Still great but very disappointed
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sold my Mavic Air and decided to upgrade to the new Mavic Air 2. Planned on live streaming to Facebook but later found out that DJI removed that feature from this drone. Very disappointed to say the least. That was one of the main features I was relying on from the drone.

Amazing drone package for a beginner.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As the title says, I am a beginner to flying a drone. I was lucky enough to get my hands on the Mavic Air 2 Fly More combo and all I can say is, it's amazing. For under $1000 will get you a huge bang for the buck. The Mavic Air 2, 3 batteries, extra propellers, extra control sticks, 3 ND filters and a power charging bank that you can charge all 3 batteries at once all tucked inside a soft leather case. Quite a good deal. I would recommend this for anyone looking to get more air time. As a beginner this was contributory to me becoming a slightly better drone pilot, a little faster. I couldn't imagine flying for 30 minutes and then having to wait for the battery to charge to fly again. With the fly more combo, you fly for ~30 minutes, bring her down, change battery add a filter and fly some more....rinse and repeat for the last battery. In my opinion, the only real downfall is the bag could have been a little bit larger. I understand that the idea is for it to be compact, but jamming that much worth of drone things into a small soft bag makes me slightly nervous. I'll probably upgrade to an aftermarket hard case once I find one I like. Would the case stop me from getting this drone? No, this drone is legit. The Mavic Air 2 feels sturdy and substantial. It has some weight to it and feels well built. The controller is apparently different from previous DJI drones as the phone is attached to the top instead of the bottom. It may be weird to you if you were used to an older controller but it feel perfect to me. It makes sense to have the phone on the top, but I'm a noob and its all preference, I assume. Performance wise I am super impressed with the functionality of this little drone. A 1/2" sensor that can catch 4k video at 60fps, HDR photo/video, 8k hyperlapse, 48mp photo. It has some built in modes like Focus Track, where it tracks you from different angles all while avoiding obstacles and quickshots where you can achieve some pretty cool camera effects really easily with the push of a button. I sent the first real video I took to a few friends and they all were amazed, one said it looked like a movie. The user interface on the DJI Fly app takes a little getting used to, but I'm slowly getting the hang of it. I almost ran into a tree the other day trying to land and it started beeping and paused right where it was. It also has ADS-B that notifies you when there is an aircraft somewhere near you. I had this happen to me on my first flight. I was about 150 feet up and it notified me before I could hear or see the plane that would soon fly over. Crazy! This drone is supposed have a distance of around 6 miles away, no chance in me getting close to that but that's a pretty cool feature and speaks to the overall range of it. All in all, if you're looking to drop some cash on a drone and you want to be able to either fly it for around an hour before having to take it in and charge it? Get the fly more combo pack, you'll be amazed. Whether your a beginner like me or looking to upgrade your current drone, I absolutely recommend this product.

Excellent drone for first time flyer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Rather than go through the long list of features, this review will focus on what it’s like to be a first time drone owner as an advanced amateur photographer. Lots of photo hobbyists like me are now interested in capturing aerial landscapes, and perhaps expanding into video as well. TL;DR the Mavic Air 2 is a good foray for a first time drone owner, especially if you get the Fly More package. The biggest downside is it uses a 0.5” CMOS sensor, which generates a 12 MP image. With clever engineering, it can shoot at 48 MP as well. I normally takes photos with an APS-C DSLR, and its 1.11” sensor delivers fantastic images, with little noise in low light or shade. To get that level of quality here, you would have to upgrade to the more expensive Mavic 2 Pro. The second biggest downside is the aperture is fixed at f/2.8 for both photo and video, unlike the Mavic 2 Pro’s variable f/2.8 to f/11. And the final major downside is the Mavic Air 2 uses the consumer oriented DJI Fly app instead of the more advanced DJI Go app used by the Mavic 2 Pro and original Mavic Air. So even if you’re willing work with the narrower hardware capability, the software (and perhaps firmware) doesn't let you stretch it to its full use. For example, you cannot tweak the video capture settings for saturation, sharpness and contrast in order to record a less “crispy” movie. And, more importantly, you cannot fly by waypoints (except in 8k hyperlapse) to pre-define your flight path. I hope waypoints will be added in a software update, as was the case with the original Mavic Air. Now that the downsides are out of the way, there’s a lot to like about this drone. It has a nice selection of pre-defined video shots you can use, as well as auto-sensing photo shots. So while you won’t use this to film an epic NatGeo documentary, it will be more than sufficient to get excellent travel videos and photos. If you get Mavic Air 2, know it will perform best in a narrower set of conditions than the Mavic 2 Pro. But, when it does that, the results are very good.
