    Nolan does it again

Every Nolan directed film I’ve seen has been great and Dunkirk continues this trend. The film drops you right into the action and doesn’t let up. This is not a slowly developing storyline like many movies. You want a gripping war film from minute one until the credits well then you have it here. The sound cannot be understated. Zimmer’s score is a continuous fear-inducing soundtrack that’ll have your heart racing. Please watch this with good speakers. Also, the steelbook packing is quite nice.

I thought it was very good. There are 3 timelines to follow during the movie, one is a week, one is a Day, and one is an hour. The movie tells the story of what is widely know as the "miracle at Dunkirk" during the early days of WW2. The British Soldiers have been pushed back to the English Channel by the German Army and are on the cusp of being annihilated if not for the courage of the English people who board their own private boats and travel across the Channel to get their "Army" back. Great scenery, great soundtrack make this movie a must see for War Movie buffs and the casual fan alike.

    Dunkirk Steelbook for Fans

Nice to have storytelling through visuals more than dialogue, even though there's still a bit of exposition throughout. Overrated by most people, as the storytelling through the time periods feels a little pretentious, but still a solid film. Steelbook is decent enough, not the best design, not the worst. If you're a fan of the film, worth picking up at a decent price, though I imagine there will likely be re-releases in the future with both a better design and price point.

I knew little of Dunkirk. In my history classes, we never made it to cover WWII with any depth. I loved how this movie played with the timeline and showed the stories from land, sea, and air. Mark Rylance is wonderful, as always, and I was amazed at how Christopher Nolan and Tom Hardy were able to make Hardy’s fighter pilot character so heroic even though he was mostly shown in closeup. I loved that character!

I love steelbooks so when I saw this on sale I had to get it. As steelbooks go, this one is pretty cool. This is an interesting film too. Christopher Nolan is a highly experimental filmmaker so seeing him take on a WWII story was interesting. You don't get a rich, story-driven movie, and there are lots of critics out there, but instead you get an experience as if you were there. This isn't my favorite film but I still love what Nolan did. This is just like the action scene in a movie, but it's the whole movie.

I know it was a blockbuster movie and they shouldn't really be "underrated", but this movie was in my opinion. I am not sure folks understand the genius that is Chrisopher Nolan. He made a story that most probably don't remember from their history books, into an unbelievable tale told and in an incredible way. Some ight get confused by the timeline of the movie but that is his style and the visual effects are mesmerizing.

I have a Home Theater set up with Dolby Atmos and 4 powerful subwoofers from a company called SVS. This movie has been recorded to make you feel every explosion and gunshot. If you enjoy "going to the movies" and great sounding movies, this is one to check out. That said, there is the historical significance of the story. It's a quiet story, not much said. But the images are gut-wrenching. Just imagine yourself there as one of those soldiers trying to get home.

this is not Nolan's best movie or the best war movie this year. I liked how it was shot, the sounds, music, scenes, and acting, but the story just wasn't as strong as expected.

    War From Many Angles

While I don’t consider this a Top 3 Christopher Nolan film it is worth seeing as far as WWII films go. We all know the final results of the war with the Allied Powers winning but this film deals with a battle that was lost. English and French troops were trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk and looking for a way across the English Channel back to England. We see the fight from land, air and sea and we also learn important lessons as well- losing a battle doesn’t mean that the war is lost. Heroes can be regular citizens and those that survive a lost battle aren’t losers.

Good Movie but a Bit Confusing

I bought this movie after watching The Darkest Hour because I wanted to see how this important battle was portrayed. Overall, it's a good movie, but none of the characters' background is provided. Also, Christopher Nolan fails to give you a sense of why the British were so desperate to get off the beaches. For the most part the separate stories of the characters never come together and the flipping back and forth make the film tough to follow. I'd recommend seeing this movie only if you're familiar with the background of Dunkirk already, but it is worth your time!

Harrowing and tense. This movie tells you a tale of survival from several perspectives and once the tension starts it doesn’t let up the entire movie. As soon as you’re caught up in the beautiful scenery you’re immediately ripped back to reality with the crisp accurate sound effects. Short of having your own IMAX setup, 4K HDR is the best way to experience this film and it’s even better with an Atmos setup. The sounds and scene will stick with you for some time.

Got this at a great price at BB. Thought the movie was slow and was surprised it was touted by so many others. Color and some great but don’t think I would buy it again.

    MUST OWN 4K DEMO DISC

You know the story, so I'm going to review the disc only. Demo picture and sound quality so use it to show off your 4K system. One small caveat, there are a few minutes that the director has chosen to use the widescreen aspect ration instead of the academy 70MM IMAX ratio. In light of this your may want to set your screen for IMAX instead of 2.2:1. Best Buy had this title on sale last week and in my opinion the air fight scenes alone were worth the price.

Intense Movie and Stunning in 4K

Thoroughly enjoyed this movie! The video (especially the iMax scenes in 1.78:1) are stunning and show what 4K with HDR can really do. My favorite scenes were probably the aerial/dogfight ones. The music is intense and basically a character itself. I expect I will enjoy it even more on a second viewing given there are 3 stories happening with overlapping timelines.

Stunning film — of all war narratives, the directorial choices in this one made me feel closer to the content than any other. It's less focused on a traditionally unified story and more focused on the specifics and horrifying subtleties of sequences of war and war-specific survival. The film transfer is great and will likely never need "remastering."

The steelbook is awesome. Very nice artwork in it. However, the movie itself is only average. Its based on a true story, but I thought the action in it could have been way better.

Christopher Nolan keeps up his average of reinventing film genres. This is a totally engrossing war film with great performances by mostly unknown young actors, with a couple of senior thespians around to keep them real. The blu ray really improved the overall thrust of the film, because I already had a normal dvd, but I knew I'd want an improvement when I could find one at a low price.

    An Instant War Classic

An instant war classic that finds its power in individual tales of heroism and renders them larger than life. Technically awe-inspiring, narratively inventive and thematically complex, “Dunkirk” reinvigorates its genre with a war movie that is both harrowing and smart. “Dunkirk” isn’t comfortable to watch; it never relents or relaxes. At the same time, it’s impossible to look away from it. One of the best UHD releases of 2017

    High tension

Build the tension of the evacuation well. The very British stoicism and pragmatic order of most of the background is a great counterpoint to the chaos of the war. There are a few leoas in logic, and the timeline is hard to follow- probably could have highlighted the scale of the “little ships” contribution better, but definitely some worthwhile perspective to an event that isn’t commonly addressed. Strongly recommend watching “Darkest Hour” at the same time for a more direct, non-interpretive view of the evacuation.

I did not see this in the theatres and was excited for the bluray experience at home. The visuals are stunning at times, but the story is Very hard to follow due to all the time jumping. And the soundtrack <vocals> are really hard to hear at times. Ive read that's ON PURPOSE and is just as the director wanted. which I don't understand because it makes understanding the dialogue so very difficult to hear and make sence out of. I love war movies but was really disappointed in this one.
