An interesting adaptation of the first book. Bears little resemblance to the David Lynch version which hasn't aged too well. I enjjoyed and appreciated it more on my 2nd viewing.

The 1965 Frank Herbert novel 'Dune' and the book series that followed traveled on very stormy seas into the great Science Fiction horizons of cult status. The story was considered too expansive, too complex, too physiologically retrospective to be interpreted into a motion picture. And then in 1984 David Lynch threw a sidearm cinematic breaking-ball that did precisely that... creating an expansive epic, an imaginatively dreamy physiological retrospective drama that challenged artistry in ways that only the 1980's could, with bold imagery set adrift on symphonic tidal surges. It was not appreciated, mostly ignored, or simply critiqued as tedious and mind-numbing. But then, in the 1990's, it became a cult champion of a cinematic masterpiece... watched secretly by geeks, teens, bohemian artists and edgy gamers in bedrooms, attics and basements. Shhh! It's a secret. Now, when artistic privilege is under attack by the useless common-denominator, 'Dune' makes a comeback as a reboot/remake. It's a cinematic monstrosity cleaved into two unapologetic films that do exactly the same thing as the 1984 original, only this time it's being done with state-of-the-art CGI, stretched out at double the time, crammed full of saucy details Lynch had been denied. The agony is that this is Part One, just setting up the background and some character introductions... Part Two is where all the real magic is supposed to be. The wait will be a misery!

Love this film! Looking forward to the next one! The good thing is we can watch it again anytime we want!

Very good looking 4k disc with Dolby Vision even though the movie is quite bland with colors. I get why the director probably used film grain ("the ancient future") for this movie but given it's a sci-fi movie I would have preferred no film grain. I'm giving this only 4 stars because the IMAX sequences are not on this disc. Why not include the actual meant to be scene version as well with this version (it's not like we can just go to an IMAX theatre and watch this movie now that its theatrical run is over) or re-release an IMAX version like there is for Batman vs. Superman?

Both movie and steelbook are a work of art! Probably one of the best looking 4K movies in my collection of over 200+!

The movie is outstanding and the process of buying it from BestBuy was smooth and predictable. Very happy with the transaction.

One of the great films of 2021 by a director who's proven that he can combine blockbuster-size visuals and action with intimate, low-key drama and character-development. This 4k-disc looks fantastic with Dolby Vision and an Atmos soundtrack which is integral to the films tension and enjoyment. This is the ONLY way to see this wonderful film, if you want to truly enjoy it. The one gripe would be that it lacks the theatrical releases IMAX-scenes, but I can live with that!

What can I say, it is about as perfect a rendition of the first part of the DUNE novel as one can expect. I loved the movie and can't wait for the second part. If you are a DUNE fan I believe you will enjoy this greatly and want to watch more than once. Sure can you pick it apart for some of the changes but no adaptation from a novel, particularly one as dense and great as this, will even satisfy every one. Give it a try!
