Not A Very Good Reciever

Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I remember when Denon was a quality name in audio, but I returned this one after a couple of days because it just would not recognize my surround sound rear channel speakers! I tried everything but had no luck. The weird thing is, the receiver wound perform a sound check of all speakers to get the optimal output to the speakers, and sound came out of every single one during the test. After two frustrating afternoons I finally threw in the towel and returned it. The price was decent but if it doesn't function the way you need to it could be free and still be junk.

We are sorry to hear about your experience regarding our receiver. The lack of rear channels can occur based on the mode the receiver is in or the source material that the receiver is decoding. If the mode is set to one that does not output to rear channels, then you will not hear anything. If the source itself does not have any information in the rear channels, then the receiver cannot output audio that does not exist. This will be true of any receiver. If put in Multi Channel Stereo mode, then the receiver would have taken an existing stereo mix and split it across all the speakers to simulate surround sound, this may have been an alternative if the source you were feeding to the receiver was available in stereo only. I hope that you would be willing to give us another chance to show you why we are highly regarded and if you do, you can always reach out to us directly for support on how to best setup your system.

Worst Installation EVER

The service provided to install my new TV and receiver was substandard at best. It has been a week since they tried the first installation, which failed because the receiver was not working correctly. They told us it was our cable box. I got a new cable box, but it's still not working. They came out on Monday, 11/27/23, to try again, and it didn't work. The receiver does not work correctly. They were supposed to be here today, Thursday, 11/30/23, and didn't show up because they made a mistake arranging the appointment. Now, they want us to wait until Tuesday, December 5, to have somebody come out and swap the receiver for a new one. Which means somebody must be home again. Meanwhile, they are not paying for my time off to be home and wait for them. But wait, it gets better. I got a $50 BestBuy gift card offer for my troubles. Yes, according to BestBuy, my two days off from work to wait for them is $50. They must be kidding. This installation is beyond HORRIBLE. Please don't go to Best Buy. Go to PCRichards or buy it on Amazon. BestBuy sucks !!

False advertisement READ

But it states it pass 4k@120 HZ. It does not due to a bad chipset. I think models after certain serial numbers have the updated chipset. But I bought brand new and after many hours of frustration I found this out after digging the internet. Denon fix is to send a separate box that needs power but only send 1 HDMI. Not acceptable. Only buy this if you plan to use this for audio only or sending 4k video at 60hz.

The AVR-S970H is equipped with the ability to pass 4K/120HZ video signals, no matter the serial number. There may be a setting that was overlooked. In the video settings, select 8K enhanced. This will activate the 4K/120HZ capabilities. I have attached a link that will help guide you. Will not communicate with LG TV

Good product - beware of open box

Don't Let BestBuy Inistall for You

Still doesn't work properly - sometimes on, sometimes off with no rhyme or reason.
