    Denon unit met all expectations

I did my research before selecting this Denon unit as my best value option to replace my old HK AVR. And now I've had the chance to run in most things, I am having the best AV experience ever. Running all audio through the Denon in a 5.1.2 +2 (Zone) set up and normally bypass video to my LG OLED77XC (with eARC) but have used the Denon video processor as well. Audyssey auto set up was perfect (with a little manual tweak for my height speakers). 2 small issues: Zone 2 remote is not user friendly but can be learned and the CEC with all connected devices would not work no matter what I tried - gave up on it. I am amazed how big a difference the Denon has made with my exiting speakers and look forward to using all the new audio capabilities I did not have. Tried Dobly Atmos sources for the first time and more to come.

Why not five stars? I do recommend this and have no better suggestions; based on reviews (such as the one in HomeTheaterHiFi), this seems to be as good as it gets for this price point. So don't take four stars as a nudge to look elsewhere. Instead, this is more of an, understand what you're getting into review. First, firmware/software updates have been flaky. The most recent one (with an estimated installation time of 11 minutes) hung until, after an hour, I restarted, and then restarted, and then restarted, etc and then it eventually got over whatever was bothering it and finished the install. But then the audio was a mess (audio from my Apple TV was in "stereo" and inaudible) until another couple of restarts cleared that up. And then it wanted to do another update (or maybe the same one). It now seems to be operating correctly. The bottom line is that these things can act like computers in the worst sense of the term. Second, I've found dialog intelligibility on Atmos from the Apple TV to be sub par. (Note, however, that I have a 5.1 system.) Non-Atmos seems fine, whether on the Apple TV or from an UHD BD player. I'm not sure if it's an Atmos issue or just an Apple TV issue or maybe an Atmos on a 5.1 system issue, and it may have been fixed by those updates (I'm not sure), and if so, good. Other than this, however, the sound is really, really good. Third, the onscreen UI, while not terrible, is clumsy and opaque, with controls and settings information scattered around in ways that I don't find intuitive. I don't want to exaggerate, but it's hard to believe that this is a circa 2020/21 interface. It's also ugly. It's possible that the new 3800 fixes these issues (in addition to adding more HDMI 2.1 inputs); I don't know. This replaces a Pioneer SC-27 AVR, which was still going strong but was, among other things, not useful as an HT hub because it could not pass 4K. (And the Pioneer replaced a Denon AVR-3300. I've been in this game for a while.) I have a 5.1 setup with Dynaudio speakers and an SV SB-13 Ultra subwoofer.

You have not heard Dolby Atmos until you heard this. Upgraded from my old Yamaha Aventage RX1010 which was a beast, but was limited by the technology of its time. This AVR had made me heard things I have not heard before on the movies of the same source (true 4k). Dolby Atmos technology is indeed amazing. Runs very hot though and hence I am running this with AC infinity to cool this next gen tech down.

If you take the time to learn how to properly set up this AVR and it’s connected components, it is amazing. I bought this to replace a 10+ year old Denon 3808ci AVR, with which I was still happy, but this is another level! I am currently using the x3700h for 5.2.4 sound in one room and stereo for a second zone. I expect to expand to 7.2.4 in the main zone in the future. While the advanced audio codecs you get from, say, a 4K streaming services are expectedly impressive, even stereo PCM is converted to convincing Atmos via the post-processing. I have opted for video pass through, to let my OLED TV perform any video digital signal processing, so I cannot rate the AVR’s own video DSP. To be expected, letting your digital media streamer, AVR and TV all do video processing at the same time will give some pretty awful results (I was able to give everything a dark green hue at one point). I choose to have the AVR focus on audio codecs, the TV focus on HDR, streamers focus on channel surfing, etc. The 4 “quick select” stored configurations are useful for not only selecting inputs, but also remembering the last used audio mode for that input, offering the best match where the signal type has changed. The two speaker presets allow me to have one setting using my front speakers as full band speakers with one set of crossovers, and then a different setting, leveraging the subs for movies. The Audyssey room acoustics correction works well. The extra $20 for the iPad app was worth it for me. I was able to easily set a slower high frequency roll off for the speaker preset that I use for movies which, for me and my ears, made for a much more engaging experience. I therefore have different EQ settings for the music vs the movie speaker preset... that is huge. These two features of quick selects and two stored speaker presets are great when using a programmable universal remote. My family can switch between music-optimized and movie-optimized configurations with one click, with the crossover and EQ settings changing in the background. With the improvements in CEC, in my own configuration, I could almost have used the universal remote from my TV. As it is I can pick up any of the now redundant remotes and with one click, the TV, AVR and streamer will all turn on or off. But I like my specialized universal remote. YMMV. Alexa skill for the HEOS high res music streaming from, say, Spotify is currently. I believe that Denon may make some improvements as they merge their HEOS brand with their Denon AVRs. Until such time as that may happen, the iPad apps work fine for selecting music from the internet or music servers / networked attached storage on your network, including high res FLAC files. All HDMI 2.1 / eARC / CEC features that I have needed work flawlessly in combination with ultra high speed cables, the latest generation Roku Ultra (2020) and an HDMI 2.1 compliant TV. The Bluetooth for my headset works flawlessly for those times I might want it. I originally set up the streamer, AVR and TV with WiFi from my high speed internet. It worked perfectly. I have converted to wired. It is possible that the combination is even better, now. I found an old digitized version of a DVD my family bought a long time ago and accessed it via my PLEX app on an attached HDMI 2.1 media streamer. I watched the movie with my daughter last night. Despite not being encoded in a more modern codec, she was in awe! Admittedly, we have some nice speakers, but this AVR, with the room correction, really does take advantage of our speakers’ potential. The x3700h is an AVR, not a sound bar. Expect to invest some time to get the best out of it. It’s power is in its flexibility (and amplifiers and power supply). I am probably only using a fraction of what is available, but it is already great. The difference between the sound and video of the AVR straight out of the box vs. fully tuned is enormous, going from “I’m happy” to “OMG”. My last Denon AVR lasted my family a decade. I expect the same from this new AVR.

This was a significant upgrade from my previous 5.1 receiver. It was very easy to get set up and is successfully driving a 7.1.4 setup by using my previous receiver as the external amp to drive the extra 2 channels. It sounds wonderful in my medium/small theater room. Using the Audyssey setup assistent made getting all the speakers balanced a breeze.

This is my 3rd Denon receiver and after having it for over a month, I have to say that it is the best one so far. I’m running a 5.2.4 Dolby Atmos setup in my home theater and this has satisfied my need to fill the room with sound. My wife even mentioned how much better movies sound and I’m the only one who ever notices sound differences. Setup was easy with Audyssey. Tweeked a few things to my liking and I don’t see any need to upgrade for a long time to come. Hardest part was finding this receiver in a BB store. In the big city of Houston there were only 3 left in this whole SE Texas region which required a long drive across town to get one. Have seen the newer model for a little more money but this one in my opinion will more than satisfy anyone looking for a great home theater experience.

Purchased the Denon X3700 a few weeks ago. Setup was amazingly easy with the guided on-screen menu. Connection to WiFi was a breeze, but ended up doing a wired Ethernet connection as the receiver is a ways from the router. Installed the current firmware and was ready to go! I’m running an 11.2 Atmos setup with an outboard NAD power amp for front L/R speakers. The amp will power 9 channels on its own, but if you want to run 11 ch you’ll need to use an extra amp or an old receiver would work too. Sound is excellent! Clean, punchy, and immersive. I downloaded the Denon remote app to my phone, and it is very useful for changing levels, surround modes, etc. Also the Audyssey setup works great for getting the speakers adjusted for your personal room acoustics. Very pleased with this receiver, and would recommend it with no reservations.

In some ways buying this particular Denon model was a bit of an overkill for me right now because I don't use as many as 9.2 speakers yet (the room is not wired for that many), but I went with this model for the number of inputs, including a phono input for my turntable. With 2 BluRay players, a Roku box, a laptop, tape deck, a cable box, a turntable, etc. you can run out of connections very quickly. Speaker setup was very easy and so was connecting all the components. I also really like HEOS connectivity - makes it really easy for any family member to play music on the 3 different HEOS systems I installed in the kitchen, living and family rooms... Sound quality is impressive with my Martin Logan speakers.

I will state, the first X3700H I received was defective, it had a horrible hum on all speakers, thinking it was my new house and something wrong with the electrical I tried line conditioners and finally swapped for a new one! This unit is Amazing! I paired it with an external Emotiva BASX5 Amp so I am able to to have all 11.2 channels! Denon's software is a little clunky but much better than most amp/receivers out there. Room Correction is pretty good, I think a better microphone would improve the results and I wish it came with Dirac, but it's decent and I've used it 3 times now when I change the room or speaker placement. Would I buy again? yes Would I recommend for a friend? yes! I am a fan, it's working well and I feel it's a bargain for the features/quality compared to the fancier name brands. Is it perfect? No. But I love it.

The Denon AVR-X3700H receiver was easy to setup, once the connections were made for my existing 5.1 speaker system and the TV, DVD Player, CD Player and VHS/DVD Player. It helped immensely that each cable was marked ahead of time. Then, I ran the Audyssey MultEQ-XT32 room correction system using the included microphone. After Audyssey finished its work, I adjusted the output as recommended in some Youtube videos. The sound output is perfect now at each speaker and the subwoofer. The sound output for this system and receiver is fantastic. Watching TV is most enjoyable with the satellite system feeding into the receiver via HDMI, and the sound coming from the sound system. The connection to TV via the ARC is also very good. The HEOS app on my smartphone is very good for listening to music from Pandora, via wifi, on the receiver. I am very pleased with this receiver as an addition to my home sound system.

Let me preface this by saying I am using this in preamp mode. I am running a 7 ch power amp to my speakers. I was looking for a receiver with a complete set of preamp outs that could handle all methods of decoding thru the ARC input. After reviewing several models from several brands this had everything I was looking for. The set up was easy using the audessy software and after a few tweeks this sounds amazing. As of right now I running into a 4K set but its nice to know how future proof this is. I originally wanted to keep the price under $1000.oo but was unable to find the features I needed. I am very pleased with this receiver. If your not sure go online and start reading the many positive reviews.

The X3700 is a superb AVR for its price point. It has plenty of power to drive its 9.2 speaker capability. It uses Audyssey MultiEQ audio room configuration, one of the best systems out there. It's HDMI inputs are all the latest 2.3 standard so it will be 8K capable if and when that becomes a viable standard. If you have a 5.1 speaker system, the X3700 can use its Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization or DTS Virtual:X systems to simulate a more expansive speaker system. Two features that really attracted me were the Bluetooth headphone capability and, especially, the ability to internally save two different speaker/room correction configurations. All and all if you're looking for a 9.2 AVR at a reasonable price point, you can't go wrong with Denon's X3700.

Replaced an aging Pioneer Elite SC-25 that's subwoofer LFE output no longer worked. After some research decided to come back to Denon. I primarily use this for movie watching and wanted the latest Dolby Atmos and DTS:x. I will be moving my set-up to a new room in the fall and will install height speakers then. In the meantime, I can say the Audyssey speaker calibration and system optimization did an amazing job in locking in the sound for my 7.2 system. Even though the power was a little less than my previous receiver I detected no difference and in fact this receiver rocked the house. To my ears everything sounded better than before watching films. Terrific in every way.

This receiver is really the 3rd Denon receiver "received." I wanted the latest "8K" capable receiver to upgrade my gaming set up. The first "attempt" was the next level up (x4700H) purchased elsewhere. For some reason that receiver would not hold set up data and worse once I lost my setup criteria, the set up did not work! Corrupted firmware? Don't know but back it went for refund (was not given an exchange option). The second receiver was purchased at BB online for delivery. This one was the X3700 which spec-wise was more than capable for my set up. When I got it, hooked everything up, hit the power button and heard a loud pop. At that point there was tremendous humming and feedback coming from receiver. Boxed back up and off to nearest BB to return it. Gotta say the customer service rep understood completely. I decided to give it one more try and after credit for return, ordered another x3700 (with 5 year GS protection). Like the title says, the third time's the charm. This time everything was fine with the set up and the receiver has been operating without an issue for the last several weeks. I am very familiar with Denon receivers so set up was straight-forward and rather easy for me. My gaming rig includes a DIY desktop (I7-8700K, RTX 2060 Super, 1TB SDD), XBOX Series X, Samsung QLED S900R 8K TV with updated one connect box. and a 5.1.2 speaker set up that can handle the output from the receiver. Thanks to the HDMI 2.1 issue that has been extensively documented with all the 8K receivers, I connected my Series X directly to the TV's 1 HDMI 2.1 port (why only 1 on this one connect box is beyond me), my desktop's HDMI output to the receiver's 8K HDMI input, and the receiver's EARC output to the TV's ARC input. This all actually works very well. The XBOX recognizes the HDMI 2.1 port as such, and audio from both desktop and XBOX sounds great using ARC. The only issue that I have had is that if I set audio to bit stream in the XBOX, there is a notable audio delay which is very irritating. Who knows what is at fault with that. I reset audio to PCM and ATMOS enabled and receiver audio to DTS + surround and audio sounds great (had to do the same on TV). This set up works very well for me and I am more than satisfied with the 3rd receiver which actually works. I think the other 2 were just bad luck. Thank goodness I only live 30 minutes from a BB store. I rated at 4 stars vs 5 stars for the following reasons: -- possibly responsible for the bit stream audio delay, -- the HDMI 2.1 disconnect with the XBOX (who knows who is actually at fault with that (chip maker, Denon, or XBOX?) -- nothing is perfect. Not sure whether or not I will get an RTX 30 series GPU (probably a 3060 ti) for my desktop, but right now I can output FHD (1080P) at higher frame rates and the receiver will upscale to 8K. I also stream (NetFlix, etc.) and with the ARC setup, audio is great. I do not, however, use HEOS, bluetooth, the FM or AM functions, or even internet radio (although it sounded nice on network set up) so I cannot comment on those. Bottom line is that this works well for me, glad I got the receiver, and overall recommend it.

I have owned several Denon tuners, amplifiers, and receivers over the years and have always been very happy with them. I have been using a Denon AVR-X4000 receiver installed in a media closet to feed two TVs (den and living room). This only provides surround sound in one room, so after buying a new OLED TV for the den, I decided to add a surround sound in that room with a second receiver. I wanted to stick with Denon because of positive experiences with the brand and their excellent network protocol for easy control over my home network. I usw custom software on iPads to control my TVs and media devices, and the Denon IP interface is the best I’ve used. I considered a lower-priced Denon unit, but I wanted one with dual-room outputs for maximum flexibility. The AVR-X3700H was the lowest priced option with that feature so I chose it. Comparing it to my existing AVR-X4000, it’s nearly identical. The two units are the same size and construction, and the front and rear panels share the same basic layout. The user interface is also the same. Being familiar with all of this, setup was quick and easy. Using the included microphone for AUDYSSEY setup really improves the sound, tailoring it to the room’s acoustic qualities. I have all of my media sources connected to the AVR-X3700H and it feeds the new OLED TV in the den. I use its 2nd room output to feed the AVR-X4000 so that both TVs in the den and living room can share among media sources. So far, I am very satisfied with the AVR-X3700H. The sound and video quality are excellent, and it handles all of my sources with seven HDMI 2.1 ports supporting the latest HDR formats and HDCP 2.3, plus Bluetooth audio input and Internet audio. One thing to note is that unlike the AVR-X4000, this receiver does not convert analog input sources to the HDMI outputs. I normally don’t use any analog sources, but I did try to connect an VCR to play some old home movies and that won’t work. Also, I have an issue with a hum on my subwoofer when I connect its amplifier to the AVR-X3700X’s 12v trigger output. This has not been a problem when it was connected to the AVR-X4000. I tried grounding the units together, but that did not work, so I just leave the subwoofer amp in “auto” mode. Because of those two shortcoming, and the high price to step up form a single room model,I give this receiver 4 out of 5 stars. If it’s like any other Denon equipment I’ve owned, it should give me years of home theater service, and I do recommend it.

SUPER easy set up and really intuitive command and remote. The on-screen prompts walk you through every step, even how to wire your speakers. One issue though, the Audessy speaker calibration stall out when tryin to set up my sub (first speaker to test). I set the distances manually and moved on. Doesn't resolve "room" acoustics though. Full disclosure as I got this after being so frustrated with the (highly lauded) Yamaha RX-V6A which had high hurdles to understand how all the complex sound options integrated and, as a biggie for me, the lack of a physical button to select inputs. The Denon is SO much simplar. Aside from the speaker set up (hence only 4 stars), a hugh thumbs up from me. Sound and video top notch
