Speakers were great trust me these thangs bumped but couldn’t get over the fact to however I connected them audio would lag horrible I would see lip movements and then hear sound 5 secs later tried on multiple devices Sony A8H and Alienware m17 and had issues with both.
Hello, we are sorry to hear the Home 150 did not work for you. I do want to point out that Bluetooth is best used for music streaming. Using Bluetooth for Video streaming can often result in lip sync issues. For more information, please reach out to our product support team. Love the flexibility it provides. Can have it play the sound of what is on the tv in another room if I want or play music through it instead. Would like more but they are pricey.

The Denon Home 150 Wireless Speaker is a mono speaker with quality you would expect from Denon. The speaker is about the size of a coffee can, square with rounded edges and fabric covered on three sides, a panel up top with various touch controls (which are lights up when you activate the proximity sensor). The speaker consists of a one inch tweeter and a 3.5” bass driver with a pretty beefy magnet. On the back panel there is a connect button, Ethernet jack, USB plug, Aux in, Bluetooth connect button and a place to attach the power cord. Note on the last item, it does require power and cannot operate without being plugged in to AC power. There are a plethora connectivity options, including Bluetooth and WIFI – along with an ethernet jack. The unit also is compatible with Airplay 2 for connectivity to Apple Devices. The speaker direct connects to various music services, some of which offer high resolution sound. In addition, the unit also has the ability play and stream audio files from a USB drive you plug into the back of the unit. I found this capability interesting as it essentially makes the unit a little audio media server able to stream to DLNA clients (audio receivers, smart TVs and the VLC Player app I have on my AppleTV). I was also able to stream content from my Network Attached Storage (NAS). Really impressed with the capabilities and file formats it is able to play back including hi res FLAC audio files.
For a techno nerd like me, exploring the 98 page owner’s manual truly revealed all the capabilities of this device (unfair to just call in a speaker).
Now, to cut to the chase, all these features are great, but if the speaker does not excel in producing quality sound then the rest of it does not really matter. The sound is a bit punchy, bass heavy as others have commented, however in the HEOS app there are a few options you can use to tune the sound more to your liking, including a bass and treble EQ control. Frankly I would really like to see some more granular controls, however they suffice. There are some key settings which are buried in the mobile app which I did find made subtle differences in how the speaker sounded. One was “Speaker Placement” which had an impact on how “boomy” the speaker sounded and changed the emphasis on the low end response. Another was adjusting the Audio Quality from the default “Normal” setting to the high setting. This really seemed to bump up the audio reproduction, especially when playing high res formats. I can only conclude that at a high setting the network bandwidth usage of the device increases, which produce more dropouts, however I did not experience that issue.
The HEOS mobile app (iOS version tested) leaves a little to be desired, the menu system is a bit convoluted, and it encourages you to setup an account with Denon, so you can easily access all your streaming music services (after you provide login credentials), not sure about providing this type of info. I did use the Spotify app to direct connect to this speaker without an issue.
As for installation and setup, initially I had some issues with connecting to my local WIFI network. I had to try several times and had to reset the speaker back to factory settings. The speaker also received about 3 successive software updates which took about 10 minutes each to apply (not sure why you could not just jump to the most current version).
In conclusion, there was a lot to write about regarding this speaker, I didn’t even touch on the ability of this device to interact with the rest of the Denon ecosystem or the added voice assistant capabilities which came with later software updates. This is really an audiophile’s dream smart speaker and has a bit of everything, just seems you really need to be a tech nerd to fully realize the potential of the device, performance is not out of the box, it requires some tweaking, and this is a perfect case of “read the freaking manual”.
Pros:
- Audiophile level sound
- Plethora of connectivity options
- Support for High resolution audio services and files
- Built in media server that can be used to stream audio content to DLNA clients.
- USB plug
Cons,
- HEOS mobile app is a bit convoluted.
- A bit bass heavy out of the box (can be adjusted)
- Requires AC power, not meant to be portable

Where do I begin? Honestly, there are so many features that this speaker (and the HEOS app) provide that it's a little daunting trying to even start a review.
I own a Marantz preamp/processor that includes the HEOS app and I have loved it since tried it on my main system. And now to find it on a quality standalone, streaming speaker (calling it a Bluetooth speaker just doesn't do it even the smallest justice) is a very welcome addition to my home system.
The speaker itself is a really nice size. Squarish and about 7 ½” tall. It's wrapped with a nice speaker cloth. It looks at home in a variety of locations. The sound is clean and able to fill a good sized room with plenty of volume. I find it offers a pretty flat response, meaning that it doesn't have over driven bass, or annoying tinny highs. It's very well balanced. You can extend the bass and treble through the HEOS app if you choose. As far as connections go, if you can imagine it, it's included. WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet connection, 3.5mm stereo audio cable, and even a USB port for playing music directly from a memory device. I don't think they've left anything out.
The top of the speaker is a dark plastic, but when your hand is close to it, the controls illuminate. Very cool. You can use the local controls to play music from saved sources. It has volume controls and transport controls. You can do any of this from the HEOS app, but if you just want to make a quick adjustment or skip tracks, it works very nice.
I've mentioned HEOS quite a bit and it's really the unsung part of what you get when you buy this speaker. HEOS is an app that you can download for free to your phone, tablet, etc.. It's how you interact with all the devices you own that are HEOS enabled. It includes all Denon components, and as I've already indicated, Marantz (and a few others). It is hands down the best “interconnect” app I've ever used, and I've tried a lot of them from the Google Play store as well the Onkyo offering. Many apps claim they are able to take care of all your streaming desires, but they all fall far short of mine. This app just works. That's the biggest and most important point I can make. It's solid, it runs well, it doesn't forget where it is if your phone goes to sleep, it has a huge amount of connection possibilities like streaming apps and NAS ability. And did I say I say it just works! It's never hung up on my, plays smoothly and is just plain intuitive. Everything works like you would want it to. I can't say enough about it. If you're frustrated with other streaming experiences, you have to give this one a try, you won't be disappointed.
I didn't even mention one of the coolest aspects of using a HEOS system. If you have other HEOS enabled devices, you're able to open the HEOS app and select all your individual components to play different music to, at the same time, in different rooms and all from the phone in your hand. If that's not enough, you can also group all your devices together and play the same music to all of them. This is great for listening to music through your entire house or for parties. But wait there's more! You can group your devices any way you want to and play different music to each group! Not impressed yet? You can put two 150's in one room and have them play in stereo mode! The options and possibilities are almost endless. If you can think of a way you want to use HEOS, you can do it.
I can't say enough about the speaker and it's app. I've been sold on HEOS for quite a while so when I heard about the 150 (or 250 and 350) I couldn't wait to try it out, and it is COOL! I'm a very picky customer, and I expect apps to be intuitive, friendly and offer huge numbers of features. And I expect that it shouldn't be hard to have great sound in any room you want and connect them all together in a seamless way. Denon has delivered big time!

I have had this for a few weeks and specifically got to use outside next to the pool. It sounds great, is definitely loud, and looks sleek. I have an Android phone and after a quick download of the HEOS app from the play store I was connected and going.
I use primarily Amazon Music and it worked without an issue. I didn't see anywhere in the instructions how to assign the favorites. Adding a station from the HEOS app to a favorite DID NOT assign to the favorite button on the actual speaker. After I started playing the station I wanted I just had to hold the favorite number down on the speaker I wanted it assigned to and after about 3 seconds the blue light on the front flashed a couple times and it was assigned.
This was a major feature for me I wanted in this speaker. I didn't want to have to find my phone to play a few of my favorite stations from Amazon Music. I have 3 of the most played stations now assigned for both myself and the kids to easily play music now while outside enjoying the pool.
Overall I have been very happy with the look and quality of the speaker. The only gripe is that it only has the ability for 3 favorites but other than that I am very happy. It has the ability to play music also from a USB but I haven't tried or needed that. With so many music streaming options I don't see a need for that but it is there if you want it. It also has a place on the back if you choose to mount it on a wall as well.

First I have to say that I like this speaker very much. Build quality is superbly done. Very solid with some heft plus the addition of the top glass touch panel with a built in proximity sensor. All is great there.
Now for the sound, the reason I gave this higher end branded speaker a 4 star rating is because the sound lacks a decent amount of mid range. This has to do with my personal preference not a knock on denon. While this speaker has amazing (I mean amazing) highs and super thick bass. I feel it’s missing the mid range vocal clarity I look for. Also I noticed you have to raise the volume past the 50% mark to get good enough sound output. Not surprising as most speakers are designed like this. I’d like to say that if you LOVE bass and have a big house and not an apt. Then you will love this speaker. I had to turn the bass down all they way. Even then it really hits the low notes very well. I hope either denon can send an update or when they release the next generation of this speaker. They focus on boosting the mid range just a bit.
So now let’s focus on the other aspects such as the HEOS app and airplay2 functionality. I use both for several reasons I will get into those reasons shortly. The HEOS app is overall great. From the design (main screen) looks nice, clean and sharp. Set up is easy as well. Linking speakers and pairing is a breeze(I have this and the 350). I chose to update out of the box. Took a while but that’s how I do things. Keep that in mind. The app allows you to choose from literally every streaming service you can think of. I mainly use TIDAL Hifi. The only real issue I have with using tidal through the HEOS app versus airplay(kinda) is through HEOS while searching, it does not auto fill suggestions or save searches. So you have to research everything. But you can save music to your queue. And the last played song is remembered. So that’s a good trade off. I did have an issue using airplay straight from the tidal app. There was a 1-3 delay before the sound would play. Though I have to mention it might be this new WiFi router I just recently purchased. I did have some issues. So it may not be the airplay2 on the speaker.
All In all, this is a great speaker mono set up or not. I really do like it for my bed room. I also have the 350 sitting in my living room and using the multi room feature works great and you don’t notice the minor gripes I have with the lack of vocals on this smaller brother or sister to my denon home 350. I do plan on buying another denon home 150 to run 2 of these in stereo. That I am even more excited about.
This is a definite recommendation. Denon did great with these home speakers.

So, I don't use voice assistants, so I won't be reviewing this feature, though I understand the Denon Home 150 works well with Alexa, Siri, etc. What I care about is sound. When I first connected to the Home 150 I was disappointed. The sound was muddy and definitely not what I was expecting from Denon. It wasn't until I increased treble that the sound cleared up and...now I understand why Denon has such a good reputation. The sound from this small little speaker is phenomenal! It it crisp and full. It has enough volume to fill a 20' by 25' room quite well. With a room full of people you're probably going to want to get the Home 250, or 350, though.
And I like the HEOS app. It makes it easy to select your sound source in one location. My only gripe is that I would like to see more options in the equalizer than just treble and bass.

I wanted a better streaming speaker for my COVID-19 home office workspace than my current bluetooth speaker, saw this Denon and thought I'd give it a try. I already own a Sonos setup for our TV (Sonos Beam + Sub + two Sonos One speakers), so I was curious to see how the Denon Home 150 would compare to the Sonos.
Physically, the Home 150 is very similar to a Sonos One or One SL. They're about the same size and look similar. The Home 150 has a good, solid, weighty feel - feels like quality construction which you would expect at this price point and from Denon.
You need to download the Denon HEOS app in order to set things up - In function, it's very similar to the Sonos app - So far I can't say that I have a preference for either one over the other. The Sonos app and HEOS app both function essentially the same, I am on the fence as to which I prefer. There were a few hiccoughs getting the Home 150 connected - No problem detecting it from the app, but it took several tried to get the speaker connected to my WiFi network. Finally I unplugged the speaker and plugged it back in and then it found the network correctly. To be fair, I had a few hitches getting my Sonos system fully set up as well and have had some issues recently when the Sonos app updated. Once on the network, I have had no issues with HEOS connectivity to the speaker.
Setting up streaming stations in the HEOS app was not difficult at all; you do have to set up a HEOS account but this is no different from Sonos. I primarily stream from TuneIn Radio, SiriusXM and Amazon Music, and those all performed flawlessly.
Sound is good from the speaker; I am not an audiophile but to my ear it sounds really nice. Better than Sonos? I can't really tell. I think 90% of listeners would say both are very good. From reading online, I know that many true audiophiles look down on Sonos (much like Bose), but for me the sound is very good. The HEOS app provides the ability to tune the bass response of the speaker by describing how close to a wall or corned the speaker sits. I tweaked these, and there is a noticeable difference in the bass output at the different settings.
There are a few advantages the Home 150 has over a Sonos One speaker. First, there are audio inputs for AUX and USB. I don't really have use for AUX, but it's pretty nifty that you have the option. I have a fair amount of music ripped from old CD's to MP3's, so it's nice that I can load those files to a USB stick and play them through the Home 150 - You can select and play tracks using the HEOS app. Sonos doesn't give you this option.
Also, there are three virtual buttons on top of the Home 150 that can be programmed for different functions. You can save a streaming radio station, and then play it by selecting the button even if you don't have your HEOS app running - very convenient! You can also set the virtual button to switch inputs to the AUX or USB wihout the app. There are also Play/Pause and Volume buttons on the top of the Home 150 (the Sonos One offers those as well).
The Home 150 also supports Apple AirPlay2 – I’ve tested this out and it works great! Sonos supports AirPlay2 also, but it seems a little more stable on the Home 150. I’m not sure if this is because I only have the single Home 150 speaker, and have a Sonos system with multiple speakers.
The Home 150 can also be wall-mounted, though I haven't tried that. It also offers Alexa integration (like Sonos One), but I don't use Alexa on my Sonos out of privacy conerns so I didn't test it with the Home 150 either.
In summary - Is the Home 150 better than a Sonos One? From a sound quality perspective, to me they are both very good. My ear is not good enought to choose between them based on sound. From an input perspective, the Home 150 has better options with the AUX and USB inputs, and the virtual programmable buttons on top. Currently, the Home 150 is $50-70 more expensive than a Sonos One/One SL, so you have to decide if those features are worth it for you. I initially bought my Sonos speakers to create a simple surround-sound system for our main TV, and it's not clear to me I could build the same system for the same price from the Denon HEOS line. They do offer a soundbar but as far as I can tell not a wireless sub to go with it. So for a simple surround-sound TV solution I would still lean towards Sonos, but if you are just creating a wireless multi-room music system this Denon speaker is a great starting point. Also, if you are more of an audiophile you may want to go Denon because there is a much larger ecosystem of Denon audio components (true audio systems) that can tie into HEOS.

Denon is an excellent name in audio and this speaker does not disappoint.
At the top of the speaker there is a volume up and down, fast forward and 3 presets so that you can program your favorite channels. There is a hand sensor on the top which lights up the controls when you move your hand over it and it darkens when you move your hand away. Nice unique touch!
On the back of the speaker there is a Connect button, Network port (for using an Ethernet cable to directly hook into your router), USB port (I use this to charge my phone), Auxiliary In port, Bluetooth button and a screw mount so you can put this speaker on a stand, if you like.
Setup was a breeze. Follow the directions in the Quick Start Guide included and then follow the directions on your mobile device or tablet after you download the HEOS app (see about HEOS app below). Directions are very simple and straight forward.
I can hear a big difference in the sound when playing music I ripped from my old CDs and listening to the same song on HDR streaming services…what can I say but EXCEPTIONAL. I thought I had good high-end speakers before, but after hearing music on the Denon HEOS speaker, I can honestly say I have never heard music so crystal clear coming from one small speaker.
With the HEOS software, you can connect to many different music streaming services. I recommend HDR streaming for the exceptional sound. Combining all streaming services on one app is great because you have them all right in one spot. With this app, even your music on your phone is in the same place with all the streaming services.
One minor problem I did have with the app is that I was unable to get the app to recognize the speaker after not having used it for awhile after the first time I used it with no problem. It was no big deal because I simply turned off my phone and started the app again and it worked fine. Just a heads up in case it happens to you.
I am looking forward to getting another speaker, as these have multi-room capability. You can sync together many and have music throughout the house.
At times I do like my music loud and this speaker did not distort at 80% volume. After 80% toward 90% the bass sounded a little distorted, but the vocals were still clear. On other speakers I’ve used it is sometimes hard to understand the vocals, but with this speaker they were loud and crystal clear. You can actually hear music notes that you never knew were even there in your favorite songs. It is more like a LIVE performance than listening to a station. It’s like you have front row seats at a concert.

This speaker is AWESOME! The setup after downloading the app from the Android play store of the speaker initially took a few tries as my WiFi for some odd reason would not recognize it in order to make a connection. As a result, I added the app on 3 phones in which my Sony Experia made the WiFi connection and from there I successfully connected everything. After the connection, there were 2 firmware updates, one of which I successfully updated. I waited a day then updated the second firmware.
I love the design of the app as it hosts various music streaming services such as Amazon Music, Deezer, Spotify, Pandora, Napster, SiriusXM, Tidal, Sound Cloud, Rhapsody, USB, your phone’s music. Suffice to say, their strategy to meet users’ needs was well thought out! There is an account set up to HEOS and from there, another one-time setup to your music streaming services is required.
I do not claim to be an audiophile; but, I can say the sound and bass from this speaker is amazing as it produces a distinct listening experience. I have Pandora, Amazon Music and Spotify. Pandora is my go-to music app as I am a huge fan of music from the 80’s. This device offers me an amazing experience when listening to music from that era. I have larger Bluetooth speakers; however, I do not get the punch that this Denon speaker offers as it packed with 150 watts!
Overall, I am extremely pleased with this speaker from design, aesthetics, ease of usage down to listening experience. This is my first Denon product and without hesitation, I can say their product matches up to the bigger names effortlessly.

I wanted to try out how well this little speaker worked. I have tried other bluetooth speakers and have larger ones but wanted to see if the notion of good things come in small packages come out true when it comes to audio.
The packaging is super simple and minimal. A quick start guide and the normal safety documentation as well as the power cord to the speaker. You have the option of plugging in an ethernet cord if you do not have a wifi connection, which is neat in this day in age. But this can also connect via bluetooth as well as through the app/wifi. Using the app was super simple. Pretty much like adding any smart device through a app like any smart device. It's simple and it works well. No problems and was set up in about 5 minutes, depending on the speed of your connection. I used it via wifi and bluetooth. There is an option to plug in AUX connection, but I haven't tested that part out. I was more interested in the app functionality and also bluetooth.
I first used the app which have a myriad of services to connect to. Pandora, Amazon music, Spotify and Napster among the few. I used Spotify as my default service and tested out some tunes. It sounded pretty good and can fill my master bedroom pretty well in my opinion. I then tried via bluetooth and to connect to that, there is no real instructions, but like any other audio device, you just press the bluetooth button towards the bottom of the unit for about 3-5 seconds until it flashes and then you have it in discovery mode and you can connect it to you phone or laptop if you choose to. The audio was good as well and could not really tell the difference The music sounded good. I say good because there is no equalizer functionality in this. So you get what the audio has and no setting that I could see to tweak it. No big deal, but it would have been nice.
On the top of the device there there are six touch sensitive buttons. They are not haptic but they work really well though. Top three are connection presets numbered 1 through 3. And you can choose to use these as quick settings to quickly change the way you connect and what to connect to. The bottom three areas are the play/pause and volume buttons.
What do I like about it? It has a small foot print, has multiple connectivity ports on the back to connect to different devices and you are not tied to a service or the app. The sound is pretty decent minus the lack of equalizer. The quick settings work super fast and the touch areas work fantatically.
What I don't like about it is the lack of equalizer functionality. Also the LED is pretty bright at night. I wish there was a way to turn that off. Also what I do not like is that you cannot use this as a sort of soundbar for your laptop or phone when viewing videos. There is a large lag time when viewing videos. Music is the bread and butter here. I really wanted this to work for videos, but oh well.
Is this device worth it? I think for the Android platfom, it is ok but I think if you work on the Apple iOS ecosystem you may get more of ouf this unit. It is good and I do like it, but my television's soundbar sounds way better than this unit. It's good to play some music from your laptop or phone but that's it. Only if it could be used for video!! Oh well you can't have everything right? LOL. All in all, this is very capable speaker and his one unit does pack quite a punch. Only if it had an equalizer!!

This is such a powerful speaker that it blows my mind. That is my main takeaway from this whole experience with Denon’s Home 150. It sounds so amazing and can fill up a large room for the size that it is. The Bass within the speaker is extremely boomy and there is a TON of mordant features you are going to love.
The design of the speaker is really elegant and it doesn’t stand out too much or out of place. It will be nice to have multiple Home 150’s set up in the house like a kitchen or a hallway. Touch-sensitive buttons are cool and light up when you tap them. This is not a wireless portable speaker at all. Once you set it up it must be near a plug to always receive power., You can't charge it up and take it with you there is no battery in here. On the back, there are also useful I/O. Ethernet port, USB 2.0 Port, AUX, Connect button, and a Bluetooth button. There are many ways to connect your music if need be which is great.
Setup was basically as easy as plugging it in. It basically works from there with the quick start guide. It really is a painless setup. if you don’t wanna go through the hassle of the HEOS app, many other features here you can use without the app like Bluetooth and AirPlay 2. The shining feature here would be AirPlay 2 with the Home 150 or any speaker from this series. You’re not just limited to some AirPlay speakers anymore and this is great; I’m happy that manufacturers are embracing AirPlay 2. It really does opens up the world of possibilities. I was able to connect my Bose SoundTouch 300, my Samsung TV, and Sonos Move to the Home 150 speakers. I have different brands connect to my iOS devices/iTunes was awesome. (Apple TV can connect to a multi-sound AirPlay 2 setup. Great for video apps.) Apple Music works fine.
The experience was a jaw-dropping sound that I could never imagine would be in my home. Everything was seamless with the volume connecting through airplay. Just my words mean anything I just want to say that Denon never disappointed me with sound before, this is no exception. but to have something this small, mighty, and dense with sound. I can’t rave about it enough. Bass I can’t stress enough that it’s strong, the sound is so clear and crisp. Oh, the best part here is that you can list to HI-FI MUSIC from Amazon Music HD, Deezer, and Tidal. The music streaming such high-quality, that I’ve heard a sound like this in a while and it's quite enjoyable. This little speaker goes toe to toe with some even bigger and overpriced speakers which is why I love turning it on and using itit. Turning the speaker up to the max is completely unnecessary but it just sounds so good. It gives me that sound and bass I enjoy.
HEOS app that’s what you need to download from the App Store to be able to use even more features that the speaker provides. You must make an account to use any other services like Spotify, Amazon Music, Tidal, Sirius XM, Pandora, and more. Yeah runs great and it’s intelligently designed so no issues there. You can access the USB and AUX remotely with the phone. For NAS users you can access your home music servers. PERFECT!
If you can possibly hook this up to more Denon speakers like the Home 350 or the Home 150, I promise you won’t regret a multispeaker setup with AirPlay 2. When it comes to sound I’m not disappointed at all this is definitely a five-star product, because it just worked perfectly for me. I just can’t get over how great it sounds when is connected to multiple speakers.

If you’re reading this you probably just want to know a reason you shouldn’t buy this and I can only think of two: 1) I assume the more expensive next model up sounds significantly better and 2) you really, really want to have voice activated controls.
Otherwise, I’m really, really impressed by the functionality and versatility of the Denon 150. I like the sound - a lot. I have a Belkin speaker in this price range that I maybe prefer here and there, but the Denon wins hands down in its overall capabilities. For once, here’s a product that ships with a good app! I know, right?! It doesn’t look like a great app, necessarily. At least not one from 2021. But it works and works well, and more importantly does something that I did not realize I was missing in my life. This app - and the speaker itself - consolidates your multitude of music options in a really great, user friendly way. The music tab on the app allows you to log into Spotify, Amazon Music, pandora, SiriusXM, iHeartRadio, music servers, USB attached storage, NAS drives and more, and then access all of it right there in one central spot. I’m telling you, in some ways using this app to access Sirius is easier than using their own app. No joke. Even better you can favorite stations across ALL of these services onto one list and access them in a snap. On the speaker itself, there are three touch enabled “buttons” for saving presets. I straight up had no idea how much I would enjoy this. If you have children, this is especially useful. I have one kids station, one sports talk, and one music station saved to those three spots. With one quick tap I’m in business. I don’t have to turn the speaker on, I don’t have to talk to it, I don’t have to open my phone - I can just get to the thing I want to listen to in a way that an infant can operate. You can even assign an input to one of these three buttons! So cool.
And speaking of, I’ve played FLAC files from a USB stick, plugged in an MP3 player via 3.5mm jack, and thrown Apple Music, podcasts, files from a server and more via AirPlay and it all works without not only missing a beat, but there was nothing else to it whatsoever. (I tried one hard drive that was formatted incorrectly, so check Denon’s site for very clear specifications about this if you’re concerned.) If you plug something into the USB it shows up in the USB input part of the Music tab. Full folder access and artwork with zero issues. If you activate the speaker by first downloading and using the app on an iOS device then you never have to pair it again or with any of your other Apple devices. It just shows up in the AirPlay options. It all works. And when you need to do a quick pause or volume adjustment, you can always reach for the speaker itself and find those cool light up buttons to do what you need to do. I think Denon just really hit the experience out of the park. Instead of saying there’s one predominant way to use this speaker it’s like they really chose to focus on just making it easy for the individual listener to access to ALL of the ways they might use this speaker. It’s a really smart choice and one I think, again, serious music fans will appreciate.
Unless they don’t like the sound. That’s subjective. I listened to Hi Res stuff on this and it sounds really good - as long as the track itself sounds good. And I found that to be true with really everything I played. As obvious as it seems, the better sounding (and I mean production-wise, mostly) the track you play, the better it will sound on this speaker. This is not one of those audio experiences where it tries to make even inferior stuff sound significantly better. If the track sounds like garbage to begin with it’s going to be very noticeable on this speaker, in my experience. Same goes for spoken word stuff. Some podcasts sound noticeably better than others, ditto some of the talk stations on SiriusXM.
Finally, I have other speakers that have built in Google Assistant and Alexa. I like them. It’s a nice option. But half the time I still end up just sending stuff from phone to the speaker, primarily because there are times when those smart assistants just do not “hear” you correctly. While it does feel like including one of these is inevitably something Denon will do with this line of speakers… it’s really not something I miss at the moment. And, frankly, it’s kind of nice knowing the thing isn’t listening to me. I’m just listening to it.
