Very good home wireless speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Denon Home 200 ended up being one of those speakers that immediately feels more substantial than most wireless smart speakers the second you start using it. Denon clearly approached this from a traditional audio background first, and that comes across pretty quickly in both the sound and the overall build quality. It doesn’t feel like a voice assistant trying to play music. It feels like an actual speaker system that just happens to have smart features built into it. I’m a Denon fan (use their amps in two of my setups at home), so I was genuinely curious about how their speakers would sound in this new Home lineup. The setup process was surprisingly painless. The HEOS app guided everything quickly, the speaker connected without any weird troubleshooting, and within a few minutes, I was up and running. That simplicity honestly matters a lot with products like this because plenty of ecosystem-focused speakers still somehow make the onboarding process feel overly technical. HEOS stayed pretty straightforward throughout, and once everything was connected, it integrated nicely into the larger Denon ecosystem. Sound quality is really where the Home 200 separates itself. The speaker throws a much larger soundstage than I expected for something this size. Music feels wider, taller, and more open than a lot of competing wireless speakers, especially with vocals and live recordings. There’s also a richness to the tuning that makes it easy to listen to for long periods without sounding overly bright or artificial. Bass has good weight to it without becoming muddy, and the speaker still keeps decent separation even once the volume starts climbing. The only thing I will say is that the HEOS gives different options as far as the EQ, and I think the standard Denon sound will be the most used due to more emphasis on the lows rather than a balanced approach. I also like how you could change the position of the audio in the app (as far as placement goes). The build quality also deserves some credit because the entire speaker feels dense and premium. The fabric wrap, touch controls, and overall finish all feel well put together. It has more of that “real home audio product” feel rather than the lightweight plastic feel a lot of smart speakers still have at this price point. The only part of the experience that occasionally became frustrating was device management and playback control. Swapping between devices and managing volume through Spotify versus HEOS sometimes felt a little clunky, especially if multiple devices were involved. Nothing deal-breaking, but enough moments where I noticed the software side still isn’t quite as seamless as some competing ecosystems, being a Spotify-heavy user myself. Still, once music actually starts playing, most of those complaints disappear pretty quickly. The Denon Home 200 sounds mature, balanced, and far bigger than it looks. It feels like Denon focused on making a genuinely good-sounding wireless speaker first, while still keeping the smart features accessible and easy to use, and honestly, that balance is what makes it work so well overall.

Good Speaker but the App needs more options.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you’re looking for a smaller, more compact wireless speaker that still delivers impressive sound, the Denon 200 is worth considering. It’s the entry-level option in Denon’s HEOS lineup, but don’t let its size fool you—it’s capable of producing clear, rich audio that’s perfect for bedrooms, kitchens, or smaller living spaces. Setup is extremely simple. Just plug it in, download the HEOS app, and follow the step-by-step prompts. Make sure your phone and speaker are on the same Wi-Fi network. The app allows you to manage your favorite music services, create a list of favorite stations, and even discover new music, although the “New Music” section could use more frequent updates. Like the Denon 400, the app doesn’t offer a full equalizer—just two sound presets—so if you love tweaking every frequency, the customization is limited. One limitation to be aware of: if you use Google services like YouTube Music, the Denon 200 won’t support them. Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, and Amazon Music work fine. Siri support is listed, but I use Android and couldn’t test it. Built-in Google Assistant or Alexa would have been a nice addition for hands-free music playback. Sound quality is surprisingly good for a smaller speaker. The bass is tighter and less boomy than larger models, but still present enough to give your music depth. Mids are clear and vocals sound natural and detailed—podcasts, audiobooks, and voices in songs come alive. While it can’t fill a very large room like the 400 or 600, it’s perfect for smaller spaces and even pairs well with other Denon speakers for multi-room setups. Multi-room functionality works smoothly. I connected the Denon 200 with a 400, and the pairing was seamless. It’s easy to expand your HEOS system over time. In summary, the Denon 200 is an excellent compact wireless speaker for those who want rich, clear sound in a smaller package. Setup is easy, the HEOS app is functional (though could be improved), and the multi-room capabilities are a bonus. While it may not be ideal for Google service users or for those wanting extreme bass, it delivers great sound quality at a reasonable price and is a solid entry point into Denon’s HEOS ecosystem.

Sounds Good, Costs More
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Denon HOME 200 ends up in an interesting spot for me. After spending time with the HOME 400, I’m definitely comparing the two, and while the HOME 200 still sounds very good, it doesn’t quite deliver the same “wow” factor once you start looking at the price versus performance. That said, this is still a quality speaker that does a lot right. First off, setup was smooth and painless… same as the 400 and as expected. Connecting the speaker, getting it on Wi-Fi, and linking Spotify was straightforward, and once everything was up and running, playback was stable and responsive. Spotify integration worked great for me throughout testing, which honestly matters more than fancy features if you use streaming daily. If you can’t stream… nothing else matters. As for sound quality, the HOME 200 still hits the mark, just maybe not a bullseye. Music comes through clean with solid bass response and good clarity overall, especially for its size. It can fill a room better than many compact wireless speakers. The issue is more about value. The HOME 400 feels like it justifies its price tag with bigger sound. The HOME 200 still performs well, but at this price point, I expected a little more separation and depth compared to competing speakers. One thing that may matter to some buyers is smart assistant support. I have a funky mix of Google and Apple going on, so I guess maybe I’m just used to some hiccups? HOME uses Siri, which wasn’t much of a downside for me personally, but I can absolutely see how the weaker Google or Alexa integration could frustrate people who rely heavily on those in their ecosystem. Overall, the Denon HOME 200 is still an easy speaker to like. Good sound, reliable streaming through HEOS and Spotify, and a clean setup experience keep it at the four star mark. It just sits a little too close to premium pricing without completely matching the premium experience of the 400.

Total Package - Ecosystem, Sound and Functionality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These new Denon wireless speaker systems are insane. Ive never before had such an easy setup, great sound and flexibility of something like this. Normally you need a receiver, wires, huge hours long setup ive done many many times in the past and then the payoff is using it which may be buttons, switches, separate remotes, knobs, more wires lol. This 200 speaker is just next level compared to all that. All that is gone with these things and that in itself is amazing but obviously the sound is what matters here at the end of the day it is a speaker. The speaker is god tier sound from every source ive been trying out. The fact that you simply turn it on and connect it to your network and you’re able to basically play audio from any source is something ive never had before. Playing music from my phone while doing chores, playing from my Apple TV at night, playing from my MacBook or even my gaming laptop while playing a game making maximum immersion even. You name it and you can do it with this thing and it sounds so so good. This actually brings up another point I got the 400 and 200 speakers and when I was doing this chores thing I had the 200 in my kitchen but the 400 in the living room adjacent to it and this kept the music flowing where I needed it seamlessly. These have an amazingly tall and wide sound stage that feels kind of surreal bouncing off the ceiling and walls to literally just immerse you. Not to mention I have it connected to my tri band wifi 7 router on 6ghz which is supported in the entire ecosystem. Still has the 3.5mm jack input as well if you have an older device you want to jack into it as well as usb c for the ultimate in connection. If your wireless network isnt up to par you can also use a rj45 network adapter via usb c and have it tap in to your wired network. The speaker itself is extremely premium looking, sounding, and even the controls on it that can tell when your near is pretty wild. Everything is also managed through the HEOS app which is once again just top notch for controlling everything you’d ever need to even changing the sound profile to tune the speaker based on placement in the room and dolby atmos sound. Tons of modes you just need to try it. Also almost forgot that Siri is built in to this if you have an apple device on the network as well and as such can actually respond to hey Siri! Just an amazing speaker and ecosystem overall highly recommend.

Sounds Fine but Not Impressive.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is in small form speaker, which is helpful for folks who have limited space. It can still be placed on the floor, it can also be placed on a “table” top. Also, you can mount it. You have options. It says wireless speaker, but it needs to be plugged in in order for it to work, so be aware. There is no plugging in just to charge it. You need to plug it in to power it. That does not make it bad, but be informed. The power cord goes into the back of the speaker. Also on the back of the speaker, are the other connections, such as Bluetooth, aux, usb. There is also a “Connect” button that you will need if using the HEOS app. On the top of the speaker, you have buttons such as play/pause, volume up/down, and three memory options. There is also an illuminating light on the front-center-bottom of the speaker. The speaker does not have a power on/off. It is just on. After 20 minutes (or so) of no use, it goes into standby. Although, it is the same illuminating white light while in use and while in standby, so you won’t know it is actually in standby. The illuminating light should have changed to red for standby mode. Voice control is Apple/Siri, so if that works for you, so be it. There is an HEOS app that works with this speaker and other Denon speakers, as well as some other brand speakers. Having other brands is a plus if you want to have a whole home system but not only with Denon speakers. It is not all brands, and not general common brands, just a few others. Oher than that, the HEOS app is just another app to go with these speakers that does what all the other apps do. With that said, setting it up is easy. Download the app, easy. Plug in your speaker. And follow the prompts in the app. You will have to hit the “Connect” button on the back of the speaker. The app allows you to set up groups of speakers to play your audio together, whether your speakers are in two different areas of your room or a whole other room(s). Also, the app allows you to use an equalizer to adjust your sound, you can search for and listen to radio stations, podcasts, playlists; you can favorite those. You can also, via the app, connect to amazon music, spotify, pandora and other music streaming services. I utilized various things mentioned – radio stations, pandora – and they all worked just fine. Of course you can also listen to music via other connections. The typical connection for me is Bluetooth. It works fine. The majority of the things mentioned above are typically nowadays with speakers, so I consider the little things second, and the audio sound first! This Denon Home 200 just sounds basic. The audio is clear. I guess it is not meant for bass (like the 400 model) because it is mostly nonexistent (or basic). The audio is nothing to write home about. I find that the speaker is not worth the price for that reason. There are so many speakers out (even actual wireless ones) that can provide the same sound with better base response. However, if you are into Denon and you want to have multiple speakers and add this as side speakers to have a set so you can play them together, then get it. Remember too, you can adjust the sound using the EQ (equalizer) in the HEOS app. I would not recommend this Home 200 model. Again, the sound is not poor, but it’s just basic. Peace.

Beautiful sound, eventually
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you’re looking at the Denon Home 200 and 400 speakers, the first thing you notice right out of the box is just how premium they feel. The build quality is legit—soft-touch finish on the top and bottom, a really clean, high-end grille, and a solid weight that makes them feel like serious pieces of equipment, not just another wireless speaker. Denon definitely nailed the design and materials here. The Denon 200 is a nice size cylindrical design and the Denon 400 is essentially two of the 200s molded into one speaker design. Getting started is mostly straightforward. Plug them in and they power right up with a subtle light strip at the bottom showing status. From there, you download the HEOS app and follow the setup. QR codes in the quick start guide make it easy to jump in. If you don’t already have a HEOS account, creating one is quick, and the app does a good job finding the speakers on your network. That said, setup wasn’t perfect for me. The first attempt completely failed right at the Bluetooth/network connection step—even though everything looked connected on my end. I ended up restarting the speakers and trying again, and the second time was smooth. Everything connected instantly and showed up in the HEOS app without issues. Apple HomeKit, though, was another story. I couldn’t get them to show up there at all. Quick heads up if you’re in the Apple ecosystem: you can’t add these directly into Apple Home unless you have a HomePod or HomePod mini acting as a hub. Even with an Apple TV 4K, they wouldn’t show up for me. So while they support AirPlay 2, full Home integration isn’t as seamless as you might expect. Now to the part that really matters—sound. The sound quality on the Denon Home 200 and 400 is… a bit of a rollercoaster. When everything is dialed in—placement, EQ settings in the HEOS app, and the right type of music—they can sound outstanding. There’s great clarity in the mids and highs, and you can really pick apart different layers in a track. But getting there takes work. Out of the box, I was honestly underwhelmed. The speakers leaned heavily toward the mids and highs, which came across a little harsh, while the low end felt lacking—even with the bass turned up. At times, the bass sounded muddy instead of punchy, and it didn’t have that depth I expected, especially compared to similar Sonos speakers I’ve used (even smaller ones). After spending time tweaking settings and physically moving the speakers around, things improved a lot. Once I found the right placement relative to where I was sitting, the sound opened up. The bass became cleaner (though still not class-leading), and the overall balance felt much better. At higher volumes, they do a solid job filling a room. The app lets you dial in the spatial audio configuration, which is nice. You can dial in different parameters for the width and the height of the sound which gives you a very immersive sound especially running two of the speakers at the same time. The biggest thing to know is that these speakers have a very specific sweet spot. Sit in the right position, and they sound great. Move outside of it, and the sound can quickly become harsh and less enjoyable. That makes them feel a bit unforgiving depending on your setup. Where Denon really shines is the HEOS app. Controlling audio—whether it’s a single speaker, a stereo pair, or multiple rooms—is super intuitive. You can group speakers, move music around your home, and everything just works. Plus, with AirPlay 2, you can still control playback directly from your iPhone and even select multiple speakers at once. You can also connect your own high definition audio services directly through the app like Tidal, Deezer or Amazon Music and stream lossless or Dolby Atmos content. Overall, I’m in a bit of a mixed spot with these. The build quality is top-tier, and the HEOS ecosystem is genuinely impressive and easy to use. When the speakers are set up just right, they can sound really, really good. But the low-end performance doesn’t quite match competitors in this price range, and the narrow sweet spot means you have to put in some effort to get the best experience. If you’re willing to tweak placement and settings, you’ll likely be happy. If you want something that sounds great right out of the box with minimal effort, these might leave you a little frustrated.

Amazing Speaker, Challenging Software
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.So... this review really is broken into 2 parts... 5 stars for the speaker and the hardware itself 1 star for the software connected to it... But since software can be updated and addressed, giving this 4 stars. I also obtained the HOME 400 Speaker as well, so been using these in together. I set the 400 up first, so that included downloading the app, setting up the account, and getting that first speaker connected. Took some time, maybe about 10 minutes total. So if this is your first speaker, expect having to go through that. (my warning there, is that it doesn't prompt you for a WiFi network to use, it uses which ever one your phone is already on... so switch to your other network, if you have more then one. You can change it later) When I added this 200, it took maybe 3-4 minutes. It found the speaker really quickly and I it was adding it to my app and network, in just a couple clicks. At least for now, there was no firmware update for the speaker, so I was ready to go. One small peeve, easily fixed on your own. This uses a pretty standard power cord, no bulk adapter (that is a 6 star in my eyes)... but the plug was not 90 degrees, given my installation the plug is behind a couch, I will need to get a new cord, or a 90 degree adapter, so that it is not bent by the couch... minor thing, but easily fixed on your own. Now for the speaker itself... REALLY REALLY good looking. Optically this looks like a high end speaker. Great coloring, tight fabric, subtle button, and the light is not bright (you can turn it off). So this can easily sit on a cabinet, or in our case edge of a flat back couch. It is not overly big, so this will also work great in an office or bedroom space wise. 3 quick programable buttons on the top (like a car radio), allows you to get to your quick selections instead of bring up the app. Sound wise.. FANTASTIC... much more powerful than I expected for the size. Great audio, good to great base, and can get very loud.. Going to be a very nice addition in our room. It has bluetooth connectivity as well for those devices, so everything doesn't have to be streaming. I tried this with 2 different streaming services, and bluetooth... everything sounded great. Now my issues are with the HEOS app, and other.. Going to simply list the issues - No Amazon Alexa support only Siri as a digital assistant - Errors in the software trying to add iHeartRadio (it isn't using iHeart's authentication screen) - No support for Apple Music, have to use AirPlay, which then requires the phone and device to stay on the network. - After you figure it out, easy to setup zones and group play speakers, will be really good when you have 3,4,10+ denon devices.. .for a full immersive experience. But it takes a while to figure it out and use it. - Volume settings are a little clunky - Dashboard can be slow, especially if you add multiple services. (Amazon Music, took several tries to get it linked in) - AirPlay support is up today, and allows you to send the audio perfectly sync to multiple devices, even other's that are not Denon - Overall I find the Mobile app, to be lacking in features, and in some areas.. just .. why? (like the settings page for the Speaker Buttons... it's just a picture, and doesn't even tell you how to set them up... let alone allowing you to set them up right there... would be the perfect place for elaborate rules/setup) So overall... love the speaker, and I hope the software improves... As if it does.. I can see updating my home theater amp with a Denon, and maybe add a couple more of these 200's around the house.

High Hopes turned into Nopes!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, the speaker sounds decent and does perform as a wireless smart speaker should. But is that enough...In my opinion, no. I expected more at this price point and from Denon. This is a pretty competitive speaker category, and nothing about it feels like it's trying to outperform the competition. The app is not super intuitive and trying to link two of these together was a headache finding the way to do so. The volume up/down increases and decreases too much for one click. When you want to listen at night, you either can't hear it or the whole house gets to listen. I will say it does feel well built, has a nice soft touch, but there is nothing to love about the design. The sound is room filling, but not enveloping. It's just there with no excitement. I don't have other app enabled Denon products and maybe if you have other devices on the Heos system this would be a good add-on, but as a stand alone product, the sound quality doesn't make me want to add more Denon/Heos products.

Great speaker for smaller rooms
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always been a fan of Denon products. The seem to be one of those brands that was really popular in the 90s and was regarded as a high-end company, but you don’t hear a lot about them lately. I was excited to give this speaker a try. Out of the box it’s a very solid product. It feels like its make with quality components and plastics and doesn’t feel cheap at all. This speaker is basically a small cylinder, it has the cool charcoal colored fabric that covers most of it, so it won’t show fingerprints or dust at all. I think in most homes this will fit in to the decor very easily and you probably wont even notice its there. I got the black model, but there is also a color called Stone which is a more light tan type color. All the controls are on the top. There is volume up and down, a play pause and then 3 presets. Getting it set up was about as easy as it can get. From the time I opened the box to the time I was playing music was probably less than 5 minutes. You just download the app and connect it via Bluetooth and you are ready to go. I am someone who has a very large music library in the flac format, most are hi-res audio files. Last check I was at about 70,000 songs and counting. So, I don’t usually use a lot of streaming services, I prefer to own my music rather than rent it. This will connect to all of the major streaming platforms like Spotify, Tidal, Pandora, and even radio ones like iHeartRadio. So, no matter how you listen to music, you’ll most likely be covered. I have all of my music on a Plex server and I was easily able to stream from that app through this speaker. Using Denon’s HEOS app you can connect to your other streaming services as well as make adjustments to tune the speaker with placement and EQ and things like that. This speaker does also support Dolby Atmos music so you can get a more immersive experience, especially if you are using multiple speakers connected together. Now lets get to how this speaker sounds, cause that’s what is really important. I have to say I found the sound to be quite pleasing, but I don’t know if everyone will love it. If you are someone that loves thumping bass, this is probably not the speaker for you. I would say this kind of sounds like a reference speaker but you can tune the EQ to your liking and make it sound a little fuller. There is good separation of the high’s mid’s and low frequencies and you are able to hear a lot of the details and intricacies of the music. I have the larger version of this speaker as well (the 400 model), and this one definitely has less bass than that one does. Denon also offers a 400 and 600 model and they get slightly larger as you go up in model number. I find this one to be a pretty good size for a smaller room like a small bedroom or den and I find it quite pleasing to listen to. I mostly listen to rock, metal, grunge, and some old school hip-hop and rap type music. Even a little country when the mood strikes me. Just to do a true test I did set up Spotify as well as the iHeartRadio on this as well to see how more compressed audio would sound. I think it still sounded very good, but you do lose a little crispness of the sound that you get with the higher resolution audio files. These speakers will also sync with Denon’s other speakers the Denon home 400 and 600. So, if you have these set throughout your house, they can all sync together providing a whole-home music experience that you can listen to as you travel from room to room. I always wanted to have a system like that with the speakers in the ceiling that I could listen to from any room, and now with this system, I can have that. I also like the different size options like this one, because for smaller rooms you can definitely get away with a smaller speaker, and larger open rooms like a living room will definitely benefit from the larger 400 or 600 speakers. For example, I have this smaller one in my home office, and I have the larger 400 speaker in my living room. This is also a smart speaker that uses the Siri voice control, so you are out of luck if you prefer google. I found all the voice controls to work well and were very responsive. I was easily able to walk from room to room and activate different smart home devices just using my voice. Overall, I think this is a great speaker ecosystem that Denon has put together. Definitely give it a listen if you are in the market for a whole home speaker system, or even if you just need one. Depending on the size of the room you need it for, there is definitely one of the 3 sizes that will work!

Fantastic Speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Denon Home 200 is a fantastic wireless speaker that is loaded with features. It can connect to wifi, bluetooth, and even wired using a 3.5mm jack. It can connect directly to a number of hi-res music services such as Tidal, Qobuz, and more. Unfortunately, it cannot connect directly to Apple Music, however, you can Airplay directly to the speaker. This is mostly how I use the speaker, and it works flawlessly. In fact, I have both the Denon Home 200 and 400 in separate rooms, and using AirPlay, I can seamlessly play my music on either, or both speakers simultaneously. It works extremely well, all you have to do is select which speaker you want to play on directly in the Apple Music app. Backing up for a second, I want to talk about the Denon Heos app. While I don't use this app much for my daily listening, I did have to use the app for setting up the speakers, and I must say, it was very easy to use. It walks you through every step of setup with easy to follow instructions. I was set up and listening to music in only a few minutes. You can use this app to find all the different services and stations that can connect directly to the speaker. It's all very well laid out and easy to find/discover music sources. You can use the app to control your music, or in my case, I just use the Apple Music app. Alternatively, you can use the physical buttons found on the speaker. I don't keep my speaker close by, so I probably won't use the physical buttons often, but it's nice to have the option if needed. Finally, the sound quality. This little speaker really fills the room. I don't even put it at full volume and it fill my office with full, rich sound. The lows have punch without being overwhelming, while the mids and highs are crisp and clear. It's just fantastic sound quality and a nice change from the cheap bluetooth speakers I'm used to. This speaker really does sound like a high end stereo system that should take up so much more space. I can't recommend this speaker enough if you are looking for something that sounds amazing, is easy to use, and doesn't take up a lot of space.
