I had a previous Denon and upgraded to this one to get 4k. So glad I did. Awesome receiver, produces gr8 sound and has a phono setup. I ran the Audyssey sound setup for my 7.1 speakers and sound perfect. The sound in all my speakers r perfect and blows my mind. When I hear a doorbell or cricket, I get up to check on it. At least, I'm getting my exercise!!

Great Future proof Receiver Sounds Great! only downside not confirmed by me but cause i haven't tried yet but Iv'e read/heard it doesn't support 4k/120 on Xbox Series X cause of the chip-set doesn't recognize the uncompressed signal. but there is a workaround by directly hooking the Series X directly to the tv and using EArc to get your sound. I'll Update when I can confirm this.

The receiver is very nice and allows for blue tooth streaming of music and all the hookups we could need. Pumping the television sound through the receiver has done something odd with the sound. The receiver nor the TV have great troubleshooting guides to address this. Because of this, a four star rating.

I've had my receiver for over a month now. The features are unbelievable. The airplay the heos app is awesome. I had a Yamaha before it was nice and it was good for what I needed. But when I upgraded to this denon it is more than what I asked for. For the price range it is awesome.

After being a Yamaha fan for years, my Yamaha receiver's HDMI ports started to fail. I researched a few brands and settled on this one. It was cheaper than a compatible Yamaha and offered more features. I am super happy with it, and it runs our home theater. The remote is pretty standard and easy to use too. Calibration is super easy with the included mic.

I loved our non 4K Marantz for many years but when we upgraded our tv to a Sony OLED this Dennon 4K was the perfect replacement. Even the remotes are practically identical. We did have a few hiccups with the pass through switching properly but with a few tweaks it is now flawless.

So far so good. Been an Onkyo fan for years but decided to try Denon. Menu can be a little tricky to get to some settings but basic settings are pretty easy to find and change. Sound quality is good but Iam still trying to tweak it a little at a time. At this point I would buy it again and recommend it of you need an upper middle range receiver.

Awesome receiver! Very much like the use of the microphone to tune the surround sound for the room. Through that process, it detected I had one of the speakers wired backwards and adjusted for the room configuration. I also very much appreciate the ability to play audio from my iPhone through the stereo.

Replaced a 15 year old Denon AVR with this one. Was easily able to make the same connections as the rear panel is very similar. performed the surround sound optimization procedure using the provided microphone and it was pretty simple. Sound is excellent and my zone 2 speakers on the backyard patio sound great too.

This receiver was very easy to set up. Just follow the instructions. It came with a microphone to balance out the channels. That was also quite easy to do. It's best if you have a tripod for this, but it comes with a cardboard stand if you don't have a tripod. I am very pleased with this unit.

Easy to set up; instructions available as needed. Very much like the 8K input which I use to stream to my 8K TV. Use it from my ROKU, and there actually is some (not much as yet) 8K content available on YouTube. There will be more. Much 4K available now on several channels. Very Satisfied.

Surround Sound without the extra cables. No more need for fiber optic cables. Makes for very clean, immersive 7.2 Surround Sound. With a larger tv its like being IN the movie.

Seems I've got one with all the known bugs! I've owned this since Sept. 2019. I have been in the AV business for over 3 decades, installed and set up MANY Denon receivers as well as other brands. Just saying, I don't know everything, but I know my way around most AV. I needed to upgrade my 8 year old Denon for 4K compatibility. Don't need lots of fancy stuff, but don't want to have my gear obsolescent right out of the box. Chose the AVR-s960H since it matched my previous Denon power and feature wise. Since day one, I have had issues with input switching. For example: If I use the CD input for analog audio from my SONOS, I need to shut the receiver off then back on. Switching to another source (BD via HDMI, TV Audio via optical) requires the receiver to be powered back off then on again. This happens approx, 60% of the time. I have checked and I have the latest firmware updates, I've factory reset the unit at least a dozen times. Still having the same issue. Not as critical, but still annoying is that I can't set the Volume level at turn-on. I really like that on the old Denon. It has it in the menu, but if I set it (to 40 for example), it doesn't keep that setting. I have set it to "LAST" which works as it should. Again, no change when resetting or checking for firmware update. I contacted Denon USA support about these issues. They had no solution other than what I tried. On the second contact to them, they were worse than useless. All they could do was read the script off the monitor. I see there is an update to correct the same issues with upper models, but no mention of whether it will include the AVR-s960H. At this point I am just living with the issues, but I am not happy with the whole experience. I can't say I'd recommend Denon to anyone at this point.

The initial issue you described is caused by poor EDID negotiation between the TV, AVR and source. Disconnect the HDMI cable between the TV and AVR from the rear panel of the AVR and playback the audio sources with the TV's EDID out of the equation. (HDMI output cable disconnected) See if you get the same result. For EDID issues, the TV manufacturer should be able to alter the way the TV's EDID is presented to the other devices, especially when there's an HDMI repeating device in the mix. Given your experience in the business, you should know exactly what I'm talking about. The second issue was a firmware bug with the Power On Volume Level where the set volume would always revert to 0 upon power up. This was corrected in all "H" models with our last firmware update, so please make sure the S960H is running current firmware. denon

All I can say is wow! The receiver is on the expensive side for my budget, but given my Yamaha died after just 3 years I needed something quickly and decided to future proof..glad I did! NVIDIA Shield, PS4 and my Sony XBR-85X90CH all work without a hitch..sound is great for a sources
