Should be 0 stars
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Buyer beware! I purchased this receiver as an upgrade from my Sony STRD-600 which was made before hdmi input/outputs were standard. Although it’s a fairly basic, low end model, it should have been adequate for my needs. It was also the only one available for shipping as the equivalent models for Sony and Yamaha were sold out. Should have waited. This is easily the worst electronics purchase I have ever made. Why?? HDCP2.2 errors — on both my Roku (any channel ie. Prime, Netflix) and smart tv I would get the errors. I tried every input, bought all new cables, and switched every setting even remotely related and it still didn’t matter. Oddly enough, when I googled “HDCP2.2 errors”, virtually every item listed made reference to this specific receiver. Hmm Digital sound — never heard of it, I guess. Again, no mater the inputs, cables, or settings, nothing but processed two channel stereo. Yes, I was using the ARC in/outputs. Failed to operate in standby/passthrough mode — since I don’t really want amplified sound for all my viewing, I like to shut off the amplifier and listen to the tv’s speakers. Not in this models world! Again, combinations, blah, blah. The receiver simply turned itself on repeatedly while as I was watching. Standby, 10 minutes later it’s powered back on. Also, it’s ugly. Happy ending — as I shipped this back to Best Buy, the Sony STR-D590 became available from Best Buy. I received it two days later, hooked it up, and am enjoying its perfect functionality at this very moment.

Bluetooth unreliable
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great brand but super disappointed with the Bluetooth. Could not maintain a connection sub 6’. Nice design and great sound otherwise.

Do not buy this product
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When it works, it works well. Sometimes you have to turn it off and on up to a dozen times to get it to transmit HDMI. Have replaced HDMI cables twice. They work well with my 15 year old Harman Kardon. Every time you turn it on you do not know if it is going to ever pass a signal. Waited for Corona virus restrictions to lift to attempt to return this but the website says I waited to long. My loss, Don t make the same mistake I did!!! Beware!!!

Terrible Receiver
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have it connected to a gaming PC, XBox, Switch and my tv's smart features. This receiver fails to complete even the most basic tasks at every level. With CEC turned off or on, it's constantly powering my devices on in the middle of the night. It's constantly sending "device off" signals to my PC, causing Windows 10 to think a monitor has been disconnected and reconnected over and over again. This receiver constantly changes input on it's own. Every time it acts up, it wipes whatever settings I've changed and I have to start over again and again. I'll repeat, I've tried turning CEC off and on. I've now spent four days trying to set this receiver up properly and nothing works. This isn't my first AVR, so I know this isn't how devices are supposed to work.

Posted .I can tell you that none of our AVRs are CEC control devices. They are CEC response devices only. This means they don't have the ability to send or generate a CEC command to another device. They can only respond to a CEC command (i.e. changing to a different source) or pass through a CEC command from another CEC enabled device. With that said, it's most likely your TV or another CEC enabled source device sending the command to your PC. The AVR doesn't have the capability of doing this.

I like the sound
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We first begin watching TV by Comcast remote then use the Denon remote. The TV screen goes blank then the TV and sound comes on...seems O.K. BUT, why does the TV screen go blank?

No Multi Zone
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Denon is always a Great option. The reason I returned was due to No multiple zone capability. Will not work with in-home stereo system

Only 1 hdmi input worked
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Saw this complaint in a few other reviews. Only 1 of the hdmi inputs functioned. ALL others dysfunctional. The one that worked sounded good but could only connect one system. Had to return it and upgrade to a Yamaha receiver.

Not worth the hassle
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hooked this up easily enough to my LG 65 OLED, the sound was pretty amazing and 2 weeks later it stopped working. Looked through many forums and this is a common issue. Tried emailing customer support and received no response, can never get through on the phone. I would not buy this again.

Good one
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I liked the options it gives but the downside is that the usb port is not compatible with all the drives. Basically its not compatible with USB 3.

Did not like the sound
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used this receiver with my Sony tower speakers which I was using with an entry level Onkyo (which stopped writing). Denon did not have similar higher frequency response and the music quality was not good. It didn't make my tweeters work well. I replaced it with another Onkyo.

Great for 1080p
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Doesn’t seem to be 4k comparable like it says it is. It does work pretty good but the remote feels cheap. 3.5 out of 5

It’s OK
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Didn’t work with my fire cube as well as the Denon I replaced. Also, didn’t realize this when I bought it but doesn’t have a channel for a separate amp to add speakers throughout the house. Lastly, can’t seem to find the right surround sound setting that sounds good. Needs more settings

Posted .We're very sorry for the poor experience. The S540BT is our entry level model so it does not have some of the features that our mid level models support. I advise looking into models like the S950H or X3700H for the feature set you're describing.

It was a nice receiver but lost an hdmi port.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When everything was working it was a very nice receiver. After three weeks of periodic use the dvd hdmi port stopped working. I tried different cables and devices, but nothing would pass through that port. The other hdmi ports are still working, for now. I don’t have much faith as for how long though. There are other reviews discussing hdmi ports going bad. I rolled the dice and decided to give it a try anyway. Luck wasn’t on my side for this one.

Sounds fine but cuts out periodically
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The low price makes this an acceptable purchase. The sound is fine but periodically cuts out on both audio and video.
