Like the size of the camera and the fact that you could so easily switch between just the camera or extra battery or the second screen to see what you’re videoing. Either way both charge the camera. Not to mention the magnetic for easy to switch between different stands. For a small camera it has great quality pictures as well with easy switch between settings. The camera did not over heat when recording for a long period of time which is a plus. The only thing not to fond of is the internal size of the card but the extended pieces do hold a micro sd card so you do get more space, the camera itself does not hold a removable sd card. I would recommend this camera for anyone who wants to video their adventures or a dash cam.

I have and have had several DJI products over the years (from drones, to gimbals, to action cams) and the Action 2 Dual-Screen set is probably some of the most fun I have had with their products. Don't get me wrong, nothing beats that first time you zoom around with your drone and get cool birds-eye footage, but that actually gets a little old after a while. The Action 2 has so many uses, that I don't think you will run out of fun things to do with it.
I have to say that one of the main reasons why I'm liking the the DJI Action 2 so much is their improved DJI Mimo software. I've had Action 2 and the software on my iPhone for about 5 days now and I am still having fun with just the most basic feature of the software. I really need to put it on my iPad to give myself more real estate to really dig into everything Mimo can do. Just doing the basic AI Editor makes you seem like some video auteur by taking your clips and adding music and effects all by itself. The first clip I did was just walking around my house so I could see how the Action 2 did with a variety of light sources and levels. I put it all into a clip and the software automatically added speed ups and slowdown effects as well as music. I showed it to my buddy next door who is a realtor and he was blown away. He is actually going to get an Action 2 just for this. Right now he PAYS someone to do this kind of thing for him and his listings. Now he can do it himself. Plus he has a new baby and want to film all the 'firsts'.
In photography the old adage is 'The best camera is the one you have with you.' I used to have a ton of high-end photo gear and was a semi-professional photographer (got paid to shoot photos and sold some prints to publications). Eventually, I got tired of lugging all that stuff around and breaking my back. Now I just like whipping out my iPhone and taking nice snapshots for me. That is the easiest and I always have my phone on me. I thought that the DJI phone gimbals would be great but you still have to carry that with you and you have to set up your phone. Now, I can have a dedicated camera with me virtually all the time if I want. Prior action cams required attachment to some mount (whether it was a selfie stick, head mount, chest strap, or whatever) for you to have relatively hands-free operation. Now I can attach the magnetic bracket to the camera and put the neck lanyard behind my shirt and the camera sticks through the fabric. This makes it super unobtrusive, and with the voice command ability turned on, I don't even have to touch the camera or my phone to snap a picture or clip of what I'm doing/seeing! That being said, I can't wait for some of the accessories that DJI has planned for the Action 2 to come out. I have reservations in on all of them.
In addition to being a semi-pro photographer, I'm also an avid hiker and traveler. That last bit has been pretty hard to keep up with over the last few months but it has gotten better now that the vaccine is out and travel restrictions have lessened. I plan on changing my relatively static blog of landscape photos now into a much more action packed blog highlighting cool hikes and trips my wife take. Unfortunately, I had hoped for the Action 2 to arrive before I just recently went on a hiking trip in the Appalachians for Fall but it arrive a couple of days after I got back. That's OK because I have a trip to Joshua Tree set up for Thanksgiving and another one set for Cabo San Lucas (where I hope to use the waterproof case - fingers crossed that it's out by then - for snorkeling) in January! That's in addition to the hikes around the Channel Islands and Santa Monica Mountains I usually do.
I have to say that if you are going to get one of the kits (and I HIGHLY recommend that you do so), that you get the dual screen version. I might have actually more use for just the battery attachment, but I like the flexibility of the dual screen version more. You get some of the battery back-up of the single-purpose battery add-on with the addition of the additional screen if you plan on doing selfies or to record yourself for blog segments.
OOH! I almost forgot one of my favorite parts of the Action 2 (well, I guess I mentioned it above when talking about the lanyard), but the magnetic features of this thing are great! Attaching the secondary screen is super easy because you just put them in the vicinity of each other and they click into place. Same goes for the ball-head and adapter mount. They also have little clips to add some additional security but I have to say that the magnetic grip is pretty darn strong.
Another thing I really enjoy about the Action 2 is that the screens are big enough end responsive enough to actually use on their own without having to use the phone interface. Swiping up/down and left/right bring up all the features and menus you need and the controls are easy to hit without fat-fingering them and messing up the settings.
I have only two minor quibbles with the Action 2, otherwise it is the coolest little device I have had in recent years and that is including things other than cameras! The first issue is that DJI launched the Action 2 without the accessories available. I am so geeked out to use this in so many different ways that I NEED some of those and I might miss out on some great opportunities if these things don't hit the street soon. My second is that sometime when attaching the camera unit to the secondary screen unit, one of the clips fails to secure for some reason. I can't figure out why but I almost always have to push it down to lock it into place. Like I said above, the magnetic attachment is very strong, but this is also a expensive and delicate piece of equipment and I don't want to run to the risk of losing or damaging it if it comes off of the mount.
I also have one request of DJI if they read this review. Please make a concealed clothing mount so that I don't have to use the one attached to the neck lanyard when I want to attach it to my clothing. The neck lanyard is cool, and the stabilization software is phenomenal at counteracting much of the motion when walking around with it on the lanyard, but having it attached to my clothing is even more stable and unobtrusive. I've attached a picture of me using this method through a semi-thick sweatshirt and you can see how cool it is. The connection is solid between the camera and the magnetic bracket, and between the bracket and the mount, but if they made a more powerful (read larger surface area) bracket or mount, it would be perfect!
If you can't tell from my gushing, I am having a blast with the Action 2 and I am stoked to try it out in so many new ways. The best camera I will have with me will be my Action 2, because it will be so easy to have with me. Go out and get yourself one!

Great Form Factor, Disappointing App / Overheating

Amazing Camera crippled by buggy MIMO APP!
**The 3 Star rating I gave in this review was simply for the user experience that I had from the moment I opened the box until I got it up and running. DJI NEEDS to fix their MIMO App and they need to ensure quality control on their mounts.
So right off the bat, I want to say that I really like this camera. It's unique in the way that it operates compared to anything else we have seen to date.
Its modular, magnetic design is really cool and the fact that you can just snap it together or on and off of your mounts means no more fiddling around with thumb screws and cages. Since I received the camera I have had a tough time with the MIMO app, the overheating issue and with the GoPro style mount that comes in the box. Read On……..
So the MIMO app is how you are going to connect your camera to your phone so that you can do basic things like preview and download the footage that you have taken and also to configure and change settings, and update the camera's firmware. For the first 3 hours after I unboxed this camera I had issues with the camera connecting to the app and after that was figured out I then was having a problem where the app would not let me preview or download the footage to my phone. I tried contacting DJI support twice, once through email and once through chat and both representatives did not know what the problem was nor did they get back in touch with me to help troubleshoot. For me the APP is VERY important because when you're out filming you need to be able to preview and download your footage on the go so you can edit or share via social media. I mean it is 2021 right?
** UPDATE ** I ended up figuring out that there is a big problem with the MIMO APP on iOs. To resolve the connection and downloading issue you must goto the SETTINGS on the iPhone itself and then scroll all the way down until you see DJI MIMO. Inside there you will see at the bottom a slider for CELLULAR DATA That slider MUST be turned OFF. Once you have that slider off, restart the MIMO APP itself and your connection/preview/downloading issues should be resolved.
So once I resolved the MIMO APP issues I was very frustrated at the experience out of the box, but I kept an open mind. I then started to check out the different mounts that came in the box. Depending on the combo that you purchase you will receive a necklace mount that enables you to attach the camera to your chest which will give you the ability to get a unique perspective. You will also get a GoPro Style mount that you can use with your existing mounts that you might have from previous cameras, and there's also a ¼ thread swivel ball head mount that you can use with a selfie stick or tripod. There's also a sticky pad that can be attached to that ballhead so you can basically place the camera anywhere you want!
**NOTE - I did have an issue with the GoPro style mount that was in the box with my UNIT. The prongs were not spaced properly and caused fitment issues when trying to attach the mount to existing OEM GoPro mounts that I own.
The Camera itself is VERY VERY cool!!! I love how it's modular and is built with magnets and latches that give it a very secure feel. The modules snap together with a very satisfying “SNAP” to the point that I find myself just taking it apart to re-snap it back together. The design is very nice and feels very durable. DJI claims this camera to be drop proof, dustproof and waterproof up to 10m. It's very small and the smallest 4k action camera I have ever held but again I really love what they have done here. The bottom module that came with the dual screen combo also has a bunch of options on it. This is where you will insert an SD card to expand storage, charge the main camera as well as the bottom module via the USB-C port and there are additional microphone ports, 4 in total to increase the audio recording quality.
**NOTE - One thing that is really neat is the bottom and top module when connected will share power depending on what is needed. So if your main camera module is low on battery and you connect the bottom module, the bottom will provide power to the top. Additionally if the camera is off, the bottom module will ALWAYS charge the main camera module to ensure you're ready to go!
The camera also provides plenty of modes you might be familiar with...1080p - 2.7k - 4k and all the framerates you might need 24,25,30,48,50,60,100 and 120fps. That's way more than I'm used to seeing on others. So i think no matter where you are from you are covered!!! There is also a 4:3 Aspect ratio on the 2.7k and 4k modes. I suspect this will be useful for social media such as instagram. So at this point I think it's clear between the form factor, the cool ways you can mount the camera and the shooting modes, that this camera has REAL potential to be one of the BEST. And it almost is, with one little problem, it overheats!
Overheating action cameras have become the norm it seems, with cameras getting smaller, more powerful and being waterproof, the one downside is that heat builds up quickly and has nowhere to go given the sealed nature of these cameras. I did some testing with the top module only and the camera overheated in every mode and framerate. The last test I did was in 4k24p and the cameras stopped recording after only 14:56. In 1080p it stopped after only 21:34. I agree that for most users this won't affect them but users planning to use this camera in a static environment will have some issues depending on how long they intend to film a single video clip. There have been tons of posts on social media and youtube demonstrating this problem.
To see the overheating test you can visit this link

The picture quality is very good and is on par with competing brands. It is an action camera and so it should only be expected to get good quality if used outdoors and with sufficient light. Using the camera indoors with most indoor lighting there will be a degradation of quality as well as noise in the picture. This is not the camera's fault, rather how any action camera would work. The size of the sensor used means less light can enter and the camera must compensate by increasing ISO and slowing the Frame rate. This also causes blurring with quick movements indoors being that the frame rate has dropped to compensate for the amount of light the sensor is receiving.
Overall this camera is really good and is VERY capable. If you use it the right way you will be very happy with what it can do for you. I hope they release an update that enables the camera to run more efficiently so that it doesn't heat up quite as fast and increases the overall experience.
If you're looking for the latest and greatest and don't mind the potential for overheating on longer clips, then give this a try. If you're someone who wants to use this as a dash cam or to film static scenes indoors for longer periods, I would look elsewhere. The competition is doing far better in terms of recording longer clips.
are real with this camera!

Dear customer,
We apologize for any inconvenience caused. DJI Action 2 is designed to be compact and highly integrated. Therefore, when recording a high bitrate video for a long time, the camera unit emits much heat. If the device prompts “Device overheated. Unable to record.”, we recommend that you go through the steps below to extend your shooting duration. 1. Lower the video resolution or frame rate. 2. To record a high bitrate video for a long time, we recommend that you attach the camera unit to the front touchscreen module or power module. Besides, you could use the DJI Action 2 Magnetic Protective Case to reduce surface temperature to optimize video recording. For more information, you can check the link: https://forum.dji.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=261437 As for the app issue, please download and install the latest app through the link below to see if the issue still exists. https://www.dji.com/downloads/djiapp/dji-mimo If yes, please contact DJI Support for further assistance. http://www.dji.com/support

It’s one of the best looking action cameras out there. It does overheat sometimes but it never turned off like others say. It does have a glitch that they have not fixed. When you record at the highest resolution it turnes the videos into slow motion when you play them with a pc. This is a great action camera if you don’t have a phone that can shoot 4k at 60fps.

Out of the box must do all the setup and updates. Just like my GoPro 10 and other action camera. Yes it gets hot but just like my GoPro 10. Specially if you just let it sit on your desk pointing at one item like some of the youtubers. I was not sure whether to get it or not. It was the last one in the store plus return policy now is till Jan 6th. So I went for it.
First test after all the updates and setup, it got hot for sure around close to the 5 to 10 min mark with just the unit. Took it outside and do some recording at 4k 30 ultrawide rock steady on and I was able to use the complete built in memory with no issues and had maybe 58% battery left. Unit was warm like all action camera. Then I did a 4k 120 and started to get warm at 4 min, 8 min started to get warmer, 15 min started to get more warmer but still able to hold it, 20 min got hot. Most of the time I will be doing mostly 4k 30 videos and that will be ok. And believe me I have gopros, insta360, sony and all get warm to hot. Yes this thing can get really hot to where you dont want to get burn, but who is going to film 4k 120 for 10 min 30 min or even 45 min. Most filming is within the 2 to 5 min range to get that slow mo effect at 4k 120. And why would you point it to a monitor at 4k 120 and let it sit there oh yeah it will get very hot for sure. try it on the hero 10 it will get hot also but not as bad as the action due to the built and design of the action 2 not plastic. I love my gopro 10 and other camera. But this Action 2 is so different on what it can with the new magnet design and how you can use this. And its so small with that much power. I will do more testing on this device and see what happen. I will have videos on it on my channel soon if you want to see. For now you can see it in action vs the Hero 10, Hero 9, Insta360 Go 2(this little unit is a beast). And I did it without any color corrections or touch up. Pure and simple video.
This action 2 have very very good potential. https://youtu.be/C67hKhZaB3Q

The DJI Action 2 Dual-Screen Combo is an excellent action camera with 4K video quality and a compact design. The only drawback is that it tends to get a little hot during extended use. However, it hasn't affected performance or image quality. Overall, it's a top-tier camera for capturing adventures.

Love the compact size. Reminds me of the direction GoPro was going with the GoPro session. But its updated with some special mounting options, 4k 60 and dual screen option.
Unfortunately, the camera records live only directly to the buil-in storage. Tends to overheat with extended 4k recording. And the neck pendant mount does not secure the camera well enough for true action sports. Finally if you drop it, crack the lens, you can't replace it yourself, so you have to send it back for repair.

I had high hopes for this camera due to it's size and the 4k recording at 100,120 and 60 FPS. The DJI build quality shines thru as the camera feels very well built and feels durable and a bit luxurious. The accessories included are very nice, the neck lanyard is a new concept which seems very innovative and the magnetic docking system for the 2nd screen is very nice as well. The camera angle is wide enough to capture all the action but as far as praise that is as far as it goes.
As far as an action camera goes it is safe to say the action most people want to capture is at 4k and at least 60FPS and this camera boasts 100 and 120 FBS at 4k but it has a limit of 4 minutes. Well unfortunately the 4k 60FPS also has a limit of 4 minutes and once the 4 minutes is up it will not record due to the heat buildup and cool off period. The battery is eaten away very easily and quickly, just using one module and recording 4 min at 60fps and waiting for a cool off period i recorded at 2.7k 60fps and it also had a limit of 4 minutes. So after approximately 10minutes of recordings, the camera was down to 15%. SO the major draw of 4k is not much use if you can only do 2- 4 minute bursts.
Even if they release a software upgrade to allow it to record longer it will risk damaging the camera due to the heat buildup and lack of good heat dissipation. I really wanted to love the camera but was disappointed with the design and its short comings.

The DJI Action 2 is a remarkable upgrade from its predecessor, packing an impressive array of features into an incredibly compact form factor. As an enthusiast of outdoor activities and adventure photography. The only downside to this camera is the weak battery. Unless you use the attachment that adds more battery the the single unit just drains way too fast. Plus it has minium storage on board.

If GoPro and Insta360 had a baby, it would be this camera. The small form factor makes it easy to carry around and easy to use like the Insta360 Go 2, but is image quality is on par with GoPro’s latest line up. Yes - overheating is an issue, but as someone who likes to shoot quick clips, this has never been a real problem for me. If you’re one that needs to record long video clips, this is not your camera. Go look at GoPro or Insta360’s offerings. However, if you want high quality footage and only plan to shoot a minute or two at most, this is something worth looking at.
I cant recommend this camera to everyone, but can be an amazing device for certain shooting styles.

Has excellent picture quality etc. Plenty of settings to fine tune...even the temp...which i still a prob if recording 4k120fps. U can change the temp settigs, but it only gives u a few more seconds. 60fps 4k and down seem to be no problem. Great fob and like the modular design. Is a battery eater so be prepared to have extra batt module or fast charger.

Amazing versatile camera, This camera is like a wearable accessory, just like my Samsung wearables (watch, Bluetooth etc...) The only downside is the overheating in hotter climates and filming in 4k. I wish it could shoot 5k as well; however, at a price, I got it on sale for $309 NO complaints here. It also works great on my DJI FPV drone, unlike the GoPro Hero9, which blocks GPS to the drone. It's basically everything I need as both accessories to a camera setup for capturing vacation shots this summer and drone add-on.

It’s tiny by itself and works great with its modules. It’s only waterproof by itself and when not attached to any models. That means if you record in snow or rain it’s battery life is terrible and you can only use it’s 32gb internal storage. Together that means maybe 20 minutes of 4K footage
Also this overheats extremely easily

Dear customer,
Sorry for any inconvenience. DJI Action 2 is designed to be compact and highly integrated. There are SD card slot and USB-C port in the front screen module, therefore, Action 2 is not water-proof when it is attached with the front screen/battery module without using a water-proof case. This product is horrible. I read about the overheating issues, but this thing gets super hot even before I'm able to finish setting it up. It won't charge properly, and when I go to their app to find more detailed instructions, the app doesn't work properly. Does not seem like a product that should cost anywhere near as much as it does.
Best Buy also gets 1 star. Took my money, but took weeks before the products was shipped- even when they knew it was backordered, but listed it as in stock. I tried to return the product, only to find out online returns for this aren't available as I'm trying to return it on the last day of my return window. It was too late for me to get to the store to return it, so now I have a useless product I can't return. Best Buy just lost a customer for life.
