People talking about the heat and noise obviously never had a gaming laptop before...they are always loud. What do you expect? Haha

You can also run the Windows Performance Troubleshooter to see if it will help improve your computer's performance:
1. Close all open windows.
2. Press the Windows logo key + X key on the keyboard.
3. Click Control Panel.
4. Click System and Security.
5. Under Security and Maintenance, select Troubleshoot common problems.
6. Under System and Security, click Run maintenance tasks.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions and prompts to complete the process.
8. Restart the PC.

Great laptop for price

I upgraded from an old HP Pavilion that I used for 8yrs. I wanted a laptop I could use for atleast 5yrs and came across this one. For the price and the spec's it was perfect. Been using it for gaming and video editing. The combo of the i7, ssd, and ram make this machine extremely quick. Solid buy for a laptop under $1000.

We found that the laptop gets quite hot if you're using it for anything moderately intense. The fan is also quite loud. We've also had a problem with the laptop blue-screening with a "Video Scheduler Error" code while using it for skype/zoom calls. It has been ok in most regards, but we spent significantly more for this laptop than for previous ones, and we had hoped for a more positive experience.

We are sorry to hear about the issues that you've outlined in your review. We'd recommend seeing if there is an update for the BIOS on your computer to help with the fan noise:
An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.

If your computer continues to operate too hot for you we'd recommend checking out the thermal profiles in the Alienware Control Center on your computer. You can select the thermal profile that is the best fit for your computer needs. Lastly, if you'd like to diagnose future Blue Screen Errors you can follow these steps:
1. At the desktop, click the Search the web and Windows box and type "problem reports".
2. Select View all problem reports to view a list of errors that have occurred on your computer and possible solutions for them, such as updating drivers, flashing your system BIOS, or checking for updates to the software.
3. Under the Source column, look for Windows and under Summary, look for Shut down unexpectedly.
4. Right-click the line item and select Check for a solution.

Getting help from the swamped phone center during the quarantine didn't work so I'll just wait until the store is open again. I hope the salesman is still there because he was good and knowledgeable. I'm sure my ratings will be much higher when I finally figure out this computer.

This is identified as a Gaming Laptop but it fit my needs as a technical person for developing scientific programs and writing papers. Only negative is that it came with Windows 10 Home. It should have had Windows 10 Professional.
