This movie was very well shot and put together, the first portion of it is very documentary style and may turn some people away; but it soon explodes into a very engaging plot w/ many very heartf elt social twists about humanity and social instict. This movie is somewhat gruesome @ moments, but has the plot and excitement to stand behind it to keep you watching. It is a major achievement of story line within the scifi geanre of the past ten or so boring years! If not for the special effects and alien baseline of the story ths could still become a great drama of the decade.

District 9 is based on aliens also known as Prawns who live in the slums of Johannesburg.A man discovers the secret of the alien weaponry after picking up a fluid spray can,and spraying himself in the face with it.The main character does a good job at staying in character.In the beginning he is part of a group called MNU,they deal with the aliens in District 9.The aliens also are a big part of the film,even thou their computer generated.From the movements to the way they talk was very well played out.And the weapons like the guns,and battle suit it's like something out of a video game.I had a problem with the end.I won't spoil it for you,but if you saw it you get where I'm going with it.But this is a really good movie no one should miss.

District 9 is by far the best alien movie and may be one of the best movies ever made. From the very start of the film the great story and action are non-stop. The camera work is also excellent as the documentary style camera work puts you right in the middle of the action. A must own movie!

My sister got me this movie on Christmas Eve back in 2009, telling me all about it. I got to watch it and loved it!! The aliens looked cool, their guns were insane and the robot suit, awesome!! Quite an awesome extraterrestrial movie that Peter Jackson had ever made.

After watching the first half hour, I said to myself what is this garbage, and almost stopped watching it. Figured it to be a low budget B movie, but it got a lot better as it went along. I didn't realize beforehand that it was made in South Africa, thought it might of been Australian. The aliens had some cool weapons and it was nice to see them kick butt in the end. Didn't watch the extras, no comment.

The movie is great on bluray and the story flows perfectly to the end. It has the right amount of action and slow points. The movie is a must for your bluray collection.

I didn't think this site provided movie reviews but here goes. The special effects of the movie were great, but this wasn't just another mind-numbing special effects movie. I really liked the social commentary about how any group in power takes advantage of any group under that power.

This movie proves you can make a compelling science fiction story with good special effects without a huge budget. Elysium was flashier, but District 9 has more heart. A very minor problem I had was that the digital copy is expired, and unlike several other studios, Sony seems to be strict with their expiration dates (Pineapple Express was also expired, while Iron Man 2, a Paramount release, was still redeemable even after the stated expiration date).

I though it was well done, I think that having different points of view from everyone that was in the movie shows something new. Gives you a sense of realism of what it would really be like to have alien living amongst us.

The move will have you cheering for th aliens, First that has ever happen with me at lest. Shows also how distructive us humans can be in the movie. A must see, not for any child of course.

Loved this movie. At the beginning it was hard for me to get into it because it was documentary style, but the action quickly caught my attention and I was glued to my tv. Loved the movie. Loved the message it sent out.

3 of 5 stars for the sci-fi movie District 9. Believe it or not, I really had not seen any trailers nor clips from this movie. I was excited to see it just because it seemed like another Independance Day. So, I had no idea what to expect when it started. To summarize first, I was disappointed but still liked it enough to give 3 stars. The short version is a group of aliens come to the Earth and their mother ship gets stuck hanging above South Africa. This event happened many years ago and the aliens are now living in slum-like conditions in a prison camp. The style of this movie is to look like a news program or a documentary. Alot shot on video rather than film gives a crisp look. It seemed like a low budget film until you realize the high quality seamless special effects. So, I was not all that impressed with this movie and will give it a mildly positive recommendation. The blu-ray has some good behind the scenes materials that are helpful in understanding why the movie is as it is.

If you like sci-fi, this is a must see. The cg in the movie is awesome and you feel like that alien is really teamed up w the guy. The first half is kinda long but the second is all awesome action. I give the English major cred for makin this one. Enjoy

The movie starts out quite slow, introducing characters and talking about District 9, etc. Then it picked up after about a half hour and that's all I will say about it. And of course, on Blu Ray, everything is better. I would recommend this movie to anyone.

Being a short film that was adapted into a big screen movie, District 9 definitely delivers. Especially it being a "foreign" film, it still holds up and is an absolutely original and extremely good film.

The movie looks great! by far my favorite blue-ray in terms of looks. I saw the movie in the theaters and loved it so I picked it up when it came out.

Great movie idea combined with a lot of CG work. Almost got lost in the first half of it. Was beginning to believe that I picked up a documentary instead of a movie. Then the action finally picked up. Was great to see the weapons finally working. Really shows whats wrong with nepotism.

The movie was not bad at all, and the Graphics were pretty good. The problem with me is in the story, it was ok but kinda hard to follow, and there were alot of loose ends. Over all it was good, and i was excited about it.

UHD upgrade over Blu-ray. HDR superior clarity, flesh tones better. Dolby Atmos track dialogue clear.
