. After the initial setup of Windows, I was able to download a few games and get started pretty quickly. While it's not the best experience I've had gaming, it is the best I've had on a laptop. Very smooth motion and quick loading with the SSD. In the off time, I like to mine cryptos... this graphics card is a little restrictive with only 4GB of ram, so no ETH, but works well with ETC or NiceHash (BTC). It certainly isn't the best Hashrate, but it is somewhat profitable. I like the fact that the power connector and a few ports are accessible from the back of the laptop. I don't see that very often. There are some ports available on the sides once it's set up and running, though.
