Meh...
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Running the 960 hooked to my computer. For normal operations it works well. I usually play music and jam along with my guitar rig. Running the amp at 75 on the volume for anything more than 10-15 minutes and it overheats. Basically shuts down. Need to let it cool and unplug and replug back in to reset it. My advise as a long time Denon owner, look for something else if you are really going to drive it.

Posted .Internal heat is dependent on the wattage output, the length of time in use and how the AVR is installed. We recommend you have at least 6 inches of overhead clearance so the heat can dissipate properly. For your application, I would recommend installing an AV cooling module to keep the internal temps down in the AVR.

Denon AV Receiver issues
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Constant audio/video synchronization issues. Changes depending on which component I'm watching (i.e. TV, Blue Ray, etc). Tried to adjust through Auto Lip Sync function but haven't been able to eliminate the time delay between audio & video. Even when I get it almost synchronized, it changes. Even just watching the TV the synchronization changes by turning the TV on or off. Also has issues with the volume staying constant. Also a "download updates" screen transposes itself across the TV screen every time the TV is turned on, but it doesn't allow you to update or do anything else and eventually goes away. Shouldn't have this kind of problem with a Receiver this expensive.

Posted .The lip sync issues could be caused by a video processing setting in your TV. The AVR processes the audio internally, syncs the video in the output stage and then delivers the video to the TV. Any sync issues would then most likely be caused by additional video processing from the TV. You can also try a better HDMI output cable to rule out any data transfer / delay issues. The volume / audio output will differ depending on the format being decoded. For example, Dolby and DTS decoding creates a surround field while PCM decoding may output in Stereo or Multi Channel Stereo. The volume will be different when outputting a surround field versus a stereo/multi channel stereo mode. Regarding the updates, you most likely have the "Allow for Update" setting disabled. At that point, you will be notified when there's a firmware update available. We recommend keeping the unit updated for optimal performance.

Denon Quality is Going Down
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.DO NOT BUY DENON!!! Quality has taken a dive. When I got it, I was so excited. It worked great and sounded great, but the paramount thing about accepting this product, is that it continues to work after 4 months, and mine did not. Tried to go power it on one night and it powered off right after. Continued to do so. Did all the recommended fixes, no dice. So now I am PAYING TO RETURN A VERY HEAVY PACKAGE ACROSS THE USA. That's right....YOU PAY if something goes wrong. In a nutshell...go with Yamaha, my last one lasted over 12 years and I passed it on to another person as well.

My first Denon and I’m disappointed
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first purchased this Denon receiver right out the box easy set up it sound amazing however today I finally decided to crank it up playing YouTube videos for music I had it up to 70 is sounded so great then all of a sudden it went into thermal mode I couldn’t lower or raise the volume ,then the remote would not work and then the receiver totally shut off and I cannot turn it back on even after it cooled down what a huge disappointment it will be going back to the store that’s why it got no stars

Mr Williams
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unsure about receives abilities. We informed by the geek squad technician the my current Cat5/HDMI extender isn’t inline with the version needed to support proper operation on devices connect to the TV via the receiver. Was told to expect a call to purchase the need extender, but that was over 8 hours ago. I say this with preface that my original geek squad consultant that was extremely helpful and attentive is on vacation. Nevertheless, it’s confusing at best to have more questions than answers after my geek squad installed.

Posted .Hello, sorry about the frustrations. I imagine the Geek Squad is speaking of a Mesh Network. A good Mesh Network will allow you to hardline the receiver and provide a much better internet signal.

Hire proper developers for HEOS, PLEASE!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Too many issues with HEOS for this price. This is a “series 1” device and will not work with “series 2” devices, such as the Denon Home 150 wireless speaker. The point of HEOS is to play multiple devices simultaneously throughout my house, but the hacks at Denon can’t manage to code a universal firmware and software grouping across a family of devices, yet they continue to advertise HEOS as if this isn’t an issue at all. I will be returning this AVR this weekend.

AV Receiver and Geek Squad Installation Effort
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely terrific AV Receiver, and ALSO a fantastic installation effort by the Geek Squad! The Geek Squad Team was nothing less than spectacular in their effort to hook the receiver up to my other devices! They all deserve a special pay raise, corner offices, expanded vacation time, AND free donuts for life! Nice work!

Serious Buyer's Remorse
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The AVR-S960H has proven to be a terrible purchase. The unit randomly goes into "speaker protection mode" and stops functioning entirely. This happens with nothing connected to it - no speakers, no components, no game consoles. It happens unpredictably; sometimes right after you switch it on, other times it works fine for a few hours before failure. The unit worked fine for about two weeks, now it's just a seven-hundred-dollar paperweight. Too late to return it to Best Buy, and Denon's answer was to ship it, at my expense, to a repair center and wait however long that takes for repairs. If it was in the last month of warranty, that might be fine - but it's brand new. Not a good answer from them.
