For gaming on the go this machine does it well. As a regular laptop it’s a little heavier than most, but you get it for what it can do for gaming, not running Office. It does run Office and web browser well though. Being a full-size laptop, it has USB 3, USB-C 3.2, HDMI, full SD, headphones, and Ethernet ports. It has Wi-fi 6, AX, built in and I got 1.2GB connections and good throughput on files. Software bloat is minimal with just McAfee to remove, and it comes off with no issues (all three programs). The Dell/Alienware software is for the laptop and doesn’t take up much space. It allows for upgrades, Dell specific, and changing the gaming profiles. You can also change the lighting in zones or all together for the keyboard. The USB-C port is not for charging unfortunately. The only way to charge is with the OEM brick power supply provided, or some other device that has the same power tip. The screen is a single hinge and comes up to reveal the camera and two microphones. The screen is a good display. Colors and blacks are good. Response time in games is great. The handoff to the discrete GPU is seamless. The Alienware software makes it easy to change preset performance settings, or go custom. You can have your options globally, or for specific games. The software is easy to use, and provides a lot of options. You still have plenty of room on the 512GB SDD, but you won’t have the space to keep old games around forever on it. You can use the HDMI port to show your screen on another display. On the screen and for 1080p games, the laptop is great. I tested Doom and Doom eternal. Both had FPS of 100+ with no issues with the laptop plugged in and all settings on ultra. Just the fans blowing more and louder. At full tilt it is not quiet, but that’s expected. It handled other less intensive games like Football or Unity games with no issues. It was smooth in both Doom games no matter what was going on the screen, lowest momentary dip was to the high 80 or low 90s for FPS. However, just unplugging on default setting plunged the games to 20 FPS. Upping the performance for on battery use at the sake of battery life brought the FPS back to a playable 40 FPS or higher (still all ultra-settings). But then the battery expected life dropped to an hour indicated. At the rate battery decreased I doubt it would have made an hour. Plugged in your can play all the time on high, on battery, either lower your settings, or don’t expect to play as long of course. I used a Logitech wireless mouse and response was fine. The built-in speakers are good for a laptop, but headphones where better and block out the fan noise. You can use the HDMI port to show on other screens. Plugged in, this machine dominates games at 1080p. For business or web browsing, it has all of the connections you could want to get connected and get things done. The 8GB of RAM was enough for all of the laptops needs. The discrete GPU takes care of games with no problems. For a laptop it’s size, it’s heavier and louder, but that is expected since it is a gaming laptop and not drawback, it’s a known. For the cost it’s a good deal for gaming on the go.

This laptop has been a workhorse - can run 24/7 under heavy load and without failure. The processor and GPU are top of the line. The screen is high end but I haven't used it that much. Much better quality than the Ryzen 5 model and also sometimes cheaper if you get it open box.

Good computer being used by collage kid to do his work

I bought it based on good specs. I returned it after it shut off twice due to overheating while playing COD. It's also worth noting that Dell already discontinued this and is no longer producing an AMD-based G5.

Every DELL I've purchased in the last 2 years has issues including this BRAND NEW one. The issue with this one, apart from the dollar store cheapo looks, was the screen flickering when the laptop started drawing more power. It would flicker under stress tests and games. It's annoying and according to DELL it's normal. The battery health of this BRAND NEW machine was 84%! YES, brand new machine with the battery life already 16% degraded. Dell can take this laptop and shove it! I'm glad Best Buys return policy saved me from yet another lemon from DELL.

Bought this gaming laptop for my grandson for school (and his gaming). He loves it and therefore so do I. Salesperson at BestBuy was great in steering us to it when our first choice wasn't in stock. Turns out our second choice was the better value.

It's okay. When we bought it the screen was messed up. The screen is flimsy. Not only that, it has 2 GPUs, and Minecraft doesn't like using it, so I cannot record the game. Very unfortunate, because this was a gift for my girlfriend

I would have liked to a given a better review, except for the fact that it lags is very slow I wasn't impressed by what it was designed for. It's a gaming pc and it can't even play angry birds without it freezing up.

I bought this for my grandson, 11 years old. It has been easy for him to use and game on. Good quality, aluminum and plastic but should not break if dropped. Very happy with this purchase and the help I received from Best Buy staff to make an informed decision.

Worried about exhaust venting to bottom of screen.

The backlight didn't work when I first got it. I had to look up several online articles to troubleshoot this issue. After messing with it for hours, I got the backlight working, but it doesn't stay on constantly and it doesn't change to any other color but a teal blue. Also, during online gaming, I've had it randomly say there was an internal error and it had to restart. Beyond frustrating when playing a game like League. The issue has happened twice and I haven't had the computer very long. I'm kinda sad I spent as much money as I did on this computer.

I purchased this as an upgrade to our very tired laptop. Our old one had become very slow when it came to loading. This laptop has been very much worth upgrading. Fast loading and the option to game. Great all-around laptop!

AMD based gaming computer with great quality and great handling of demanding games such as the AAA titles. Nice backlit keyboard from AlienWare components with a nice 15.6" 144 Hz screen to compliment it as well, a great computer overall.

Would be a hell of a lot more if it didn’t fall short. The design is phenomenal! The build quality is everything you want in a laptop. The ease of disassembly is incredibly welcome. The only problem is the software/hardware was garbage. Lag when opening programs (8GB RAM and an SSD, it should not be lagging). Some of the updates would not install due to some bug in the software. Graphics glitched, Call of Duty crashed, I updated the drivers to no avail. Dell was almost there, but almost only counts in hand grenades and horseshoes

My old laptop was right years old. I purchased one from my place of work and it just didn't fit the bill. So I needed to purchase a bigger machine. This one is fantastic. It works for the one game I need to play and is fast as can be.
