The cast is great unfortunately like the "Guardians of the galaxy" movies I've never read the comic. Overall it's a good orgin story but the movie gets a little Matrix on me. I look forward to the next film. I have read it's going to have Scarlet witch in it.

From the outset where Marvel Studios shows off its brand new logo that features clips of its heroes in action from previous films rather than clips of art from their older comic books it is clear just how much of a brand this studio and their particular type of super hero films have become. What is more telling though, is just how aware Marvel is of this fact and how boldly they state their accomplishments in this re-branding of their title card. This slight boasting by the company sets up good and bad expectations for the film that proceeds it as Doctor Strange very much operates within the familiar world Marvel has built while at the same time reminding us of just how high Marvel can fly leaving this rule of a movie to be something of a letdown. Of course, that is the one glaring barrier all Marvel movies now have to overcome in how do they not just play as large scale TV episodes, but more singular stories that feel worthy of the big screen treatment. It's not necessarily that Dr. Stephen Strange isn't worthy of such treatment, but more in the pantheon of all Marvel has done before and all it plans to do in the future this initial outing with the soon-to-be Sorcerer Supreme feels as brisk and as superfluous to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as The Incredible Hulk now ranks. Not that Doctor Strange doesn't introduce a whole new dimension of possibilities to the MCU, but were this film to not work out the way Marvel expects it to for some reason they could essentially ignore its existence and move on with the physical dangers the film tells us The Avengers protect our world from. That won't happen, of course, but that's the type of indifferent feeling director Scott Derrickson's (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister) take on a Marvel property unfortunately conjures up. Making this worse is the fact that Doctor Strange features some of the more daring and downright trippy visuals that have been seen in a Marvel movie as well as some of the weirder sequences in the studios filmography that, while visually enchanting, make it even more apparent just how standard the narrative is. Why Marvel and Kevin Feige were willing to go out on something of a risky limb with their visuals as well as just how far Strange can push his powers, but not with the story that brings the titular Doctor into the world of magic and mysticism is a little perplexing, but at the end of the day it's clear this is a board room picture designed to change up Marvel's winning formula just enough so as to appear to be something new and different, but what in reality will rely on the same tricks that have guaranteed consistent hints for eight years now.

Another great 4K transfer for the Marvel Cinematic universe. Cool exclusive steelbook. Like this movie but one of my least favorite Marvel Cinematic universe films.

Kind of disappointed, not at the movie but at the 4K upgrade. Magic scenes are great but others are not a difference from the earlier blu ray release

I just wish they would give us the IMAX format in 4K.

Let me start by stating that I'm a huge Marvel fan and as a rule have enjoyed almost all the movies. Notable exceptions to that rule would be "Thor: The Dark World" and "Iron Man 2". I would say that Dr. Strange is a cut above those two movies in the fact that it's less schizophrenic on the story it's trying to tell. It's very clear what led Stephen Strange to this point and also illustrates very well how it's not in his nature to accept the fact that there is magic in the world that can't be explained by science. I think where the movie missed the mark a bit is in explaining his training and how he got to where he was. While he may have a photographic memory and retains all the spells, that doesn't explain how basically overnight he was able to master complex martial arts and basically stand up to a "master" in several spots in the movie. I guess it relies on the implied "just trust me, he learned it" but in doing so, I think it removes the believability (if you can use that in a movie like this) that the character could achieve the degree of capability needed. Additionally, the final battle in the movie was a bit anticlimactic and kind of leaves you going "so that's it?" at the end. While I would recommend, you shouldn't go into this movie thinking it's going to be a Marvel movie on par with "Avengers", "Winter Soldier", "Civil War", or even "Ant Man" (which was a surprise hit).

Not as strong or as good as other Marvel movies but still worth a watch. Would recommend but would pick up if only on sale.

This was a meh movie another rather obscure character to me but they pulled it off nicely no real complaints.

I thought that this movie was in 4k but realized after I got home it is not available in 4k.

Marvel continues to up the ante for their films. Way to go. Blu-Ray is top notch.

Good story and even better cgi make this another solid entry into the MCU.

It's great to get an introduction to the character before Endgame.

The Blu-ray of this movie provides a superior audio and visual experience. I read Marvel Comics as a young boy and I am very familiar with the Dr. Strange story. This may be why the movie disappointed me because of changes made from the original. My favorite Marvel Comic was the Fantastic Four and the two Fantastic Four movies were changed from the comic and in my opinion both movies were very bad. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Back to Dr. Strange, many parts of the movie stayed true to the Marvel Dr. Strange. I did not like the Ancient One being changed from an old man to a woman. In the comic, Baron Mordo was the primary villain who turned against the Ancient One. In the Dr. Strange Movie he was one of the good guys. I still recommend this movie as one to see and I suspect that if I had never read Marvel's version of Dr. Strange I would rate this movie higher.

I did not like this movie so much as the Avengers series.

So, spoiler alert! Stop now if you don't want to know more! Pro...adult humor, some action sequences, big names engaged in big acting. Plot holes in the MCU and loose ends get tied up. Cons....not true to the lore and actual comic history befitting a character as important as this one. If I had wanted a rehash of either the animated Dr. Strange or a rehash of the original comics origin story I would have simply watched the one or read the other. This was a waste of my energy as both a fan and a videophile. Cumberbatch did an amazing job with his performance as did the man who played Wong in this show...he also played Genghis Khan in Netflix' Marco Polo series, so, at least a couple of amazing pluses.

I purchased this movie after reading various 3d reviews. I had previously seen the movie so I knew what to expect in 2d. The 2d version had many big special effects throughout the movie so I assumed thst would translate very nicely into 3d. I was very dissapointed to say the least. It didnt look very deep at all and not many things popped visually. Id give it a 2 for 3d effects like most marvel movies. This will be the last marvel 3d movie I purchase. Animated movies tend to show 3d effects better with the exception if a hand full of movies.
