We're very sorry for the poor experience. Static in the channels could be a fault in the AVR, but if it was only on 1 source and only when changing channels (TV stations) then it's most likely the cable/sat box that was causing it. The AVR is only designed to work with a powered sub or a passive sub in conjunction with a sub amp. denon

We do offer a discrete Phono input starting with our S650H model. Regarding the S540BT, you can use either analog input along with an external Phono pre-amp in between the turntable and AVR. denon

I've had this receiver for a few years now and it works great! I bought it when I was on a tighter budget and don't plan on upgrading, so it's a great value. Streaming on Spotify or over Wifi are really easy and it works great with my turntable as well. I used to use it with my TV and it functioned just as easily. The sound quality is really nice paired with my JBL speakers and Technics turntable

Was easy to setup. Paired with my Samsung Galaxy S8 Active. Had an issue pairing with my HP envy Win10 laptop. It was the laptops built in Intel Bluetooth. Plugged in a Rocketfish Bluetooth dongle I had from my last laptop and paired fine, streaming music flawlessly. Try and get it on sale bought two weeks ago BestBuy honored the sale price. Did not use the HDMI passthrough as I didn't want to use the amp when we just watch tv. Did set up the optical in and coax in works great with excellent separation. It is a great receiver if you only want 5.1 or 5.2. I replaced a Sony AVR with this receiver and am very pleased with it so far.

    Great Sound/Picture when it doesn't flicker/cutout

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We were really pleased with this setup for quite some time; the sound was great, the picture was good, and it was intuitive to our Roku turning on and switching channels, and having many HDMI inputs. Very easily installation. However, the screen began to flicker on and off and audio would cut in and out often. Used multiple HDMI cables for Roku, XBox 1, XBox 360 and PC, unfortunately the HDMI inputs were not having any of it. Searched for similar problems and apparently this Denon receiver is known to have these problems. I would avoid and go with a slightly more expensive receiver.

    Nice Simple Unit

I purchased this to replace an aging amp when I finally switched from satellite to streaming TV. My previous amp had all kinds of bells and whistles. And I rarely if ever used them. This unit fits my needs much better. More simple, easy to set-up and use, and thus far has met my expectations. I have only one complaint and that's the volume control using the remote. You have two options - momentary presses which changes the volume in 1/2 units, or press and hold. The problem is, one is too slow, and the other too quick so I find myself fiddling for a bit when changing sources/channels. Other than that piddling annoyance I am enjoying the unit and it has been working well for me.

    Fantastic Receiver

I bought it as a replacement for the Insignia 2.0 Receiver that just completely died after 7 months. The speakers would only work on bluetooth and nothing else. I was so excited when I got this set up and everything plugged in. All of the speakers worked, including the polk audio command bar which required an optical cable/hdmi. I assumed if I bought what Polk advertised on their website they would all collaborate with each other and I was right. I was surprised when I found out that you can control the receiver's volume with your TV remote control. There's a lot of neat features included with this product.

Sounds great... when it isnt broken.

So I purchased one of these because it had what i needed; 4K pass through, 5.2, all the decoders. The first one had one dead HDMI port right out of the box. No problem, best buy swapped it out for another. The second one lasted 6 month before POP! All the HDMI ports failed. No audio, no video at all. The receiver powers up, and it will communicate with the TV (the menus work). But nothing from the source works. The optical input works, but that's basically useless if you want 5.2 channels as optical only transfers 2 channels. So, best buy wont take it back because its 6 months old. I now need to try and deal with Denon. Good luck with that. It's likely going to end up in the trash. I will say that the sound quality was excellent when it worked. The setup was a breeze. Too bad its useless to someone if you want it to last more than 6 months. It appears I'm not the only one with this issue, either. Lots of failed HDMI ports on the reviews.

    Video pass thru flickering

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The sound of this receiver is great for Dolby digital, DTS or multi channel audio content. If you still use two channel content from certain devices the dsp is fair to create surround sound. The video pass thru from the receiver to the tv does flicker. The sound cuts out also. I had to run my Roku and other media streamer directly to the TV. This is a known problem with Denon. Several posts are on the internet concerning this problem. I wouldn't buy this receiver if my main reason was to add video pass thru
