Compared to other DBZ movies, this was a let down. I still liked it because I am a fan, but i found myself constantly wishing a real DBZ enemy would show up.

Genre: Action, Comedy Length: 105 minutes, 85 for the Theatrical version. "Stunning animation and spellbinding action sequences highlight the first new Dragon Ball Z feature film in seventeen years! Beerus, the devastating God of Destruction, travels to Earth in search of an opponent who can match his brutal battle skills. Driven by visions of an all-powerful warrior known as the Super Saiyan God, Beerus threatens to destroy the planet unless a worthy challenger steps forward. Joined by an all-star cast of Dragon Ball characters, Goku must draw upon the power of his friends to unlock the strength of a Super Saiyan God - and stop Beerus's evil rampage!" New Dragon Ball Z? Don't mind if I do! I really should have gone to see it in the theaters back when they were screening it, though. Don't get near enough anime titles on the big screen. Battle of the Gods takes place after the end of the Z/GT series as Goku makes mention of his fusion with Vegeta. With the manga, it apparently occurs during a time-skip in chapter 517 #according to Wikipedia#. Don't really have to worry much about any spoilers here except for the ending which I'll avoid. I watched the uncut version so I can't comment on what was removed for the theatrical version. The story is pretty consistent with any shonen/action movie where a new forces comes to Earth, beats up the good guys, they power up, and then fight again. And in typical DBZ fashion, there's a lot of filler. It seemed like Akira Toriyama wanted to bring parts of all Dragon Ball series into play with this one as a bit of time is spent on Emperor Pilaf and his misfits since they're trying to steal the dragon balls again. Luckily we don't have to experience Yamcha trying to fight in this one... Battle of the Gods introduces a few things that I really liked as well as some that I wasn't as thrilled with. Being the first new film in 17 years, this one does make use of CG animation which is done pretty well. I don't think it was pulled off as well as they did it with the Berserk movies, but it moved smoothly and didn't detract from the fights. Also, after Goku got KO'd in just 2 shots at the beginning, Vegeta got some screen time and managed to put up a pretty awesome fight after seeing Bulma get knocked out. The movie doesn't end the way you'd initially expect, either! I was definitely happy with that as it leaves the door open to more movies. On the opposite side, I wish that they had stuck with the original version of "Cha-La Head-Cha-La" as the new one didn't feel quite as epic. Also, I enjoy some comedy, but it just felt like they abused it a bit too much as filler for the series. But! If a god of destruction comes to your neck of the woods, give him some pudding, sushi, and ice cream. They seem to love that stuff... Lastly, I can dig the red hair of the Super Saiyan God-mode, but skinny Goku just doesn't look right! Overall, I certainly enjoyed the film. I cried a little on the inside while watching Vegeta's bingo dance, though. Fantastic graphics, a phenomenal voice-acting job, great fights, and an entertaining story make it a must-own in my book. And despite what BBY's website says, you can probably find it in any store for the first week or two of release. My store doesn't have an anime section anymore but they got this one! Enjoy!

Battle of the Gods is what DBZ fans have been waiting for.It is a great reintroduction to the DBZ world adds no depth and erases the GT timeline from existence. This version adds 20 minutes to the movie and it makes it feel more fleshed out. This cut adds more jokes more dialog and is makes the movie just that much better.I would say only one or two scenes feel that they didn't add anything in regards to new scenes in the uncut version. With the extras it adds some cool videos with the voice actors recording lines and goofing off its fun and well worth it.If you are a DBZ fan enjoy if not then what is wrong with you buy this now lol.

Wow! that is all I can say, watching DBZ again, with the voice actors getting even better this was a dream come true. I was fortunate to watch this in the theater so it was awesome to get the extended cut for my home collection. I wish there was a Faulconer Score here but I guess thats ok. This is the start to Resurrection of Frieza and Dragonball Super so I cant complain. Cant believe 14yrs later Dbz is going through another renaissance. A must own for a fan especially if you weren't able to make the theatrical viewing.

    Classic DBZ at its finest

The fourteenth film in the series, this film counts as canon as the story takes place after the evil Kid Buu was destroyed by Goku. Beerus, the God of Destruction has awoken and seeks to battle the strongest fighter in the universe. Naturally he is drawn to Goku where he seemingly beats effortlessly. He then turns his sights to Earth when he encounters the Z fighters. What follows is a wild mash up of silly dances, humor, comedy, such great action, and a new transformation that ascends Goku to a new level of power. The usual tropes are here, the humor is reminiscent of Dragon Ball, the action is insane, and the animation is absolutely beautiful. If you're a hardcore fan of DBZ, check it out.

    Good, but not enough action

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is a pretty good DBZ film, but isn't one of the best DBZ movies. It is funny, but focuses too much on comedy and has little action. Also, the Super Saiyan God form is a tad disappointing and the final fight between Goku and Beerus doesn't last very long. I had read what a blockbuster this movie was, but there was a lot less action/fighting sequences than I thought. Still, the animation is amazing and it was nice to see all the familiar characters in the Dragon Ball Z universe.

I loved this movie. It was great seeing the characters again, and like the show, the movie provided plenty of laughs along with the action. My only complaint was some of the voices were really off.
