Good movie, scifi that is more than special effects.

havent seen it yet but heard good things. regardless happy to have in the collection. love the color scheme of it. came on time and damage free

With the found footage/documentary style filming, this isn't going to look like top-tier 4K material. That being said, still an upgrade over the blu.

It's ok. Its a different modern day sci-fi. Glad I got it on sale. There needs to be a part two.

This is a review for the steel book version specifically, not the movie itself which is excellent. I own a good number of steelbooks and this is the worst one I've ever seen. It's very low quality and arrived bent in several places and with paint scratched off. This is my first Best Buy exclusive steel book and it's very low quality compared to others. It's not worth the extra cost over the regular 4k version unfortunately, so I suggest passing on this unless you inspect it in store first.

I enjoy many movies but this one was awful. I had to buy it for one of my college classes and it was just to gory for me.

I really didn't care for this movie at all. Bad acting, bad graphics, bad story; do not waste your time.

Wow. THat is the first thing I thought when this film was over. It seemed like a breath of fresh air, something new in a summer filled with sequels and remakes. It puts a new twist on the common si-fi story of aliens visiting earth. District 9 takes place in Johannesburg South Africa. A large alien ship hovers over the town, setting up the story from the very first image on the screen. There is one thing about this story that sets it apart from other alien movies. The aliens are not here to invade the planet, eat our brains, or to share technology with us. They are refugees, starving and diseased. And I'll let you figure out the rest of the story from there. The film is presented in an odd fashion. About half is presented in an almost documentary style, with interviews spaced in between news footage and the infamous "shaky cam". The other half feels like a normal fictional movie. This may be annoying for some viewers, but the transitions between the two styles are seamless. The "shaky cam" is not overdone, it feels just about right. This original style really immerses you into the film, and makes you genuinely care about the characters. The acting is just superb. Sharlto Copley, who plays the lead role, does an amazing job. It is hard to believe this is his first major acting role. You really need to see this film!! Don't get turned off by the first few minutes, it takes a little getting used to. I think you will be happy with it. I read a few posts back that someone said this is an English movie. It is not. It was made in South Africa, by South African director, with all South African actors. One more note, there is LOTS of swearing and LOTS of violence in this movie. Not for children.

Good things: Loved the plot, which was based on incidents from the apartheid era (racial, not extraterrestrial) in South Africa. This is a very unique approach to this controversial topic. The main character goes through a wide range of emotions through the film, fear, shock, sadness, lonliness, anger, helplessness, selfishness, courage, hopeful, uncertain. The ending is a bit of a surprise as well. Not what I was expecting. It was filmed in the increasingly popular psuedo-documentary style, which is still somewhat unique for a major hollywood release, but somewhat common for low budget films (this was both). Sharlto Copley is excellant, and most of the film revolves around him, so it's hard to judge the acting (since the aliens are CGI, I don't think they were up for an oscar). Bad things: CGI was a bit choppy at times. The exploding humans were a little cheesy, but on a small budget, this was not a surprise. The supporting actors won't blow anyone away, but none of them are developed either. If you love fairy tales, this movie isn't for you. The producers (Peter Jackson) got the most out of the money they had, but I suspect that some extra money would have helped. Conclusion: This is the Bizzaro Avitar. Very good plot and acting, a bit weaker with its CGI and gritty documentary style. I liked this and couldn't care less about Avitar and its CGI. If that is you, you will like this movie.

When I was watching this movie, I was thinking it was going to be stupid because it was taking a while to get going with action. By the end of the movie, I was sitting on the edge of my seat and felt like I was in the movie. You get so engrossed into the story line that you don't even notice how fast the movie is going by! I can't WAIT for a sequal! :D

this movie was great. the visuals are awesome and very well done. the story is well told. the movie has heart and gives you something to think about. its much more than a scifi alien flick. the people complaining about this movie really didnt understand it. im not going to blow any plots here. but dont be swayed by bad reviews written by people that didnt get it. get it, see it, love it.
