Sturdy and holds smaller drives also
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this in a bind when my laptop died and I needed to recover data from the hard drive and keep the drive protected. Apparently I was so frantic about it that I accidentally bought the 3.5" size, but it actually holds the 2.5" hard drive pretty well. Fits just fine with room to spare, obviously, but it's not loose or rattling around. I guess the moral here is if you accidentally buy this for your 2.5" hard drive, it'll most likely be OK.

Wondeful external enclosure
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an excellent external enclosure, transfers to and from it are super fast, and I'm not using it with USB3.0 yet, very easy to setup and get it ready for work, it even comes with small screw driver to make your job even easier. My only complain is that it can easily get a little hot when under a lot of stress, other than that, I would buy again anytime.

Not good for constant access
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This enclosure is fine for accessing occasionally for data backups or rescuing data from a failing PC, but my main use for this was as a networked storage via USB on my router. This unit performed great when plugged into my PC for the initial dump of data onto it, but when I connected it to the router, suddenly my connection to the drive would slow down or even go out (not great when you're streaming or moving large chunks of data around). When I switched back to my old 2.0 enclosure all my issues cleared up. I just believe the controller can't handle the stream from the router, so will probably be returning.

Misleading Description
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used this to house a large hard drive used for storing movies, music, etc. To bad that when connected to the USB 3.0 ports on my laptop the connection was unstable at best, and would fail and disappear from the list of available drives, something that isn't happening with my other USB 3.0 drives. If I moved it to the USB 2.0 port, there were no issues. The logic board for the enclosure is probably a piece of junk dug up from a dumpster. For housing a high capacity mechanical drive it does what it needs to (since most mechanical drives can make use of USB 3.0 speeds anyway), but it really feels junky.

Disconnects with fast Seagate Hybrid Drive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The drive enclosure did NOT work with a new Seagate 1TB Hybrid drive (a magnetic drive with an SSD front end). I took the drive enclosure back and got another one, that one had the same issues. I reproduced this issue with both units on 2 different systems (a laptop and a desktop). I have a Seagate adapter that works from SATA to USB3, and it works great, no issues. So the Dynex apparently has a flaw in its design. I suspect that the faster data transfer speed of the hybrid drive is faster than a normal drive and is uncovering the bug.

Not compatible with USB 3.0 on OSX only 2.0
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If your trying to upgrade your external hard drive to a USB 3.0 enclosure and you run OSX. Do not purchase this product. Even though your system_info will recognize it as USB 3.0 the transfer rate will only be 2.0. The only place where this is noted is in the instruction Manuel. Poor description on package.
