I ordered this thinking i would get all the goodies that come with it. Instead i got a basic 4K version. It was one box that had 2 DVDs inside and that was it. I was looking forward to getting the limited edition and was completely let down.

I want to give this 5 stars but theatrical cut seems vary choppy and studders makes the movie unwatchable. Was so excited for this and can't watch the movie everything else is such good quality that makes is that much more disappointing. I would wait till they fix the Theatrical cut before you buy. When it is fixed this is a must buy.

NO BLU RAY as in 1080p Copy. Only a 4k copy. At over $30 bucks they can't provide a 1080p copy. I am returning. .....Reason I want 2K copies is that I back up all my media on hard drives. 4K can be bulky and many times the quality is not much better if better at all.

It would be a 5 star review but the Theatrical Disc "shudders" I exchanged it at BB for another "shuddering" disc. Now I'm stuck with a defected disc & Arrow, the makers of the disc, hasn't returned my emails. Not sure what to do now.....

    Touches On Alternate/Parallel Realities

Due to my burgeoning interest in supernatural/celestial movies, I purchased this dvd of Donnie Darko; The Director’s Cut (Two-Disc Special Edition) on February 12, 2015. As many people know, this movie is about a Virginia teenager named Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal) who appears to be the only one who is able to see a spirit who has already died and crossed over to another world named Frank (James Duval). Donnie Darko is naturally at first leery of communicating with Frank but starts to trust him a little more after his life is saved from an aircraft crashing in his room. Both his parents Rose and Eddie Darko (played by Mary Mcdonnell and Holmes Osborne) and his siblings Elizabeth and Samantha Darko (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal and Daveigh Chase) care about Donnie Darko in their own way. However, even they are unsure on how to deal with what appears to be insane mind even though Donnie Darko’s unconventional communications with Frank allow him to glimpse into the future. Donnie Darko’s world brightens a bit when he falls in love with a teenage female named Gretchen Ross (played by Jena Malone) who is a newcomer to the Middlesex Virginia area. There are a number of other multiple famous people featured on this dvd; such as the late Patrick Swayze, Drew Barrymore, Seth Rogen, Ashley Tisdale etc.). However, the ending made me understand why my husband politely told me that it was a good thing that I had my Shania Twain concert dvd and a Strawberry Shortcake movie to watch for cheering me up afterwards. Even then, I would still watch Donnie Darko again (especially since I own the dvd), but I would definitely still have something uplifting to watch afterwards. The following are some of the extras associated with this Donnie Darko movie: dvd is divided up into two dvd discs and would also be of interest to aspiring writers/scriptwriters as well as movie buffs; disc one has audio commentary with writer/director Richard Kelly and Director Kevin Smith, disc two has Donnie Darko production diary (with optional commentary by director of photography Steven Poster), They Made Me Do It Too-The Cult of Donnie Darko, Storyboard to Screen Featurette, and Director’s Cut Theatrical Trailer. Last, but not least, there is the feature of The #1 Fan; A Darkomentary; Darryl Donaldson, a Donnie Darko movie fanatic, is shown meeting James Duval (actor who voiced Frank) and meeting various people affiliated with the movie at a San Diego California Comic Con. One more thing; there are various pop culture references in the Donnie Darko film such as; snippets to the song Head Over Heels by Tears For Fears, a homage to Tears For Fears with the feature of The Mad World song and a scene where Donnie Darko’s younger sister is part of dance troupe called Sparkle Motion (dancing to the song Notorious by Duran Duran) plus more pop culture references which would probably take up the length of another review.

A film you should definitely see in your lifetime

Donnie Darko is genuinely a film you should see at least once in your life. It may not turn out to be your cup of tea, but nonetheless it is a cinematic creation that you should experience. It is both shockingly weird and gloriously original, and it's manipulation of time and space is a subject that few films have tackled as boldly or as well. The story is that of young Donald Darko, a troubled high schooler in a dysfunctional family. The year is 1988, and the presidential election between George H.W. Bush and Michael Dukakis is fully underway. This is just one of the many things putting tension on the family, who are struggling with a number of issues, including Donnie's mental problems (which are hinted to be schizophrenia, making all of the events in the film highly questionable). The night that the film begins, Donnie sleepwalks to a nearby golf course, where he has a vision of a giant demonic rabbit-man named Frank who tells him that the world will end in 28 days and some hours, minutes and seconds, down to the exact second. That night, as Donnie is asleep on the golf course, and airplane turbine falls through Donnie's room, where he would have certainly been killed were it not for Frank. Thus begins a dark journey to the end of existence for the protagonist, and as Donnie's new collaboration with Frank will changed donnie forever, so will it change the lives of everyone who is close to him. There is no easy summary for the events in the film, or its narrative, so I suggest you see it for yourself. Whether you like the film or not, surely you'll agree with me that there is really nothing like it.

The Best it will ever be

While other's may say the image is terrible and that this blu-ray is not worth getting, I would have to disagree. This is a low budget movie made with very little money. The quality of the video is not due to the transfer, but rather the master print itself. This movie will never look any better than it does now unless they completely remade the film (shoot it from beginning to end all over again with higher quality cameras), which will obviously never happen. I personally find the soft look of the picture to add to the overall mood and feel of the film. If you're a fan of the movie and want the best version possible for your collection, then this blu-ray is for you.
