This thing takes EXTREMLY good pictures and videos. Easy to fly but you should always practice first. The FlyMore combo is mandatory if your gonna spend any time having fun with it. Buy a tablet mounting bracket and use a small tablet for the display. using a phone is like watching netflix on your phone. Reason for the 3 stars is the flight restrictions in the software and the price. HOWEVER, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

I owned a Mavic Pro for about 4 years and really liked it until I crashed it along the Oregon coast. Never figured out what I did wrong. Immediately tried to replace it, but couldn't find a Mavic Pro in stock at Best Buy. So I bought the Mavic Air 2. It had great reviews, and wanted something fast (I was on a road trip). Such a disappointment versus the Mavic Pro. The main beefs are: 1) this drone doesn't work with DJI goggles ! That's insane !; 2) there's no timeline battery level indicator on the app flying screen ! The Mavic Pro showed a very useful battery life oval along a timeline and an "H" oval showing how much time was needed to go home. You always had an easy visual to see when to get home, and could adjust your return home accordingly if you were concerned about wind, etc. This drone has an automatic RTH. You never know how you're doing with relation to how long it takes to get home ! You know it can't compensate for wind ! I can't trust this thing. This is a second rate drone.

Overview: This is the first drone I’ve ever owned, I had considered purchasing one in the past for my vacations, but didn’t. The whole drone scene seemed a bit overwhelming, especially if you don’t know anything about drones, there are so many different drones available, you have to learn how to fly it, not crash and know where you’re allowed to fly it. After spending 4 days with the Mavic Air 2, I can tell you it’s not as complicated as I had thought! Anyone can be up and running within 30 minutes! Unbox, assemble propellers, charge the batteries and register with the FAA. Tip: when you register your drone, make sure you go to the official FAA website: https://www.faa.gov/uas/getting_started/register_drone/ I mistakenly googled “FAA drone” and clicked on a link without paying too much attention, it took me to faadrone.org instead of the .gov site, (I had inadvertently clicked the top google ad that showed up). It’s a 3rd party drone registration site that tries to charge you $30 instead of $5! Good thing I realized my mistake before I submitted my info. Unboxing and assembly: I have to say, this is one of the nicest unboxing experiences I’ve had, everything about it feels and looks like a quality product! The drone, remote and all the accessories are neatly packed inside the soft travel bag. In addition to the drone and remote, the Fly More kit includes 2 extra batteries (total of 3), total of 12 propellers, charger, 3 neutral density filters, and 2 extra joysticks. Everything is packed neatly in individual plastic bags. To get started, you need to download the DJI Fly app, attach the 4 propellers, and charge up the batteries. The included charger can hold all 3 packs and the remote controller at the same time, I believe it may be charging the packs 1 at a time, since the LED blinks on 1 battery at a time. If you don’t want to carry the long charging bar with you, you can simply bring the cable, this will allow you to charge 1 battery at a time. Time to fly: Since I live close to a small airport, I had to drive 15 minutes to a nearby park to use the drone (this was one of the reasons why I didn’t purchase a drone 2 years ago). Once at the park, I did my pre-flight check, removed the gimbal protector, turned on both the drone and the remote. A bit nervous, I pressed the “auto take off icon” and the Mavic Air air came to life and lifted off the ground, it stopped a few feet off the ground and waited for my command. This thing is amazing, I was blown away at how easy this drone is to fly! It takes a few minutes to get used to the controls; the drone eliminates a lot of the dangers of flying such as taking off, landing and avoiding obstacles. After a few minutes, I felt confident enough to let my sons take a turn at flying it (ages 9 and 14). It would take more practice to get some nice, smooth video, but it’s not very difficult as I had imagined it would. Many, many years ago, I was really into RC cars. If you’re not used to driving a RC car at 35+MPH, you can easily crash it and damage it. This is not the case with this drone, I even had my son try to crash it into me, but the sensors wouldn’t allow him to. The handling of the drone is very smooth, it responds to commands quickly and is very predictable. When you’re done flying, you can manually fly it back to you or press the “H” button and the drone will return to where it started from. The sound emitted from the 4 propellers are a bit loud especially if you’re close by, it sounds like a loud swarm of bees. Conclusion: After testing this out for a few days, I’m hooked! I wish I had it with me when I on vacation visiting the National Parks of Utah! I’m looking forward for the beaches to open up so I can take this there and get some nice scenic videos. If you are considering getting a drone, definitely take the Mavic Air 2 out for a test flight. I’m not sure how this compares with other drones, but this one is very easy to get the hang of. I wish this included a more comprehensive manual, the quick start guide wasn’t too helpful aside from setting up the drone. I checked the DJI website, but there isn’t a comprehensive manual either. Perhaps it’s still in the works. On a side note, there are some helpful videos on the DJI website, I found the “First Flight” video very useful. Pros: - Easy to fly - Well-made product - Excellent video and photo quality - Fly more bundle includes everything you need Cons: - Lack of detailed manual

The carrying bag needs improvement. If you want to keep the drone protected during travel, I suggest getting a hard case.

Just What I've Been Waiting For

I've thought about buying a drone since they first came out but the flight time on the lower priced models were too short and the quality of the video and stills were too low. I mostly shoot landscape photos and videos and they have always been at eye level. I wanted a way to get a higher angle and a drone will really fit the bill. Unfortunately a lot of the places I like to shoot in such as National Parks and state parks prohibit drones but there are many other places to shoot around the country as long as I follow the map on the B4UFly app. To prepare myself for getting the drone, I started watching a lot of YouTube videos and reading up on drones to prepare myself. It turns out that flying the drone is very simple. The Mavic Air 2 is lightweight and small yet handles the wind very well. The first thing I did when I got it was charge the batteries, update the firmware and register the drone with the FAA. I then made up labels for the drone with the FAA registration number, my email address and my phone numbers and applied them to the drone in the event the drone got lost. I then took it out for it's maiden voyage.I picked up a 3 foot landing pad to prevent dust and pebbles from damaging the drone when it takes off. I set the pad on the ground, put the drone on top and got ready for takeoff. It was amazing to watch it start up for the first time as it lifted up off the ground and hovered at around 4 feet. Controlling it using the joysticks was as easy as playing a video game. The video and stills looked amazing. I couldn't believe the quality of the 4K video and still images when I looked at them afterwards. I didn't realize at first that there is no audio recorded in the drone along with the video. After all in the sky, what would you hear outside of the motors and the wind noise. The audio is recorded into the cached video on the phone and has to be exported and then mixed with the drones video but it's not that difficult. If you are trying to decide if you should buy the Fly More Combo, my answer is a definite yes. You get 2 extra batteries, a multiple battery charger, extra propellers, a carrying case, an extra set of joysticks and all the cables you could possibly need for whatever kind of phone you use on the remote control. All in all, the DJI Mavic Air 2 is great for a beginner like me or a big improvement if you are upgrading from a Mavic Air or Mavic Mini. You will have a lot of fun flying it.

I didn't rate it 1* or 5* so I thought 3* was just enough. Reason being, I wasn't able to fly it. I didn't realize my house was in a no fly zone even though it's miles away from the theme park that implemented the NFZ. Just writing this to warn potential buyers to first check to see if the area they want to fly it in is within a no fly zone.
