I personally thought this film was great, although I know it's divisive. But if you're looking for the best true film to show off your 4K TV (not a documentary like Planet Earth or a TV show like Stranger Things), this is stunning. Almost every shot in this film was show in IMAX, and true IMAX at that - not just blowing up a picture to be shown on a bigger screen. The clarity in every shot is phenomenal, and you can really see that everything you're watching was done 'in-camera' - no telltale CGI shots here. You see all the imperfections as well, like the camera shuddering in the cockpits because they actually strapped it to a plane and took to the skies. It's a triumph for traditional filmmaking in a time where that is being slowly forgotten.

Christopher Nolan's DUNKIRK is a unique telling of a large-scale rescue told from 3 perspectives (land, sea, and air) with their own timelines. The film embeds you in each setting without too much explanation (though there is enough), with the narratives converging as time ticks away. The IMAX photography is immersive, with a few 65mm shots throughout (these are slightly letterboxed, which some may find distracting, though I rarely noticed them). The sound is robust, with a driving score that often subsides to emphasize the suspense and urgency of the action. The ideal way to view this film at home may be with a 4K setup, but this Blu-Ray edition is top-tier and includes a thorough making-of feature on a separate disc. Highly recommended!

I had to watch the movie twice in order to catch what I missed from the first viewing as the story telling style is a little confusing on film. The style was probably better suited for a book than a movie. I would have liked more on the history and background of the events leading to Dunkirk.

5 out of 5 Stars. Dunkirk is a beautifully shot movie that captures the bravery of the men that fought in that part of France told through a series of intertwined short stories. The heroic civilian father and sons that sail their boat to Dunkirk to assist with the extraction of the British trips and sadly fall victim to a damaged British soldier is beautifully told and while heartbreaking, stands as the best short story in the film. The Spitfire, out of fuel, circling the beach at Dunkirk is an extraordinarily, beautifully shot scene and one of the best of any war movie in recent history. The 4K rendition is well worth adding to your library.
