    Incredibly Fun to Fly!

I fly a DJI Mini 3 Pro and while it is amazing for stable photography and video it is not as fun as the new Avata 2. I do not let my kids fly my Mini for two reasons: I’d have to teach them the controls and I’m afraid they would crash it. With the Avata 2 I let my 11-year-old fly it on the second day. The propeller guards make it less likely for a person to get hurt and make the drone more resilient to crashing. On my first flight (not my son’s) I ran it head-on into the metal pole of a swing set. It detected the collision, self-corrected, and stayed in the air. The headset asked me to check the drone for damage but there was none, not even a scratch that I could find. The Avata 2 comes with both a new headset, called Goggles 3, and a new controller called the RC Motion 3. The controller is meant to be used with a single hand and you can fly the drone mostly with simple wrist movements and a pull of the accelerator trigger. It takes a short while to learn but is very intuitive once you get the hang of it. The headset is lightweight with a pair of high resolution OLED screens with an excellent 100hz framerate. It is more comfortable than most VR goggles I’ve owned as DJI has placed the battery pack in the head-strap, so it sits on the back of the head instead of your forehead. However, it is not a virtual reality experience, it is merely the 2D screen projected in a 3D space an inch from your eyeballs. There are multiple cameras that allow passthrough vision which you can enable by double tapping the side of the headset. It’s exceptionally good as I’m able to move about and pick up things without any discernible lag. I was even able to easily use my phone through the Goggles. There’s PIP so you can see your surroundings and the drone’s view at the same time. Never once did I lose video or see any type of lag while flying with the headset. As a bonus you can use the DJI app on your phone to wirelessly transmit the same video feed from the headset to the phone. This allowed me or my son to watch while the other was flying in the headset. As you’re flying you will see indicators flash by if you fly too close as the drone has both rear and downward facing object detection. It does not have forward detection but assumes you will be viewing the camera feed at all times, so it’s not needed. The detection is useful when you do some of the included “acro” maneuvers such as my favorite the “180-degree Drift”. This is basically a fly-by where the drone will fly towards an object then you can spin it around 180-degrees and watch it fly away from the object you flew through or near to. It makes for dramatic video that I could not pull off near as easily with my Mini. The batteries last roughly 20 minutes and you get 3 of them. That’s right, you can have fun for nearly an hour provided you don’t mind a couple of quick pit stops. In addition to the generous number of batteries, DJI includes a charger that can charge all three at once and best of all transfer power between them without a power source! What this means is if you have 3 batteries that only have 20% charge or so you can stick them into the charger and it will accumulate all the power to the fullest battery. Super useful if you have some charge on at least two but not a full battery. Out of the box there are two modes, Normal and Sport. Normal is best when you are learning how to fly as it puts a limit on how fast the drone can ascend, descend, and fly horizontally. Sport mode lets the drone fly as fast as 35mph. However, there is an optional accessory you can purchase called the FPV Motion 3 Controller which unlocks an additional mode called Manual. This mode, geared towards expert pilots, allows the drone to fly with more precision and at a blistering 60mph. Unfortunately, I don’t have the controller (yet) so I was unable to test Manual mode. I don’t plan on using a micro SD card with the Avata. I see no reason to do so. It comes with a whopping 46GB of internal storage, enough to hold 90 minutes of content. I always have my iPad or phone with me so I can easily download the videos either with the DJI app or a USB-C cable. Note that you do not need to power on the drone to retrieve videos through USB. The downsides are few, mainly that it’s an FPV drone first and foremost so its camera and stabilization system are not quite as good as what you’d find on a drone purpose-built for photography or cinematography like the Mini Pro series. It only has a 12 MP sensor and a single axis tilt gimbal compared to a 3-axis. I can take much better photos on my Mini. However, the video quality of the Avata 2 is still impressive and can actually be more entertaining to watch. Finally, it’s louder than I had expected so don’t think you can sneak this into any area where you shouldn’t be flying a drone, people will certainly hear it. Pros: - High Resolution, High FPS FPV Headset - Includes 3 batteries - Charging Hub w/ Battery Balancing - Passthrough Vision with PIP - 46GB Internal Storage - 4k/60 Recording - 60 MPH Top Speed (but see below) - Rear and Downward Object Detection - RC Controller 3 is Intuitive - Safe and Somewhat Crash Resilient Cons: - 1-axis Gimbal (Tilt only) - 12 MP Sensor - Limited to 35 MPH speed without additional purchase - Can be loud Overall - the Avata 2 is hard to beat if you are looking for a fun FPV experience with an easy to use drone that can also record the action.

Ive had quite a few drones over the years. Some cheap and bad and some expensive but just OK. This DJI is not only not very expensive for what you get, but it is the best drone Ive had by far. In the box you get EVERYTHING you will need and more! DJI Avata 2, goggles, a motion controller (which also is a whole new experience), extra propellers, charger, cables, accessories, a bag, and 3 batteries! This is awesome that you get extra batteries. In every other RC/ drone Ive ever bought extra batteries were always a separate purchase. The initial set up was very easy. I just followed a video from DJI online and was up and ready in minutes. There are so many features this drone has it will take awhile to learn everything. But nothing ever got overwhelming. The safety and convenience features make it easy to get started while you learn. Ive had drones in the past that had cameras and lots of the same features. But although I was always curious about how using goggles would change things up. And now I know. Its a completely different experience! Ive been into RC since I was a kid. Mainly cars and trucks, a few planes, then drones later in life. They all were very similar experiences in that you would just control it with a controller and watch from afar. But with goggles its like you are actually doing the flying! Although I do prefer a standard controller the motion controller for this works amazing. Im not completely new to motion controllers, but I am to this one. It took awhile to adjust to what does what on it, but in no time it became second nature and its very intuitive. The flight is so good, and much faster than I expected. Its completely stable at all speeds and when you let off the throttle it snaps to hover so well. Im still getting use to the controller and might get the standard one, but for now it works very well. Each flight was about 12-15 minutes if you go all out. But since you have 3 batteries you can pretty much fly for close to an hour. More if you have a way to keep your batteries charging while you fly. But its plenty of time for me. The camera and recording on this is top notch. The quality of the video and pics are excellent. Video is very stable and with 46gb of internal storage you can get lots of great footage. You get amazing PFV content that allows you to get views and footage that was impossible before with any other camera set up. But of course the main draw here is FPV flying which is AMAZING! Ive watched lots of videos of others in FPV, but until you strap the goggles on and take flight you dont know just how immersive this is. It can even get scary at times when you are going fast near trees, and other obstacles, etc. Until you remind yourself your not in the actual cockpit. But as close as you can be for sure! Flips, rolls, etc are so much funner in first person. Like I said up top this is the best drone I have ever had or flown before. And for what you get for the price I dont see any others that even come close. Im looking forward to taking this out to the lake to get some cool beach side footage. If you want amazing flying, with 4k footage, and 3 batteries for almost continual flight, and perfect FPV look no further. The Fly more combo is the one!

I have two other DJI drones - a Mavic 3 and an older Air 2. The other two, having the more "traditional" flight controllers, are fairly simple to fly. They move somewhat slowly, have 360-degree obstacle avoidance, and use a separate device, like your phone, for camera view. The latter allows me to see what the camera sees but still allows me to see around me and see the drone. I've been wanting an FPV drone, but all I had been familiar with were the "racing" style drones and, frankly, didn't think I would be able to control it without crashing into everything. The Avata 2 removes all my trepidation. The motion controller is very intuitive - where you point is where you're going. The goggles, while amazing, do take some getting used to; I struggle with the urge to move my head to turn the camera but you don't need to. And I love that you can double-tap the side of the goggles to activate the front-mounted cameras and "see through" the goggles to see around you. Great for seeing your gear without having to remove them. Bottom line - the Avata 2 might be even easier to fly that my other two. You just point and go! I have discovered that flying the Avata 2 is amazingly simple. No, there are no obstacle avoidance sensors, and that still makes me a bit nervous. But it is amazingly sturdy and the propeller guards mean it is far less likely to get tangled if you do bump into things. Battery life is commendable. One thing to note - while my kit is the "Fly More" combo that came with three batteries and the charging hub, it did NOT include a power source to charge everything up. You have to bring your own. I ended up buying another multi-port USB charging station to keep in my gear cases. The video quality is AMAZING! I haven't experimented with all of the acrobatic features yet, nor have I spent enough time with it to be fully proficient with it, but I have no doubt the Avata 2 will be a very welcome addition to my drone and photography toolkit.

I want to start this review out by saying if you are a hardcore drone enthusiast my review is probably not for you. But if you are a relative newbie my review may be helpful. If you have been researching drone flying you may have been a little intimidated or overwhelmed by all of the info. Don't be! The DJI Avata 2 Fly More Combo is definitely a nice option for even the most novice of users. I will quickly point out the obvious...make sure you learn the laws, requirements, and restrictions for where you plan to fly. Also, until you get comfortable with piloting your drone try to pick a wide and clear area to learn so you can avoid any oops moments. Trust me, it won't take long for you to get the hang of it. Setup is fairly simple and clear cut. Register your drone with the FAA, make sure you charge all 3 batteries (you will be glad that you do it so the fun can last longer), make sure you have done all of the current updates, get yourself a memory card, and get familiar with the drone and it's accessories before setting out to fly. Flight options are pretty intuitive but the standard mode should definitely be your starting point. This was my first experience with a FPV drone and it did not disappoint. The RC Motion Controller was easy to use and made it fun. You could opt to purchase a "better" controller separately but it isn't necessary to enjoy your experience. The Goggles 3 are comfortable and do a decent job of making you feel like you immersed in the flight if you are realistic in your expectations. Camera quality is excellent and will meet or exceed most users needs. Ultimately I feel like this is a great drone for most users if you're just wanting to use it for personal fun or if you want to expand your content creation.

TL;DR – Easy for a beginner. Intuitive, durable, stable, quality, and fun. Clear photos and videos. Pros: – Durable and quality components – Intuitive to control – Clear photos and stable videos – Works great in a breeze – Corrective goggles means no glasses – Multi battery charging hub Cons: – Crashed running Return To Home – Needs more charging cables – Needs longer USB-C cord – No wall warts I'm just getting into drones so I was a little apprehensive to get a drone at this level but I am extremely impressed. The Beginner Mode was perfect. It kept things slow paced so you had time to assess your surroundings and get used to the controls. Also DJI has an amazing collection of videos to step you through everything you need to know. After the videos I felt pretty comfortable with my first flight. The goggles have corrective lenses that were perfect so that I didn't have to wear my glasses. I don't think you could wear glasses with these goggles. I was worried about the single handed controls because I've always used a two handed controller for drones. Surprisingly the goggles step you through the controls and its far easier then I thought even compared to a two handed controller. Everything is very fluid so you can control the drone and the camera naturally. Some annoyances I ran into right away were that you need to plug in the charging hub, controller, and goggles for them to charge but they only give you one short USB-C-to-USB-C cable and no wall warts. I had to hunt around to find enough unused cables and wall warts to get everything charged. The charging hub takes a long time to charge with just a regular phone charger. Also you need to hook your phone up to the goggles to do firmware updates and to have a second viewing screen, but the short provided cable is worthless for that. Once I was up and flying I was impressed that the drone was very stable with a 10 mph breeze. Other drones flew erratic in less. The goggles were very crisp and comfortable. They also have a real world view so that it's a picture in picture with the drone camera and your surroundings. I flew over my roof as if checking for damage with no problems and great detail. Flying high over an open space area was easy as well. One major problem I had was that there's a Return To Home feature when the battery is getting low. I had this situation when the drone was maybe 10 to 15 feet away so I let it initiate that process. It came back at me very fast and smashed into the side of my house behind me hard enough to mark the house. Then it fell 10 feet on to the concrete. This was startling, worrisome, and disappointing. Luckily, one of my favorite features on the drone, the built in propeller guards, saved the day. These are super sturdy unlike all the useless plastic wire ones I've seen. As far as I can tell all that happened was some scuffs on the guards and the bottom. The sensors and camera surprisingly were still intact. Even though that tested out it's durability I now have no trust in the Return To Home feature or the proximity sensors. Since I'm a beginner there's still a lot to this drone that I haven't explored. I like that I'm able to still use it as a beginner and have plenty of room to grow as I get more experienced. I took it out of Beginner Mode and there was a noticeable speed increase. I was able to do flips with a click of a button. This drone has so many features with video and photography. There's goggle defog and head tracking. I would recommend this to someone new wanting to get into drones. Very quality made product.

Purchased this drone and after attempting to fly one time in an open area , I found it very complicated to fly with this motion controller. So I went to return it and they tell me I have to pay a $180.00 restocking fee. No body ever mentioned to me at the time of initial purchase that there would be a a restocking fee if I returned the item. This is why your stores are closing and Amazon is dominating because of your little games you play with your customers.

DJI's refreshed Avata 2 FPV drone is a total blast! I am a total FPV newbie and frankly was skeptical about being able to get my money's worth out of this style of drone. All the on-line videos I'd ever seen were impressive but seemed totally beyond my piloting skills. But, somehow, DJI has created the perfect product for me! I've rediscovered that initial thrill of flying drones again! The package is comprised of three discrete but interconnected devices that sync seamlessly and provide an integrated and totally immersive experience. As with their other "Fly More" bundles DJI provides sensible additional components to protect your investment and to keep you flying longer. I highly recommend you buy it. Getting started is quite simple. After unpacking the batteries, goggles, controller and drone you plug everything in to get started with charging. The unit does NOT include a USB-C charger so make sure you've got one (or more) handy. One quick bit of advice - if you use a standard cellphone charger it will work but it charges VERY slowly. I found a 65 watt brick and the difference is impressive! After charging you will load the latest DJI fly app on your phone, connect the goggles to the phone and activate the units and update the firmware on all three devices. I found the process to run without a hitch although it does take some time. I was apprehensive about using the goggles. I'm at an age where I need reading glasses and I wasn't sure I'd be able to dial the goggle's lenses in. NO PROBLEM! There are a number of adjustments that you can make on the fly and I was immediately able to dial in a reasonably sharp image. The ergonomics on these is amazing. DJI has obviously given some serious thought to design including padded adjustments for distributing the weight on your head and adjusting the strap tension and fit. The controls mounted on the goggles themselves offer a comprehensive suite of actions and the entire product has a quality feel that reduces any fatigue while wearing them. Another issue that seems to be solved with the Avata 2 is syncing the devices. It just WORKS! I had no trouble getting everything to recognize each other and was flying almost instantly. The controller was a brand new experience for me. I've never been a video game guy and I was curious to see how long it was going to take for me to understand this interface. Good news, DJI ships the drone in a "Beginners Mode" that slows everything way down and allows you to practice flying and controlling the drone. So much so that I was confident doing my initial flights indoors! Something I would have never dared with any other drone. The drone itself has been designed to acknowledge the higher likelihood of crashing since a product like this is flown way differently than traditional drones. High speed, sharp turns, flying through small spaces all pretty much eliminate any effective obstacle avoidance so bumping into things is inevitable. Fortunately this little drone is SOLID! It has ducted propellers, a latching battery and a rugged camera mount. So, though there may be a few scuffs, everything is surviving my learning curve! The drone also offers an impressive amount of on-board storage for recording video so you don't immediately need an SD card. Flight time is impressive - I am finding a real-world time in excess of 15 minutes, and the recharging station is a gem! In addition to the smart sequential charging scheme the unit offers the ability to have other batteries accumulate their charges into a single battery to give you that one-last-flight option that you wouldn't have been able to enjoy. In summary, don't let your apprehensions about FPV keep you away from rediscovering the delight of drone flying. Buy the Avata 2 and go have some fun!!!

This is definitely a big upgrade from the less sophisticated drones I've used. For one, this DJI system is clearly more integrated with regulations, etc. More about that in a minute... The hardware is well constructed, and I appreciate the 3-battery charging cradle. From what I can tell, it charges one battery at a time in serial fashion. The battery on the drone, itself, snaps in easily and blends in nicely. Speaking of the drone, it feels sturdy, yet nimble, and is built in such a way that it can take a few bumps without worry. Also, the video quality is really nice. The goggles took a minute to really get a comfortable fit, but once I got through that, usability was so natural. The goggles are a "central hub" of sorts for the entire system: You connect it to your phone for updates, etc. and the drone and controller connect through the goggles. Software setup was a little confusing for me at first, but soon I understood where things were. The app has MANY options, but not too many as to be overwhelming - especially once you play around to see what things do. (Tip: The "Turtle Mode" is a favorite when the drone gets stuck upside down!) Related to the app, I actually couldn't immediately fly my drone since the software noticed I was just inside an Authorization Zone - essentially an area under regulatory restriction. The DJI app provides instruction to apply for a temporary exception waiver...and once you put in a bunch of personal information, that waiver was essentially automatic (at least for where I am located). But again, it's only temporary. The app controls all of this and seriously stops you from using the drone unless it's sure you're outside of any restricted space. That's a good thing. ...Oh, and the app also allows you to track your drone should it get lost. That is fantastic. Finally...I've been using the two-joystick style drone controller. I'm terrible at it. The single-handed controller (with the goggles) feels so much more intuitive to pilot and I was navigating the Avata 2 like a boss in no time.

DJI continues to outdo themselves in the drone and especially the FPV drone world and the DJI Avata 2 is no exception. I have worked my way up from the DJI Mavic Air, Air 2, FPV, and now the Avata 2 and the Avata 2 has blown me away so far. Out of all the DJI drones I have worked with, the Avata 2 is easily the most robust, heavy duty, streamlined, but also drastically lighter in weight. As I was unboxing the Avata 2 I noticed that DJI has even drastically improved their packaging and the case the drone comes with. As a photographer I have always appreciated a nice gear bag, and I really appreciate the bag that came with my DJI Mavic Air 2, but the bag for the Avata 2 has blown me away, it comes already stocked with all the extra accessories and is organized for you so opening it all up and going through everything feels like christmas morning. Setting up this drone was very easy starting with just charging the goggles, controller, and three drone batteries in their docking station. The first charges took a while so do not expect to be able to fly this within minutes of taking it out of the box. Once charged the activation process was fairly simple, as an android user the app gave me some difficulties. My phone was blocking the download of the app that was needed to activate the drone, but I was able to use a different browser on my phone and got it downloaded, from there it was smooth sailing. As far as flying this drone, the joystick has been a harder learning curve than I was expecting. Since all of my previous drone flying experience was done with a two handed controller and all the controls have been the same across all models, all of a sudden having a one handed control/joystick has been different. I think I prefer the two handed controller and hopefully DJI offers that option in the future for operators that are used to this control method. I did enjoy the Head Tracking Mode though as that was new to me it was pretty easy to get the hang of. The battery life is satisfactory, especially compared to older models. This price point may seem a bit much but for all the accessories and spare pieces DJI includes in this Fly More Combo, it is worth it, there are really no other accessories or items you will need to buy and the fact that it all fits compactly in its case that I love is so nice. This drone will be great for both new drone pilots and also veteran drone pilots who are looking for something different. I am only giving 4 stars due to the joystick controller and not a standard controller option in the fly more kit.

Great drone. Especially for new or beginners to droning. If you been doing this for a while i would say wait, because the new googles and controller only work on the Avata 2 and a couple more and are not cross compatible.
