Bluetooth and HEOS is a pain
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bluetooth and HEOS will randomly work or not work. I have a lot of issues with their software. Phone apps are very out of date. I wish I went with a different brand.

Only worked for a year
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing was great when it worked, After about a year of use it stopped outputting sound. Because it is integrated for web / screen use I do not recommend for a standalone music system. For reference a refurbished pioneer receiver from the 70's has worked longer and was half the price. I hope to be able to resurrect as this was such an expensive unit...

ABOUT WHAT YOU WOULD EXPECT FOR THE PRICE
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This receiver has lots of features if you can figure out how to access them. I've had Sony and Onkyo AV receivers I the past, but this Denon is the first I've ever had that did not have a menu button. It is like looking for a needle in a haystack to find the settings you want to adjust. Sound quality from CD player is below par when using analog input. Volume levels seem to be extremely low when using HDMI inputs considering it's supposed to be 145 watts per channel.

Denon lacking quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, I would like to say I have been dealing with surround sound receivers for 24 years. This unit from Denon was purchased to replace a Sony STRDH550 that was hit by lightning. We have owned it for a couple months now. I was shocked to find that the remote was what you would expect to get with a budget wal-mart tv. Feels like your holding nothing and lacks functionality. The remote is as cheap as it gets for a receiver costing almost $550. Now, sound quality is good. Great surround sound, nice frequency response. However, this receiver was rated at 20 watts per channel higher than our previous receiver, but falls short on volume. It was out performed in sheer power by a $250 Sony Walmart receiver. If it weren't for wifi and Bluetooth options, I would've taken this one back for the cheaper Sony. One last thing, occasionally the receiver stops getting audio from hdmi ports. The only way to get it working again is to disconnect power for a few seconds. Not the quality I expected from Denon. And definitely not what I should have gotten in the price range.

Poor longevity
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The only reason I gave this productive two stars instead of one was because while it was working it was a very good product. I bought a Denon receiver bundle just over 3 years ago to replace an aging Kenwood system I had. Set up was easy and I was very happy with it. After having it for a year and a half I began to travel and it sat being used only once every three months for just over a year. So not over used at all. But I did use it, it was cleaned and good maintenance was performed! Now after having it for three years I have had three speaker channels short circuit and blow, costing 120$ a pop to fix. I am now refusing to fix the third and will be looking for a new receiver. The technician at the repair shop admitted they see a LOT of Denon products in their shop to be repaired!! Stay away from this brand if you want any kind of longevity out of your product!! If you DO buy one I can't recommend enough the longest extended warranty possible!

Disappointing
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this especially for the Denon brand name. It gave me trouble within a few months. A missing center channel problem by narrowing down finally to this Unit.

HDMI ports all failed
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had it 4 months and 1 hdmi port failed. Thought no biggie will just use the others, fast forward 1 year and they all are out. You think Denon would make a better product.

Lasted 17 days----no power on
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.1st one lasted 17 days before it would not power up. Couldn’t pop the cover (warranty would have been voided) but a flashlight thru the grill appeared to show the fuse was still intact. Was using a surge protected power strip with 2 other components and they’re fine. While it ran, here are some thoughts - Setup assistant pretty straightforward. Sends a tone to each speaker to verify connection. One bug; the setup menu occasionally appeared on its own at startup, approx. 2/3 of the way through as if it was never completed. But it was, numerous times. - CEC/HDMI video worked just fine with my Samsung and Dish equipment, which isn’t always the case. In order to get a seamless startup, however, I had to go into the Denon setup menu and turn off its “smart menu” or else it defaulted to that---- On air TV audio was not seamless with my Samsung U8500, see below - In the welcome to the 21st century list: o Unit has no switched AC outlets. Demon’s not alone on this, but why? Certainly would be nice to be able to slave subwoofer power to the main unit. Yea, there are auto switching power switches, buy why regress? o Unit only comes with a quick start guide, the entire 150 page plus detailed user’s guide is a download. Would be nice to have a hard copy provided-----hard to read detailed instruction on a phone screen and you will have to refer to them often, like to set the receiver to operate with something other than 8 ohm speakers. - Firmware download appeared to work, took 20 minutes on a wired Ethernet connection. Didn’t fix all the issues noted above. - Speaker terminal lugs have center screws; using 16 gauge wire was a bit of effort, anything bigger (14 etc.) might not be possible. - Denon remote has an info button, which shows the status of both the input and output signal (i.e., if the source signal is stereo, 5.1, 7.2 etc.…) Does not appear to be active when using an optical cable from TV. Maybe this is unique to late model Samsung TVs where only a PCM signal is sent via the HDMI cable; have to use an optical connection from TV to receiver to get Bit stream /Dolby. - A lot, lot, lot of confusion among Best Buy sales associates as to what the extended maintenance policies they sell cover. Do yourself a big favor and have them download a hard copy IN THE STORE BEFORE YOU BUY and go over the details. (Go to the service desk and ask if the sales agent balks) The agreement BB sell for AV receives does not cover in- store replacement (that’s a –R agreement; they will not sell it on AV equipment). Some other terms and conditions you should evaluate before buying---read it to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Read it with the sales agent and help them do a more thorough job….. - Never got around to calibrating the speaker sound/location so can’t comment on that. Initial impression that sound was good for a low end component. FM tuner was very sensitive pulling in stations none of my other AV equipment would
