Overheats and shuts off randomly. I wouldn't recommend this laptop to anyone. My son uses it to pay games. Not worth it.

Was not satisfied with this laptop. Started overheating to the point I could not touch the keyboard. Maybe I had a lemon but this put a bad taste in my mouth.

When I first got this laptop and try running PUBG, it has extremely low fps and instantly heat up to be unplayable. After installing the latest BIOS and drives, also going into Alienware Command and set the default to "Thermal Cool", it's able to run everything in ultra without any issue; fan noise stays ok and CPU/GPU stays around 70-85 degree C. A powerful laptop that just needs cooling oriented firmware and settings.

Great Resolution but poor gamming experience.

Great resolution but provides for a poor gamming experience. Computer gets really hot by monitor. Kind of heavy and charger is way to big. My biggest compliant is that when playing fortnite at 4K I get only 30 frames. The game looks amazing, but 30 frames is not enjoyable. At 1080, I was getting around 100 frames. Which is fun, but I feel like this computer is advertised as 4k and 144. I thought the specs of gpu and i7 would allow for a better experience. I'm feeling really let down.

      Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry to hear you are experienicng issues with the heat of this PC. Below I have provided steps and a few links that should resolve this issue you are experiencing.

      1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
      2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
      3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
      4. Use compressed air to clean the vents regularly.
      5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
      6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.
You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2uJ8AdG

      Overheating:
1.Flashing the system BIOS to the latest version on the computer can help resolve the issue. The Dell BIOS is responsible for managing fan speeds related to dynamic cooling and the performance of the system. To download and install the latest BIOS:
2 . Browse to the Dell Drivers & Downloads page:
      3. Support Site Drivers Page
4 . Ensure that you have the correct System Typeset
5 . Select the Operating System
      6. Under Category, select BIOS
      7. Locate the latest System BIOS
      8. Click Download and save the file to your computer
      9. Open File Explorer and browse to the location where the downloaded file is saved
      10. Double-click the BIOS setup file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process

Bought this gaming laptop as my first ever gaming computer. The graphics are breathtaking, the sound is amazing, the lights are awesome and I love how customizable they are. My only issue is when gaming, the laptop overheats to the point where the top of the keyboard is too hot to touch. Buying a cooling pad to help our but it doesn't make me love this laptop any less!

    Great value once updated

Purchased excellent open box, ran all updates and ran dell command updates to install all the specific software for this model. The build quality is definitely an upgrade over the previous g7. Ran Cyberpunk and borderlands 3 for about 4 to 5 hours on high nearly max on both games. Max temp on gpu and cpu hovered around 65c to 67c No cooling fan, laptop sitting on a table, plugged into power. This is after running all updates and bios updates. Cpu stayed consistent at 2.6ghz and gpu was hovering around 1390-1700mhz while plugged in 99% utilization. No thermal throttling and being a thin, metal body it’s fairly hot to the touch but nothing that would cause damage. Seems to be plagued with the dell hate of overheating. tbh this was a great deal and in my time that I’ve had it it’s not going past those temps. Display is gorgeous and this is perfect for gaming, not competitive gaming. wouldn't mind a high refresh rate. But I would rather take the OLED display. Hopefully high refresh rate OLED will be a thing soon enough on laptops.
