Denon AVR-S970H

Most documented, some through trial and error. The setup program was highly useful in that it identified several speaker wiring issues. Once corrected, the 7.1 surround sound was brilliant, clear, and full!

I got this to replace one of two 5 yr old unit Denon AVR 2700 receivers that died as I was very happy with the one I had I was happy to buy from them again. i have had this unit for 3 months now and so far I am happy with it (it does not play the audio from Oppo players) but for everything else it has perform flawlessly. Woke up this morning and my 2nd 2700 appears to be dying the same way as the first one did. make me wonder if the life of these units are only 5 or 6 years. but for the price I paid I am going with another company due to no sound on my Oppo (Just video).

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This replaced my avr-3311 which was a great amp, this one is a quality piece, but just has way too much crap in the software which most people will never use or need for any system, after the last firmware update I literally had to start at square one again and was not pleased, the phono imput is a preamp which if you have a newer turntable is useless, my pro-ject is one of the best I’ve ever owned and when I dropped the needle for the first time I thought the stylus had been broken, then after another thirty minutes on the phone with the manufacturer I was informed that the phono needed to be switched out to an auxiliary input, once that smoke cleared everything was back to somewhat normal, but there’s more, the simple fact that you must run the audio setup to access fifty percent of the functionality of the receiver is nothing more than a joke, also note that to properly run a 7.1 surround you are guided to use both zones,? Which I still don’t get, but I’m no sound engineer, just a simple stagehand who has delt with some of the largest and loudest systems on the planet, lol but it is what it is… for the most part this is a decent receiver, just be forewarned that there are a lot of hoops to jump through to acces some items, and be ready to call the manufacturer during setup at least a few times….

App works well. I’m only running 2 towers and it sounds great. I am a total member so you get the warranty which is a great deal.

Walk through process, just make sure you go into all the settings to make the playback as good as you can. Otherwise, set it up with some towers and a separate in wall set up and it does wonders for both!
