Diablo 3 got much better over the years

Diablo 3 started off rough, but the expansion and its future updates - especially the removal of the stupid real money auction house - have rounded it out into probably the best loot-focused action RPG. Insane levels of replay value, but grinding out bounties and Greater Nephalem Rifts does get old after hundreds of times. They have continued to add gear, areas, and the seasons keep it fresh. Worth your time, especially at the current price.

Fun to play, but needs more content

    Posted .

This is a fun game to play and continued a great storyline. They followed the recipe that made the series a success, but did not really bring anything incredible to the table to reflect the advancements in the industry over the last decade. I disliked not being able to continue running while having the main map open in transluscent mode. That feature (available in D2) would have been handy when clearing unrevealed areas to finish off a map or dungeon. Also, value seemed lacking as the game was short and seemed ripe for and expansion pack just days after release(probably leading to another 60 bucks, boo). There is not much of an incentive to continue play after beating the first difficulty level. Sure you get better gear for fighting tougher foes, but with all things considered it equates to a replay. Overall, it was a fun game to play, had nice visual appeal, and the story piggy backed nicely off the previous renditions. It is very easy to connect with your buddies(and strangers) for some multiplayer hack and slash fun. I liked the game just wish there was more of it.

Hate having to being connected to the internet

I love the gameplay. It is, for the most part, what I expected from Blizzard. However, having to remain connected to the internet blows. I work in remote areas of the country where I remain 24 hrs a day and have very limited satellite internet speed, so during my time off, I am unable to play. I also know diehard Diablo fans who do not have internet access at home, so they can' play the gave. I deducted 2 stars for required internet.

    Beta Review ONLY

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have been playing the beta for a while now and I must say it is a rather well balanced game (witch doctor may be a bit overpowered.) The true hack and slash of diablo 2 is back and the best part of looting for better armor and what not is what drops is only yours. So no more run in to the boss and hope you are close enough when they are killed to get something good. The worst part of this game is that it is only available while signed in on servers. There is no way to play if your internet goes out or if you are having connection issues. Also Diablo 2 came out 12 years ago and I still get on and play from time to time but with D3 requiring you to log into a server it seems doubtful that I will be able to play this in 12 years from now and enjoy it(just think 2024!)

Great replay value just like the first two games!

This is my favorite game to play right now. It's fantastic and so far I have over 100 hours invested in it. I have two high level characters and simply squeel with joy when a unique or legendary item drops on the ground and my power increases because of it! I'm also an active member on the support forums for Diablo 3 and have read it all and have experienced very little of the negatives that this game has. The game has never crashed on me; and I logon at all hours of the day to kick some butt; while sometimes getting my own butt kicked in return but that's expected when you're fighting your way through hell's demons. The storyline is good but I felt a litlte robbed as your main quest is to capture the prime evil and you come to find out that two of them have already been captured for you. The only thing that is cumbersome (in my opinion) is the use of an authenticator for security purposes. I am lucky enough to own a smart phone and the battle.net authenticator is free to download from my app store, and while I can logon at will, it's not safe to do so. I need to always have the autenticator/phone with me. Those players without an autenticator have reported characters deleted, items and gold stolen, etc. But it all could have been resolved by getting the authenticator first, which again, is free and easy to use but must be on your person when you want to play the game. The replay value also comes in the joy of the hunt and finding unique and legendary gear. In my 100 hours of gameplay, I've found only two legendary items but plenty of yellow unique items. If your character is weak, save your gold and head over to the auction house to gain an advantage. Got to love the random instances each time you load the game too. You also have the opportunity to have brand new quests that you've never seen before even after you've beaten the game. There is always somethihng new to enjoy.

Having lots of fun looting dungeons and killing demons with my friends. No issues to report and the gameplay feels *very* polished. Can't wait for the expansion to go on sale.

Upgraded Graphics with an Anti Climatic Ending

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

So I only gave this a 4 because if you have played previous Diablo games I have to say this was an upgrade but at the same time too short and was able beat Diablo on the first go around. I miss the length of play exploring caves and lands that took hours and the new version just seems way too short . Some of the tougher opponents that you fight before you reach Diablo are harder to kill then he was so the ending is a bit anticlimatic. In Diablo II the game took a systematic approach in order to win. My family couldn't believe I did it the first time (and I am no hard core gamer). On to Nightmare level which I hope to be more challenging. I also like the new characters and the fact that they beefed up the Wizard which was always lacking before in strength. Don't let the server issue stop you as I believe that has been resolved, but am disappointed as a single player you do have to connect.

Great Game With A Few Flaws

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Diablo 3 is my first of the series and of the type. I really liked the game and what it was doing. The story and graphics were well done and the looting can be quite addictive. My only issue is that you always have to be connected to the internet to play it. While that may sound petty, if the servers go down you cant even play it in a single player mode. Also from time to time there was a little lag. This was something that I have never seen in a single player setting. The auction house is really cool as it allows you to get items better than what you have for in-game or real money as well as sell you items to others. Overall, I think Diablo 3 is a great game and I would recommend it to anyone.

Diablo 3 delivers, although 12 yrs was a bit much

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Although many people rag on it for having major connection issues and terrible bugs plagueing the servers, many also fail to realize the scope of this game. Yes it took twelve years, yes it had a bit too much hype. However, when there were over 3 million copies were sold in the first day, double that within the week. It doesn't matter how long or hard you work on a game in a studio, there is no laboratory stress test to figure out how your servers will react to such heavy traffic. Now that that issue is set aside, the gameplay and artwork of Diablo 3 are what make it stand out in my mind. Scaled back from the ages of Diablo 2, skill customization is still a nice touch that allows you to play a wide variety of builds all while still leveling your character up. When you hit the cap, the game changes significantly, its not so much about variety as it is optimization at this point. If you are a gamer who loves perfecting characters, maxing out damage to enemies and keeping your armor upgraded to ensure at least some resilience to the horde, this is the game for you. I love it. (To get some perspective, I first saw Diablo 2 when I was very young and I am fairly sure that it laid the groundwork for many of my gaming preferences over the past decade). Anyways, I think this is a must play for pc gamers.

where do i start by saying i am blown away. like many of you i have been waiting years for this game to release and i said i would never buy it because it would most likely be bad. i am really wrong on that. the game blew me away from the start of it considering that its made with very high details in mind. everything is very in depth about the game and i can thank blizzard now for taking 3 years to polish the game because it really shows throughout the entire game so far. the weapons are great and everything is much easier to understand for weapons and what not. the only thing that i wish that had done different is put better music then that annoying original soundtrack from the 90s when diablo originally got released. other then that i can find anything wrong with this game so if you haven't bought a copy yet get it.

If you liked the earlier Diablo games or enjoy fast paced role playing games, then you will like this entry in the series. It keeps the core of what makes Diablo games great (random map, fun loot), while improving on the weaknesses of earlier games (no need to use a potion every 5 seconds, easy to change how your character plays).

Conclusion as a Close Beta Tester

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Being a close beta tester since back in October the game did not have too much to offer only up to the Skeleton King and maximum level 13 across all the characters. So far back story of your character has not been revealed in game, which I'm hoping at full release it will be. The graphics are great in my opinion compared to its predecessor. Characters could be better as far as details are concerned, but the environments are gorgeous. That goes for weapon details, special abilities the characters have, and enchants weapons may be imbued with. The storyline is pretty linear and straight forward, but then again so were the previous titles so no big surprise there. If you want lore and more in depth details read the books. Some cool features they added to this current Diablo title are the action bars other than the primary / secondary attacks with mouse only. Character stat details are nice similar to what they have in WoW. Really enjoy the shared loot stash and gold makes it easy to start up a character and makes transferring equipment via another friend a thing of the past. The automatic gold pick up by running across it is awesome! The less clicks so I can keep the carnage going the better. Your added mercenary that you get to join you on the battle lines is sweet. In beta it was the Templar, which I look forward to seeing their own back story in this game. The switching of skill sets on the fly is a nice added bonus to customizing your character so you can enjoy each and all of your characters skill sets. I do enjoy how they let you see some of the previous NPC's fate in the current game in a subtle discovery kind of way. For instance Warriv the NPC from Act 1 and 2 and that's all I'll say about that don't want to ruin it for people. I may have missed some other points about the game but rather not make a novel of a review so cutting it short. In conclusion my beta experience overall was quite enjoyable and in my opinion this current installment of Diablo will live up to the masses expectations. Happy Hunting on 5/15/12 woot 3 days to go!!!!

    Great game!

I've read all of the horrible reviews that this game has received due to Blizzard's poor performance in the initial weeks after release. I experienced these issues as well, including basically not being able to play the game until 2.5ish weeks after release. There were horrible lag and crashing problems which made it impossible to enjoy. However, over the past few weeks, I have not experienced any problems and have been able to enjoy the game for what it is. While still very similar to D2, I really enjoy the new skill system that allows you to try out different skill combos on the same character which was impossible on D2 due to locked skill points. I also really like that the loot system has been updated so that everything each player sees and picks up is their own individual loot....no more mad rushes to drops in boss runs. The gameplay is great and retains the classic feel that all of the Diablo games have and the story line is great. Aside from the initial issues with Battle.net and issues that I'm sure will pop up in future patch updates, the game as a whole is great and in my opinion was worth the long wait.

    Classic fun hack n slash

Game Review: This is classic Diablo hack and kill. The game is easy to log on and start playing right away. Zero learning curve required. The graphics aren't what I expected, but they are good enough. Character creation is very simple. Pick a class and a name and go kill some stuff. If you liked the old Diablo games its worth buying. No cheating to worry about with online char storage is nice for multiplayer, but means you need internet connection to play even solo game. Game came with free trial cards for my friends. Best Buy Review: Ordered online for in store pickup. Confirmation email came right away. Had second email confirming ready to pickup shortly after. The items were ready and waiting at the customer service desk when I arrived with no wait. Very good experience.

Unless you have been a long time fan of Diablo and played Diablo 2 LOD a lot, you wont understand exactly where I'm coming from. The over all game of D3 is awesome. I love how they kept the barb and how they continued the crazy awesome story line. Bringing back the old legends like Cain and Tyreal really takes you back to the good ol' D2 times. However, I have come to realize that D3 is overly structured and essentially made so that all you have to do is level up and find your items. Sounds like every game right? Wrong. Remember how in D2 you could have multiple different paladins? One could be a hammerdin, another a smiter, FOH pally, etc. No more customizing your characters in D3. Your skills are all chosen for you and therefore once you've made one monk, you've made them all. When it comes down to it, the skill set in D3 sucks. Its just too boring :/ It would also be nice if they would bring back tps because check points are just so annoying and theres nothing more annoying than having to run all the way through a map again just to get back to where you were. Hope this review gives you some insight!

Decent Diablo game, but it's no D2

Diablo 1 and (mainly) 2 were known for their excellent story. Diablo 3, the story is weak. The graphics are great. The audio is... weird and repetitive. Make sure you turn on sub-titles before playing. Overall, the game is pretty good, but it is lacking... something. If you're looking for a great Diablo 1-esque game, get Torchlight (for the PC). If you're looking for a great Diablo 2-esque game, get Titan's Quest: Immortal Throne (also for the PC).
