Perfect drone for the perfect shot

The DJI mini 3 pro is the perfect on the go drone for your on the go needs. This drone packs quite a bit of options while offering 4k quality. The added upgraded remote with built in screen means you no longer have to worry about compatibility issues with your phone acting as a piggy back screen. The DJI mini 3 offers so many features for your streaming or photo needs that it would take up way to much space to go over them in all their entirety. I will try to focus on some of the key features that i felt helped it stand out. So right out of the gate rather your new to flying drones or an expert the DJI mini offers a free app that allows you to store and edit your footage. But besides that it also offers tutorial videos which help coach you in the way of basic and advanced features and videography. Charge time takes about almost 2 hours for a full charge and based on your settings you will get about 20 mins of run time. It does offer manual and automatic take off and landing however with the automatic return home feature you need to make sure that the drone has a clear path or it will not properly land. Speaking of which there was actually a few times i tried to use the auto return when hiking in the woods and the surrounding trees caused it to just pretty much give up and hover there forcing me to put it in sport mode and manually bring the drone home. There are 3 different modes available for flying offering 3 different styles. First is cinematic mode. In this mode the drones speed, pitch and yaw are all reduced allowing for smoother transitions and the cameras recording gets ramps up its picture quality. This mode allows for the cleanest most picturesque shots. Normal mode allows for the drone to utilize alot of the automated features and quite honestly feels like it should be labeled beginner mode due to all the over riding it does. Sport mode allows for full hands on deck manual controlling of the drone and maxes out the speed allowing you to keep up with all the fast pace action you are trying to capture. The app does have a "find my drone feature" which will give you a gps pinpoint location of its latest ping. The heads up display on the remote offers a google maps style layout which also shows some of the local no fly zones, however keep in mind it does not label all no fly zones so it is your responsibility to be aware of them. If you get too close to the no fly zones the drone will limit its altitude and speed. As far as max altitude and distance this is very heavily dependent of signal strength and interference. In the city parks i was able to get about half a mile out with a altitude of about 3000 feet. Now when i was out at a buddies ranch where his nearest neighbor was 3 miles down, i got a range of almost 4 miles out with a peak altitude of 5000 feet roughly. Keep in mind everyone's rang is going to vary however these were the two noticeable differences i saw. City flying definitely sucked as there was just way too much radio interference. Now as far as creator content goes this drone offers quite a bit of features and i am going to touch on just a few to give you a idea of what this drone is capable of. Active track is one feature that i used quite a bit. Within active track you can highlight people or cars that you would like the drone to track. You can manually set your distance then chose how you want the drone to track. On this feature you can chose to track the object through parallel or trace. With parallel the drone will fly alongside you automatically while avoiding obstacles along the way. Trace allows the drone to follow behind the highlighted object while avoiding obstacles as well. This feature eliminates the need for a hands on control to get your intended shots. Keep in mind that while it does have obstacle avoidance it is still prone to hitting objects so it really is best to use this feature in a open environment. Another feature that thought was pretty cool was its spiral shot. After highlighting the intended object and setting your distance the drone will spiral around the intended object while either gaining altitude and decreasing altitude. Combining this the cameras true vertical angles means you can really get some nice features for photo editing. Overall this is a awesome drone that is very compact and very light offering easy on the go storage. The price tag may seem hefty but when you really get in to all the AI features you soon learn it is money well spent. I have uploaded a shot i took in the mountains just to highlight its quality. Both the drone and remote do need a high speed micro SD card. And while it is not necessary to have a sd card in both of them to store footage it is necessary that the SD card be a high speed card. If you are looking to get the perfect shot for your stream or if you are a photographer trying to get those perfect wedding photos than this is a no brainer and a must have.

Not too happy so far. First flight had gimbal overload. Second and today the image is blurry. So maybe a total of 8 minutes it isn’t as smooth as the mini2. Also with super short flights unit is really hot.

    Compact, lightweight but huge capabilities

This drone is very nice. I decided to test this one to see how it compared to one I bought several years ago, however there are so many new features on the DJI Mini 3 Pro that comparing it with my older drone would be cruel I love the fact that the Mini 3 Pro is compact and lightweight, although I'm a bit concerned about how well the forward facing arms will hold up after repeated rotation during the unfolding/folding process... I guess we'll have to wait and see on that. One thing that stood out right after unboxing was that the box didn't contain a charger or a carrying bag. I have chargers that fit the bill, as well as an extra camera bag I can use when travelling, but for $900, they should just throw something in for good measure. Just out of the box, and after fully charging the drone and remote (a total of about 1.5 hrs), I ran into an issue when trying to set up an account. For some reason my entering of the captcha kept failing. Finally after 10+ attempts it succeeded and I was able to update the firmware for drone. Here again, I ran into issues. The download was VERY slow, and actually failed twice. Of course the drone was on during this whole process and when I checked it after the second failed attempt, it was quite hot, so I shut everything down and tried again after it cooled off. For the third attempt, I switched the remote Wi-Fi connection to 2.4GHz instead of 5, and everything went smoothly. I'm not sure what the problem was, especially since my phones and laptop, which were right there, were both connected to 5Ghz had great signal strength and bandwidth. My first flight made me realize how convenient it is to have a remote with a screen instead of having to use my phone. The video feed from the drone to the remote is flawless, even when the drone is behind trees (although more solid objects might change that). The flight controls are straight forward, responsive, and easy to use. I had the drone zipping around my property in no time, and was able to see the collision avoidance in action a few times when I flew past trees. The drone is extremely stable and responds instantly to commands. Even in slightly breezy conditions, there were no control issues. Flight time is supposed to be about 30+ mins, but I haven't pushed this one past 25 mins even though the on screen meter was showing more available flight time. As far as noise, the drone is fairly quiet, but I believe it might be a bit louder than my previous one... based solely on the reaction of the deer. They seem to pick it up and become wary at about 75-100ft, whereas the other drone could get within 50ft. Maybe it's just a different pitch and that's what they're reacting to. The only 'issue' I had with control was when there was too much glare on the screen. Although I love the screen being part of the remote, I did have trouble seeing it clearly at all times; on occasion, the sun created enough glare that the screen brightness couldn't compensate for it, and I had to find a tree for shade. However, at one point, I had lost sight of the drone, I was out in a field away from trees, and the sun popped out from behind clouds. I couldn't shield the screen well enough to tell which way the drone was facing, so I used the RTH button; the drone actually beat me back to the driveway. Other than the screen brightness, the video feed and other flight feedback on the remote is great. The gimbal on the drone is another huge plus. The ability to pan up as well as down is a huge advantage, and the capability to switch from landscape to portrait mode, and back, at the touch of a button on the screen is very useful. Again, the controls for camera tilt, as well as zoom, are well positioned and effortless to use; once you know they're there, you don't even have to think about using them, you just do. The video and pictures this drone produces are very nice, but for work related reasons I can't install the DJI Fly app, since it's not on the Apple or Google stores, so I have to pull the card from the drone, which isn't that really that big of a deal. Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed this drone for the short time I've had it. It's very compact and lightweight, and yet its performance for its size is quite incredible. If you're looking for a compact drone that will allow you to capture some amazing videos or still pictures, you should seriously take a look at this product.

Crazy features in this mini quad! Pros: - The quality of video and photos is the obvious place to start. With such a small/light quad, I wasn't sure about the quality of video with any amount of wind, but the AI processing takes care of it all and the ability to quickly switch between video/camera and flying/shooting modes on the remote is great - <250g weight means no license/FAA registration needed. Standard battery to achieve this still gets close to 30 minutes of flight - The auto-track feature is amazing. Having options to follow, pace, rotate... It isn't perfect when there isn't enough contrast between the object you want to track and the background, and some of the auto-track features require disabling the obstacle avoidance - Different shooting/flying modes are distinct and have their obvious reasons (normal, sport, cinema) - The range is amazing, and far surpasses what local regulations allow in terms of height and distance away from the operator - The remote is an underrated feature. Very intuitive and easy to get pro-level recordings even though true flight looks glitchy from the ground. The "return to home" feature and mapping are very accurate - DJI accessories and service. Sadly, I have firsthand knowledge of this already (see "Cons" below). They have already serviced my quad's gimbal at no charge even though I did not purchase the Best Buy/Geek Squad or DJI service plans Cons: - The obstacle avoidance feature isn't available during some shooting modes when it feels like it would be the most important - The camera gimbal is quite sensitive and vulnerable. I would invest in a purpose-built take-off/landing pad or carry a big piece of cardboard around. Taking off and landing, even from a driveway, stirs up enough dust that the gimbal got dirty. I received a "gimbal stuck" warning and ultimately had to send it to DJI for service Overall, I would definitely recommend getting some accessories. This is my first time owning a quad, though I've flown a few. I was surprised how easily the propeller blades get chipped and dinged. Along with the gimbal issues, I've purchased some blade guards and landing gear, as well as more replacement blades than I anticipated. These don't change my overall thoughts on this quad. I would also highly recommend watching as many "beginner" and "before you fly" YouTube videos as you can for this quad. I thought that I had watched enough, but have seen 3-4 while waiting for my Mini 3 Pro to be serviced and returned that I wish I had watched before!

This drone is very fast and zippy. It’s super easy up understand ands control now that we have a screen on the controller. I really don’t like using my phone as a screen, this is much better. It also paired faster than my other drone, and connected on the first try. The flight was smooth, and I didn’t drop connection at all. I flew it so high up I couldn’t see it anyone. Then I flew it out, until it was in another field far away. Stayed connected. The battery is rated at about 34 minutes, but it seems I could get more. I flew the first flight for about 10 to 15 minutes, Ana it dropped to 75%. The build quality is complete plastic, which is why it weighs 249g. Making it feel so fast when you take off. I mean it launched quickly. I only did a flight in normal mode, and it was still fast. I’ll try sport mode and cinesmooth mode later. The camera shoots great footage, and it has 1.2gb off built in storage. You’ll need to get a high powered sd card, that’s all that will work. My card was rated at slow, even though read/write is 96mb. If you want a powerful drone, that can go in any bag white you travel. This is it. That would probably be my only con, no carrying pouch included.

Firmware issue, after a little over 1 hr of total flight time. Rc controller would not calibrate even after hours of troubleshooting. Dji customer service reps are super under trained. They have no idea on the basics of how their products work. I came to this conclusion after speaking to several different ones over the phone. Its a nice drone when it works, i think i just got a defective one. I would recommend you buy a Best Buy protection plan. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

Review of DJI Mini Pro3 with RC. The DJI Mini 3 Pro is compact and light as the brand states. Although on physical hardware that would the main key point, the most impressive I find is it is packed with software features that work seamlessly with the camera and remote control as one. Its weight (include Flight Battery, propellers, micrSD) is 249grams (8.78ounces) which is slightly heavier than iPhone 13 Pro Max 1TB that weight 240grams (8.46 ounces). But actually hand on feels less heavier. The drone can be purchased with RC-NC1 model of remote control, or RC model of remote control or just the drone. The package I am reviewing is the one with RC which has 5.5 Inch HD Display with DJI Fly App pre installed in the remote control. Hence doesn’t require mobile phone. Aside of the remote control and drone, the package include: - Type-C to Type C PD Cable - Screwdriver - Screw - Spare Propellers (Pari) - Intelligent Flight Battery - Gimbal Protector Features are long list of options that can be combined for different purposes, and list most relevant and basic ones: -Max Ascent Speed: 5m/s (S Mode), 3 m/s (N Mode), 2 m/s (C Mode) -Max Descent Speed: 5m/s (S Mode), 3 m/s (N Mode), 1.5 m/s (C Mode) -Max Speed at sea level/no wind: 16m/s (S Mode), 10 m/s (N Mode), 6 m/s (C Mode) -Max Service Celling Above Sea Level with default battery Initelligent Flight: 4000m -Max Flight Time 34 min with the default battery Intelligent Flight -Max Flight Time 30 min with the default battery Intelligent Flight -Max Flight Distance 18km with the default battery Intelligent Flight (assuming 43.2 kph in windless condition according to DJI) - Max Wind Speed Resistance: 10.7 m/s (level5) -Global Navigation Satellite System: GPS+Galilero_BelDou - Sensing System for Forward/Backward/Downward - Gimbal Mechanical range Tile -135° to 80° / Roll -135° to 45° / Pan -30° to 30° - Gimbal Control range: Tilt -90° to 60° / Roll -90° to 0°. - Gimbal Stabilization 3-axis mechanical gimbal (tilt, roll, and pan) - Gimbal Control Speed Tilt 100°/s - Gimbal Angular Vibration Range ±0.01° - Camera 1/1.3inch CMOS / Effective Pixel 48MP - Lens FOV: 82.1° / Format Equivalent: 24 mm / Aperture: f/1.7 / Focus Range: 1 m to ∞ - ISO Range: Video: 100-6400 (Auto), 100-6400 (Manual) / Photo: 100-6400 (Auto), 100-6400 (Manual) - Photo Format: JPEG/DNG (RAW) - micro SD Card requirement: UHS-I Speed Class 3 or above is required. Above list is part of longer list of specifications but mostly relevant at first sight. (Full list at https://www.dji.com/mini-3-pro/specs) Starting the drone and operating was simple although had to get used to first to the meanings of pressing once or multiple time the power button in the drone. Have to press once to turn on, then press and hold to connect with the RC for instance. Then on the RC need to setup profile and go through before flight safety guidance if not already familiar, and it is good to review to be in the safe side and avoid possible accident where is possible. Having said that, the take off is by pressing the Take Off button from the application, and the landing button for Return to Home or Flight Pause. After that once on the air can be operated with control sticks from RC and quite fun to do so. Now DJI has packed with long list of features to be used in between while on the air that although it is mini and actually seems to align tot be named as the PRO label. This is because can three showing modes, can control the pixel of photo and camera which is basic but being possible on the flying camera with seamless control makes good drone to have. It allows to shoot vide on the move as pacing front of the person or side way, or variable, basic but enough to create good short video with good lenses. For flight control, also it provide option to limi the maximum altitude. But what I find fascinating to me is the Return to Home function based on Smart Return to Home, Straight Return Home, and Low Battery Return to Home. Each has different reason to be used but automatically return to the base depending on the conditions of manually initiated, or auto initiated or low battery label is triggered hence automatically returning. Then the last mode which still I haven’t tested is Failsafe Return to Home that occur under the condition of loosing the signal with remote control. The downside I experienced: 1. Life of battery: although the default battery that comes with drone says to last 34min, between connecting to RC and start flying, the flying time really doesn’t come to 34 minute to take advantage. As result the moment to make video and take pthotographs comes quite limited and have to calculate extra time for switching to second battery and take off and flip to the point where stoped to continue. Or have to wit to recharge the battery that takes longer. So it get bit frustrated the process. 2. The battery become too hot. Having made short flight, let say 5 min, or just having connected to RC, and the drone is very hot, 3. The drone specification states “10.7 m/s (Level 5)”, level five is about 19-24mph wind speed, which moves small trees, However, having flight in windy are that but less, as the drone is up on air I can feel how it loose stability easily. 4. Mobility: although the drone is light and compact comparison other versions, still bit bulky and the propeller doesn’t holds still such it wouldn’t break if placed in the backpack. Would be niche it comes with something to hold together so doesn’t get loosen and brake as replacement is bit pricey if have to replace multiple times. 5. While RC and drone are connected, and when there isn’t active the drone turn off automatically. However, the RC still show the view of camera. Although there isn’t actionable to it, as the Drone turn off, the view in RC should be closed and show the Home Screen. But this is just a small operations. There is long list of good thing to write about the facilitation of the creativity shooting video on the mov. But in overall it feels mature design of the drone and stable application not causing error without going in granular detail of some of features and it is impressive everything can be done for the size. As side note, DJI provides GeoZone that provide quite comprehensive view of zone that restriction or need to be aware of the area and which require unlocking process.
