Already great drone gets a boost with new firmware
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The recent firmware update included two amazing additions, D-log M for the tele camera and Vision Assist. The first is pretty self explanatory, it now allows all three cameras to shoot in the same log color profile making color grading and scene matching much easier than before. A great time saver while editing and offers a more consistent final product. The second addition, Vision Assist, is an even higher value add as it offers an additional layer of protection while operating the drone. The live obstacle avoidance feed displayed on the remote controller's screen offers an unparalleled level of situational awareness. It allows pilots to navigate through challenging environments with confidence, knowing that they can see and avoid obstacles in real time. This feature is particularly valuable when flying in confined spaces, close to trees, buildings, or in areas with complex terrain. The DJI Mavic 3 Pro sets a new standard for consumer drones. It combines cutting-edge camera technology, impressive flight performance, and a host of intelligent features in a sleek and portable package. Whether you're a professional photographer, filmmaker, or simply an enthusiast looking to capture breathtaking aerial content, the Mavic 3 Pro is a compelling choice that offers the very best in terms of image quality and performance. While it comes with a premium price tag, the Mavic 3 Pro delivers exceptional value for those who demand the best in aerial photography and videography.

Flying In Style
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Mavic 3 Pro is a content creator's dream. Below are my thoughts: [PROS] Video Clarity: The shots from this device are gorgeous, and the zooming is incredible. I'm able to zoom into different subjects without any downgrade in quality. Final video outputs are sharp with great color accuracy I might add making my job much easier when it comes to editing. Controls: I was able to maneuver the Mavic 3 Pro which much ease. Traversing around and about different objects was steady, and I was heavily aided by the active tracking when attempting to capture a bird or two at the park. Flight Duration: In my usage, I was able to average about 37 minutes of flight time. I did peak at 39 minutes before I needed to juice up the drone again. [CONS] Camera switching: The drone moves about pretty good from the remote, but does suffer from delays when wanting to switch cameras in order to achieve the best shot. This will surely cause some frustration if you haven't properly strategized on how to capture the shot. Active Tracking at Night: Although the active tracking works well in the day time, it could pose problems at night. I noticed that depending on certain lighting conditions, subjects can get lost. To mitigate, I opt to just use a wider shot which still products enough detail for a nighttime shot. [CONCLUSION] I think the Mavic 3 is excellent for recreational and professional work. I'm really impressed with how powerful the device is, and it's extremely feature rich. I'm excited to use it even further and enhance my creativity. I would highly recommend it.

excellent image quality and maneuvering
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Magic 3 Pro is the newest and shiniest member of DJI’s consumer drone line. Build quality and feel in hand is typical for DJI’s high end market, with the drone folding up nicely with a holster to keep the arms and rotors stable. The beautiful screen on the controller makes initial setup so intuitively easy as it shows you a clear diagram of what to do step by step. Once initialized, there was an initial firmware update required which began downloading immediately. Then, onto flying. Controls were smooth and even despite some stronger gusts than usual here in Texas, the drone was extremely stable and manageable. The biggest update for the Mavic 3 Pro is that there are 3 cameras. The primary camera is a Hasselblad 24 mm camera, which Hasselblad is a legendary name for all things photog. The two additional cameras are telephoto lenses which produced fine images, but for my uses (family videos and photos during our trip) the 70 mm camera seemed to hit the sweet spot on quality for both video and photos. One nice feature that stuck out was that you could look up your flight zone and see if there are any restrictions on flying a drone. Amazing quality, with a nice bag to hold everything. Won’t be able to step down to lower level drones after using this. Highly recommend.

Smarter flight control and huge camera upgrades
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The DJI Mavic 3 Pro is my second quadcopter from DJI and a surprising improvement in several ways from the Air 2S that I've had for about 2 years. Looking at the feature set, I expected the most noticeable upgrades from my Air 2S to be the standard Hasselblad lens and two telephoto zoom cameras. What I found is that while the cameras are amazing upgrades, there are several other features of the Mavic 3 Pro that make it easier to get more creative shots in difficult places. Being able to be more confident with the drone with trees around can let you take advantage of that Hasselblad lens and make the zoom lenses less necessary. And for times when you can't get close, the two different levels of zoom let you frame your shots more easily without having to jockey for position in the sky. I was a little concerned that the RC controller having a screen would be a noticeable downgrade from the older controller using my phone as the display. My phone is both better quality and larger than the built-in 5.5" display. That said, it turns out it's kind of nice to have a purpose-built display just for the Mavic. The display is bright enough to use on a sunny day and responsive enough that it's not a drop off from a top tier smartphone. The Mavic 3 Pro has significantly improved flight capabilities from my from my Air 2S. The visual collision avoidance sensors prevent you from manually flying into obstacles in every direction, and the autopilot/"ActiveTrack" capability is a huge improvement when walking through dense foliage. I had no problems walking around the woods with the drone following me every step of the way, gliding under and around tree branches to keep me in frame, even when I would change orientation to have it fly to my right or left and not following directly behind me. I'm frankly amazed at what it's capable of in this regard. On a windy/turbulent day, I noticed that there seems to be a lot more thrust on tap from the 4 motors, as well as improved image stabilization from the cameras and gimbal. Where my Air 2S would have been buffeted a bit more, the Mavic 3 Pro proved to get a nice stable shot on a gusty day. Some other features I wanted to call out for how convenient they make the Mavic 3 Pro: 1) Having the ability to rapid charge two batteries at once is HUGE. If you have an extra 100W PPS charger, you can get full charging speed by charging a battery off the drone itself. Even without PPS, a standard 100W USB-C charger will probably only lose a minute or two of charging speed. Thanks to this capability, I can use the included 100W charger to charge one battery off the included triple charging tray, and use another 100W charger to connect through the Mavic 3 Pro itself, giving me 200W charging speed. Using a solar generator that has 100W USB-C plus an AC plug, I have used this to great effect at a picnic to juice up two batteries quickly. This is a HUGE bonus that takes a little sting out of the high price of this drone by eliminating the need to pick up an extra charger. 2) The fast wireless transfer directly between the drone and your phone. With my Galaxy S22 Ultra, connecting to the Mavic 3 and copying 4K/60 videos was faster than using a microSD card reader would have been once you factor having to pop the memory card out and connect your reader. Well thought out and implemented feature. There are only two minor negative I can think of for the Mavic 3 Pro vs my older Air 2S. I miss the included adapter that let you charge USB devices using your drone batteries. This was a decent way to drain a battery you charged fully but ended up not needing to use for flight. Second is the design of the microSD slot is kinda difficult to use with a battery inserted, especially if you keep your fingernails short. The slot is "upside down" so the lip that would make it easier to grab your card ends up facing the battery without enough room to get a finger under it. With the battery popped out, this is a non-issue, and honestly I think I'll be using the wireless transfer feature more anyway. In the next few weeks I'm hoping to get some great action shots chasing an ATV around a farm with the Mavic 3 Pro, and I'll try to pop back into the comments of this review with how that turns out. For now, this already gets two big thumbs up from me.

Connectivity issues but awesome
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hasselblad is the most expensive camera on the market. To integrate that technology with this drone makes a lot of sense for the price. For all the camera nerds: f/2.8-f/11, 20MP, 4/3" CMOS Sensor. Coupled with a Medium Tele Camera: f/2.8, 48 MP, 1/2" CMOS, 7x zoom, 28x Hybrid zoom. The camera supports raw photos with a dynamic range of 12.8 stops. There are sensors all around the drone for object/ obstacle detection. I tried to fly it into a tree and it stopped within 3 ft of the tree. I tried to land it on top of myself and it stopped within two feet above me. The touch screen on the controller acts just like a tablet. After updating the firmware and connecting to the drone through Bluetooth I was allowed to control the drone. There is a tracking feature that automatically follows the subject keeping a certain distance away from it. The distance between the drone and the controller can it go as far as 15 km before experiencing a connection failure. I experienced some connectivity issues when using the integrated app. In order to me to access the cloud for any pictures or video that I recorded, I have to disconnect from the controller and reconnect to my mobile device to download it onto my phone. There is an SD card slot inside the controller and the drone to skip this step, download straight to the controller and then transfer the SD card to a computer. The drone comes with two extra batteries, a charge station for all three batteries, USB-C ports to charge from anywhere, a muzzle type clasp for securing the drone, two sets of spare propeller wings, and a beautiful carrying case to fit it all

Buyer beware
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The image quality is good on this drone, however the software is hot garbage. It will randomly save over existing videos, completely erasing the footage. I've wasted a lot of shots due to this software issue. I would avoid getting this drone for now; don't end up as the guniea pig that's essentially beta testing it for DJI at a hefty price tag.
