This is my second DJI product I have purchased. The goggles really take the drone experience to another level. The only negative is the battery flight time of the drone. It’s better to purchase multiple batteries.

    Good Toy, Bad For Videos...

DJI makes cool stuff, and this drone is really neat. I was FAST, fun, and easy to use. I wanted to use it for making videos, but it wasn't really made for that. The Mavic Air 2 is so much better for videos than this drone. The props are almost always in the shot, and the stability isn't there for good video. This drone is a toy at best, and not a useful tool for good video.

The overall capabilities of the drone is awesome and exceeded my exceptions. The down side of the drone is the battery life is still leaving much to be desired. I have even purchased the extended flight pack but still requires limited flight capabilties.

      Dear customer,

Sorry for the unpleasant experience caused. The maximum battery life of the FPV battery is 20 minutes. (40 km/h constant speed flight in a windless environment) The power consumption of the battery may be affected by the flight environment, flight speed or flight mode. And we will also convey your feedback to the corresponding team. Thank you for your support and understanding.

      Best Regards,

The DJI FPV drone has opened a new world for FPV beginners. It makes it an easier transition into FPV drone flying. I did say “easier” but not fluid. I have flown mini drones around the house and yard for fun, and the typical cinematic quad, but this is a totally different beast! First things first, after unboxing make sure that you charge the batteries fully because if you don’t, installing the firmware is going to be a pain! After figuring out that my batteries were not sufficiently charged and charging them fully (which takes about an hour for the drone battery and upwards of 2 hours for each the controller and goggles battery), I was able to install the multiple firmware updates for all the devices which added another 10—15 minutes. Ok, after the drudgery is done, it’s time to dive in full steam ahead, with caution of course. Now there are a ton of videos out explaining the intricacies about this DJI FPV and why or why you shouldn’t buy this as your first FPV drone. I am a total noob to FPV flying and am going to speak of the features for people like me that want a chance to experience a whole new world of drone flying without all the work and knowledge of building. Granted, this thing does hit the pocket hard, but you get a heavy hitter drone for a beginner FPV pilot. Skipping all the hardware descriptions of the drone itself, it’s awesome just look at it, and watch a video of it to get the full picture…. The important stuff for us beginner FPV flyers…. it has built in training modes (flight modes – Normal (typical DJI quad flying at lowers speeds and obstacle “avoidance”, Sport – turbo charged DJI quad mode at higher speeds minus the obstacle avoidance, and if you are brave enough at this point… Manual for total and limitless control of the drone at breakneck speeds! I have started in Normal mode just to make sure there wasn’t a ton of differences in flying this DJI drone than what I’ve experienced before with DJI, and doubtless to say it was a full on DJI flight experience. So, I kick it up a notch and switch over to Sport mode, I am immediately prompted that “obstacle avoidance” is disabled. Ok, no biggie, I have plenty of fly space around, so I give it some juice…… and off she goes! Sport mode is a turbo charged Normal mode with some big differences to me. First off it has much noticeable speed and reaction to controls. When you turn, it feels like the drone is doing some of the work for you with yaw/roll which is good for beginners like me at these speeds. Via the goggle prompts I can keep track of all the telemetry readings, and I notice that I am zipping around at 58 mph! So, I remember that I have an “emergency brake” button and wanted to try it out. I hit the brake, and OMG, the drone scared the crap out of me as my visual in the goggles shoots straight up to the sky for a split second, but then realigns with the horizon, and I notice I am just hovering peacefully. Awesome! Alright, back to flying… I only got a few minutes left as displayed in the goggle read out, so I test out the RTH (Return To Home) which is activated by pressing and holding the Brake button. The drone automatically starts doing its thing perfect, I cancel the RTH and continue to get some flying time before I’m forced to land. The battery finally prompts low battery RTH, so I let it cycle through the prompts and the 5 second count down. If not cancelled the drone returns to the home point which is amazingly augmented in your goggle display. I do not interfere with the auto landing process to see how accurate it is…. impressively it lands within 2 – 3 feet of where we took off. One battery is all I have so far, so after about 45-minute charge time I’m ready to go again. This time I want to make an attempt at Manual mode. The directions say to tighten the screw to prevent the throttle from springing back to center and overriding or confirming Manual mode is wanted through the goggle menu. Did all that just to be proper and get the full experience. Now mind you I did do some of the virtual flight simulator, not gracefully I might add. Take-off easily again and straight into Sport mode. Normal mode is a thing of the past unless I’m using it for photography. So, like in the simulator I gain some altitude just to be safe from crashing. Switch into Manual mode with one finger readily on the brake button. Follow the prompts and get into Manual mode…. oh my what an experience!!!! Very disorienting for a newbie and somewhat difficult to master right out the box if you don’t have experience in full on FPV free flight. Needless to say, it did not take long for me to hit the brake button which safely put me in a hover and switched automatically to Normal mode. The emergency brake button is awesome and gives me the confidence that I will be able to learn the Manual mode in time. For now, its Sport mode for me. I’ve been having a blast flying around and testing the capabilities of this DJI drone. The camera is just ok for photos, and the video footage recorded directly from the drone is amazing to me in both 4k and 1080. But I’m sure the camera wasn’t built for photos… Now you can record in the goggle also, but it seems to be at a lower resolution and fitted more for safety and retrieval if necessary. The camera is only on a one axis gimble which gives an airplane type flight experience which is fine for me. It lets me know that I am moving and at relatively high speeds for a drone. The field of view is awesome through the goggles, and yes, you can wear prescription glasses in the goggles. My frames are medium sized, and it is a tight fit but nothing cumbersome. I tried wearing the goggles without any corrective vision (contacts/glasses) and it was blurry as it would be not wearing the goggles, so if you wear glasses normally, you will need them or contacts to clearly see in the goggles. I set all the parameters to give me the best footage in the drone and the best view with range in the goggles. I have yet to test the full range (distance) of the drone with fear for losing it, but I was comfortably able to get it out to about 2 miles! It was clear and steady. The goggle telemetry tells you everything you need to know to confidently fly safely. I am hopeful that with enough time in the flight simulator and careful flight practice, that I will master the full FPV experience flight. For a beginner it is no doubt disorienting and a difficult cross-over from the typical quad, but for me DJI has nailed it with this FPV drone!
