    Awesome, But Heats Up

Works really well. Easy hook-up, easy to follow instructions, plug-and-play worked very well with my MAC OS X, allows me to have my salvaged 1TB hard drive from my older computer as a nice little external HD for my laptop. Downfall: it does get hot. But, I run a little desk fan to it and it does the trick. This still gets 5 stars. Story: My desktop iMac died (slowly went down hill after upgrading it to Mountain Lion, thanks-no-thanks, Apple). So I opened that thing up and removed my 1TB hard drive (and my RAM) that I paid extra for. With this wonderful little enclosure device I was able to keep all of my files, didn't loose a thing. I honestly didn't need any files actually. So, using this hard drive enclosure I was still able to erase and format my hard drive using my laptop. Now, I have a nice 1 TB external drive for my laptop.

    Great external case

I had my PC die but a friend though I might be able to take the hard drive and using an external case try to read the drive. Unfortunately the drive appears to be non-functional but the external case was easy to set up the drive in and attach to the PC. I'll keep the case and use it with a functional hard drive. I have to comment on one reviewer that said it was not compatible with Windows 8. That is not a true statement as this is just a hard drive case, it must be something with the software/drivers on the hard drive that is not compatible. This device is compatible with Windows 8.

    Solid drive enclosure

I needed a couple enclosures and speed of acquisition was more of a priority than price, so I headed to BestBuy for two of this model. Super easy to install a drive in (probably could be done by someone with limited technical knowledge without the instruction manual). Unlike some enclosures, these have screw-on rails that attach the sides of the drive to the back/circuit board assembly. Still wiggles a little bit if you shake it, but since a 3.5" enclosure should be stationary while in use, not a big deal. USB 3 is a plus, considering some enclosures are still this expensive just for USB 2. I haven't tested USB 3 speeds yet, but I will be coming into some kit that has USB 3 relatively soon, so these are more future-proof. All in all, not a bad buy, I can't see another brick and mortar retailer charging less for something like this, but better prices can definitely be had online.

Bought this because an old PC failed and needed to access somes files on the Hard Drive. It was super easy to do and it also came with its own screw driver. I installed hard drive and plugged into the PC and within seconds i am viewing the files on the drive. Couldn't ask for a better product.

This SATA hard drive enclosure is performing very well for me. It was easy to set up with fairly good instructions. It is quiet and so far ( had it 2 months) very reliable as well. I would recommend this to anyone.

Great reliable durable caddy for SATA drives!

I really liked this drive caddy. I had to take a drive out of a PC and replace it with a new one. The customer wanted continuous access to everything that was on the old drive. So I used the Dynex caddy to house the old drive, making all of the customer's data available via USB. The main things I liked about the caddy was the durability, the ease of installation and the overall reliability. Its clean shape and lightweight case fitted easily into my work bag and the customer was delighted with the new Windows build and my solution to his data problem.

    Great for recovering data

My desktop wasn't booting to windows & I didn't want to reformat my machine without saving my files. windows 7 has a backup function on the recovery window but I didn't trust it would retrieve all non-typical files like pst and other custom files. Very simple to use. Took off my hard drive and set it up in this enclosure. Then accessed all my files from a different machine.

    Solid build quality

I've owned this drive for almost a year and it's still working well. I was impressed by the build quality, especially at this price point. Many hard drive enclosures are a bit on the flimsy side. This one is nice and solid. Unlike other enclosures, I had no issues with cabling or connectors getting caught when sliding the drive in. I would record this if you're looking for a permanent or semi-permanent location for an old hard drive. Just a heads up, the fit is a bit tight to recommend if you intend to change drives frequently.

Best answer to my dead computers hard drive.

When my computers mother board died, I purchased another computer. I had no idea how to transfer or obtain all of the personnel data that was stored on my dead computers hard drive. It was a very simple task to remove the hard drive and install it in to the ATA Hard Drive Enclosure. With in 1/2 hour I was utilizing my dead computers hard drive. Well worth the cost.

I love this enclosure for spare drives laying around the house to use external drives with your computer. Very easy to put together and looks great. USB 3.0 is so fast to transfer large files as long as your computer has 3.0 ports. Great purchase. Only negative is that it needs its own power supply. WOuld be nice if the pc would be able to power it without and additional cable plugged into the wall.

My desktop died and I had years of family photos on my computer. So I purchased this drive to retrieve my photos off of the hard drive. I plugged it all in and copied over my photos to my new computer. The entire thing took less than 20 minutes, well worth the money.

Brought extended use and thus life to an older drive being removed from our Drobo. Made both part of PogoPlug off site storage. Easy build. Four screws removed, insert drive, four screws back in, good to go.

    Works, but...

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Just saying...in most ways it works pretty well. My one concern is how it always seems to be running, and how hot it gets. I can see the benefit of getting a WD Live external drive storage instead, since there's more benefits to doing so. (My other drive, which is indeed a WD LiveStorage drive, isn't running 24/7 yet is 100% available. Probably due to the additional software and a miniboard/interface inside the enclosure.) And FYI, I have it connected but it's just for copying stuff to...and not very often. So there's no real reason for it to be cranking.

    Works with 3TB drives

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have a PC with 7 drives. It suddenly froze up, then would not boot into Windows 7. It would boot after removing all drives except the system drive. The hang seemed to be caused by two drives. I used the enclosure to test the two suspect drives. My 2TB Seagate drive was dead, but I was able to access the 3TB WD drive which I put back into the PC. I tested a 1TB Seagate drive and was getting sustained reads of 94 MB/sec. For faster drive swapping, I would prefer an enclosure with a quick locking and ejection mechanism.

Setup was easy. I use this enclosure to attach my hard drive to my router using USB. It has not given me any problems whatsoever. I would have liked to see it about 5-10 dollars cheaper but, whatever.

    Does the job.

This enclosure is fine. Sturdy metal casing. Easy enough to install a 3.5" drive. This was purchased out of necessity, needed it fast so I went to the store and this was the only one available. Nothing wrong with this enclosure, but you can probably find something better if you shop around. My main disappointment is with the lights (power/activity). I would have liked it better if the lights were on the opposite side where the cables plug in, since most of us will have the cables going back away from us, therefore cannot see the lights. But overall, not a big deal.

    Didn't work with Mac

I bought this enclosure to replace a Rocketfish enclosure I just bought several months ago. The Rocketfish device worked great until I tried to update to Mountain Lion on my Mac. I bought the DynexT device because it was the only thing that my local BestBuy had in stock. I put the HD in the enclosure and plugged it in. Its supposed to be plug and play, but my Mac (running Lion still) didn't recognize the disk. I returned the first one, thinking it may be defective, but the second enclose did the same thing. Thinking I may have dammaged the HD, I put it back into the Rocketfish device and it worked find... the DnexT enclosure was the problem. Can't recommend for Mac users. Good Build - Works as advertised

I bought this with hesitation, but was pleasantly surprised. Construction is solid. The front panel integrates with a bracket that you screw your hard drive into, which makes for solid overall device stability. You screw in your hard drive with the supplied screws AND SCREWDRIVER (thanks!). The enclosure has no fans, so any noise you hear is coming from your drive, not the enclosure. My only complaint - the activity light should be brighter than the power light so you can see if the drive is working from a distance. Good Job Dynex!
