The 20 year old Kenwood 5.1 channel receiver bit the dust. We bought this Denon AVR-S540BT to replace it. Wish I could give six stars for ease of installation and use! Our LG smart TV, Toshiba Blu Ray player and this Denon unit all talk to one another. All we need is the TV remote to control whatever input is being watched and there was no special configuration required. Love the remote microphone to automatically balance the speakers. This Denon AVR-S540BT has been called an entry level amplifier in reviews but I can't imagine needed more than this for a typical home theater. The set up took minutes and the sound is awesome!

Upgraded from a base 5.1 Yamaha model and the sound is at an other level. Same Polk speakers but the power and sound quality is amazing. Such a great value and quality.

More than features than expected and sounds good when paired with Acoustimass speakers for 5.1 surround. Sturdy build and easy to set up. Comes with a small mic to support surround sound set up.

I bought this when my other receiver died. Once I figured out the remote batteries were bad, it was easy enough to set up. You do the setup through the TV screen, which worked, but I may have enjoyed an option to do that through the receiver. The TV makes full use of the 4k resolution now and the audio is very nice. There are plenty of sound mode choices to satisfy most. When you do set this up or later for additional tweaks, I would suggest downloading the full manual. That helps to explain some of the options such as allowing the unit to power on and off with the TV. This was offered for $50 less not long after I purchased this and got credit on the price match. I recommend this unit highly.

Denom has always been a quality name in the electronics. That was 40 years ago......Today it hasn’t changed. I have used this amp for about 4 months. The quality and versatility of this amp is second to none. Great sound, easy set up, the convenience of its own remote make this a great go to Amp. Fully capable to effectively run the 4 speakers that are hooked up to it. If you like to turn it up, this Amp will deliver with no distortion!!! Would by again..... Don’t pass this amp up.... for the price you won’t find a better amp. Demon a name to remember.

Was an easy set up and for the price has good sound, considering I had a Denon previously I purchased in 2007 which cost $800 and now is outdated and very hard to understand setting up these newer televisions with my old receiver. I am having some difficulty understanding how the sound works when I'm not using cable tv. When I switch to the smart tv I cannot get it to switch to HDMI or Dolby Digital. That's something I am looking into. But overall this receiver is a good choice for the price.

Great Reciever, I purchase this to Replace my Sony STR-DH510 had it for about 10 years and it still works however need a 4K pass-thru receiver. This receiver has great sound better than my old one, no HDMI switch lag and it has 5 HDMI inputs. There only one Con you have to download the manual but it is about 300 pages so I could see that this would have only increase the cost of the unit. Very happy with my purchase. Works well with my Samsung 7100 43" inch TV.

This is a good receiver for a budget set up or if you are wanting to upgrade from a sound bar and dable in home theater. Don't let the word budget scare you. This has plenty of power to push low to mid level speakers and probably some high end equipment. I sit about 10ft away from my TV and front left and right speakers, no center speaker with surrounds to the left and right and a subwoofer behind the couch and I'm blown away by the sound stepping up from a sound bar. If 5.2 is what you are looking for or if you want to start a home theater I feel like this a good starting point.

I bought this receiver to replace my Onkyo receiver when it stopped transmitting sound. The Denon receiver was easy to set up as the speaker inputs in the back are well labeled. I'm going to have to adjust the speaker balance or redo the automatic balance procedure because the music tends to overwhelm the dialogue when using certain surround-sound settings. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase as the price was right and it's performing much better than using only the speakers on my TV.

Overall, this is a great receiver for the price. I use it with a 2.1 system for my computer. It sounds basically the same as the last Denon I had which was a slightly higher-end model (AVR-1712). Only con so far is I get crackles and pops when my computer starts up (Windows login screen). I have searched Reddit and apparently this is an issue even on higher-end models like the X3700. Apparently it is a bit-streaming issue with ARC. It would be very nice if Denon could fix this issue via firmware.

Great features. Has Bluetooth, which works well. I like that it automatically hooks up to Alexa. Will try it with Sirius xm soon. When TV is turned on, if the denon is used on tv mode last, it will automatically turn on, no need to open the cabinet. Base response is good, I probably won’t get a sub-woofer. Volume needs to be at least 50% or higher to hear in a medium room, which is OK for us. Sound is good for the price, much better than tv alone.

Bought this under recommendations from people on the internet. Bought it mainly for playing music. So far it has worked well. One thing I was not fond of was that you have to have it connected to a TV to do the initial set up. Since we aren't hooking it up to the TV right now that was a little bit of a hassle but not terrible. As for performance, it sounds really good with the rest of the set up. Controls and adjustments are rather spartan but it gets the job done. The bluetooth is an awesome feature. For the money it's hard to beat.
