Awesome receiver
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I initially bought a Yamaha receiver which was much less expensive, but you get what you pay for. I couldn't get any volume on the Yamaha so I returned it. The Denon is more expensive, but I love the sound and versatility of it. The only thing I wish for is that it had A-B switching for the speakers otherwise it has more functions than I even need.

Easy Hook Up and intuitive!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had a very bad experience with a similar level Yamaha receiver but ventured with a brand name I was not sure about but....EXCELLENT outcome!! It was very easy to hook up and did some positive things I had not expected in that direction. Sound quality is clean and good, once you figure out how to manage the various inputs. It could offer a few more presets with the bass, mid-range levels but basically a pretty pure output. I got no complaints and was very happy after Best Buy did me a quick refund on the crummy Yamaha.

A quality receiver
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When my wife and I decided to have Geek Squad troubleshoot the hum noise in our surround sound system they determined that the old receiver was the problem. They recommended this Denon receiver as a replacement. The ease of use and quality features of tho midrange priced receiver is amazing. We paired it with a Harmony remote and now the hum is gone and we have our theater sound back better than ever. With Geek Squad installation and set up we couldn’t be more pleased.

Premium 4K AV output at a great price!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to replace a Yamaha receiver that unfortunately shorted out during a recent storm. The associates at Best Buy were super knowledgeable and helped me map out getting my semi-complicated setup back up and running. They recommended this Denon based on my devices. The setup was quick and simple and everything is back up and running perfectly. Love the easy setup interface and high quality output. The 4K output was a great upgrade as well!

Good replacement
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SOund is good. Setup was OK. The auto setup got the distance correct but had to manually set up speaker volumes on all speakers. Bass response is great. Setup for use with ATT Uverse remote was easy. Auto Switch function works most of the time. Although screen savers being on confuse which input should be on occasionally. It has not interrupted currently watched, just doesn't auto switch. Bluetooth works great for playback. iPhone 8+, phone volume buttons control receiver volume up/Down. Bluetooth remote isn't worth not just using the regular remote.

Excellent receiver
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While my AVR-1513 still works fine, with my BB certificates, this receiver was practically free so I decided the extra HDMI port and 4K capability was worth the upgrade. The AVR-S540 is virtually identical to my previous receiver except for the added port but it does have a really nice speaker calibration feature that my -1513 did not have. It automatically balances the speakers both in volume and frequency response. The change in tone and volume is noticeable during the calibration process. So, for a low end receiver - which is all we need - at $280, this receiver is a bargain. I've always been satisfied with Denon products.

Overall I love the unit
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have to give this unit high marks for what it is and what it is not. For a budget hi fi receiver it delivers straight forward features that are easy to set up with controls that are intuitive. The sound is clean and powerful which is an upside surprise for a unit in this price range. Also, the tuner is probably the best I have experienced in quite a while. Using only the 75 ohm wire antenna, included, I can receive 4 or 5 decent sounding FM stations when before they were unlistenable. The unit itself is a simple black box like many of the competitors but the controls are clearly set forth. They duplicate all of the functions on the remote control and the display is big enough and bright enough (there are four brightness settings) to read from across the room. On the down side, the unit drives only one set of speakers with spring posts rather than the more secure screw in terminals. The blue tooth is finicky. I had to call their tech help to get sound from my speakers even though the unit showed it was paired and connected with my computer. It turned out to be a simple fix but blue tooth has been around long enough for Denon to get it right. Lastly, the usb port is on the front of the unit so if I want to play music from my thumb drive, it sticks out like a sore thumb. Overall I love the unit. It doesn’t try to be more than it is (thank you ONKYO). What it does, it does competently so you can enjoy the music and spend less time trouble shooting.

The standard in upgraded home audio
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My previous pioneer died. It was around 4 years old and the power supply went out. This being the base for demon, the sound experience is night and day. It has more power, cleaner sound and just blew me away for the money. This is my first experience with a another brand outside of Sony and pioneer. I did get the warranty plan to make sure the same thing didn’t happen after a few years as the pioneer did. So time will tell in quality.

Inexpensive AV Receiver for 2nd room
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got rid of my CRT television in a 2nd room, and picked up an LG TV and this AV receiver. I do not use the receiver's tuner. The only problem I had was trying to get multi-channel stereo (4 speakers) from a stereo source (Xifinity x6i). This receiver does not have Dolby Surround, but does have "Multi-Channel Stereo" as the default was DD+ from the x6i. The bluetooth connects easily. The speaker EQ set up is menu driven and super easy. This was last year's model, so the price was right!

Great Upgrade
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Needed to upgrade from an older,(and reliable) Denon receiver to one that can pass full 4k Video/Audio. This guy was not only affordable, but on sale as well. Packs plenty of power, options, and inputs. Setup was easier than my previous model too. If all need is 5.1 Sound, this is exactly what you should get. I guess my one gripe which I knew ahead of time, you can only listen to one source at a time. I sometimes like putting the radio on while watching sports, or playing games.

Nice
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great features, I thought I needed a more expensive model but this provides a nice quality sound with the Sonance speakers. My media room sounds awesome. One of my favorite features is being able to turn on the receiver with my Direct TV remote when I turn the TV on while the receiver is in the cabinet. I get maximum use of my surround sound system every time I turn on my TV without having to open the cabinet. Nice feature.

Satisfied so far
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have owned for past 6 months, using it pretty frequently with my TCL 75in 535. Setup was so easy, and I've used the self-calibration setup multiple times as I kept rearranging my home theatre speakers. Have had no issues with connecting my iPhone via BT to play Spotify. I have my ps4 connected to the 'Game' HDMI and have not experienced any lag or issues. Very satisfied for the price.

The Last Receiver I Will Ever Need to Buy
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice, basic receiver at a good price. Lots of features, such as latest 4K HDR video, supports all the sound modes, built-in Bluetooth. I don't really need anything more. There is plenty of power, especially considering we live in a condo, so we would never be able to crank it anyway. The only thing I wish it had is the ability to re-name the HDMI inputs. It may very well be the last receiver I will ever need to buy.

Easy set up, great sound
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded from an older Sony model due to running out of HDMI inputs for all of the items I wanted to hook up. Set up was very easy and the interface is very simple to use. It was pretty much a plug and play set up. To my surprise, the sound quality is much improved over my prior receiver, all while powering my same speaker set up and single sub. An added bonus, it still has the component hook ups so I can still use the Wii for those days of nostalgia.
