This may be a good product for someone else, but I expected more than hot air being pushed around for the price that was paid. You pretty much have to have a room that is already cool for this to work as described.

Posted .Hi, this is Aimee with Dyson. Our air multiplier line, unlike an AC unit that is designed to chill the air, consists of blade-less fans. The air temperature does not change, it is the air flow which cools the user. Each of the machines have the option of increasing the speed of the air expelled from the machine, which is adjusted with the remote control.

With regard to cool or chilly airflow, coming from the Dyson AM09, our Purifiers & fans do not have Freon, so they are not an air conditioner, but it does work better than standard fans. Dyson fans use Air Multiplier technology to create a powerful stream of uninterrupted airflow. Air is accelerated through an annular aperture, creating a high-velocity jet of air. This passes over an air foil-shaped ramp, channeling its direction and creating areas of low pressure behind and around the fan. The change in pressure forces surrounding air to be drawn into the airflow, resulting in a powerful stream of smooth cooling air.

This is Miella from Dyson. Thank you for your review. Unlike an air conditioning unit where the air is refrigerated, the AM09 pushes air around and above you to cool you. Fan output is weak even when you choose direct airflow as opposed to defused. Haven’t tried heater for than a few minutes just to make sure it gets hot. I’m keeping it because I fought hard with the family to get this $350 fan. It still looks kewl though (as I wipe my forehead).

Unlike your traditional fan, the Dyson AM09 generates a high-velocity jet of air that exits the loop amplifier and creates an area of low pressure that draws in air from behind the fan. As the jet of air leaves the front of the loop amplifier more air is drawn in from the surroundings due to ‘viscous shearing’, amplifying the initial airflow even further providing you with cool air.

Thank you for providing this review. Sorry to hear the AM09 has not met your expectations. Dyson invests more than $3m a week in researching and developing in new and better technology. We have over 850 engineers working on new ideas creating technology that is high performing and built to last.
The AM09, for example, uses Jet Focus control to change the behavior of airflow without the movement of any external parts. This new technology gives the ability to switch between fast whole room heating or long reach personal heating. So as well as being a fast fan heater to heat the room evenly, you can now choose focused mode for long-range powerful airflow or diffused mode to gently mix the surrounding air.
In addition to this, the Dyson Hot + Cool™ fan heater has re-engineered airflow paths for reduced air turbulence, making it 75% quieter than its predecessor. It also has a new sleep timer feature, making it perfect for night time use. This can be set between 15 minutes and 9 hours.

Please note that AM09 does have two modes of airflow, a diffused mode for whole room use, as well as a focused mode for personal use. Depending on the mode being used, will determine how strong the airflow feels and how the heat or cool air will blow out of your machine. Jet focus controls will be outlined with a narrow or wide airflow mode and your unit will also display this in the display window when you select between the two. It doesn't work any better or do anything different than less expensive heaters/fans. It DOES get hot on the top where the heat blows out. It works well, but is not silent. It sounds like the average fan. I own several different types of electric heaters that are far less expensive than this one and they work just as well or better. You're Paying For The Name And Unique Style If You Buy This Product. It was a gift to me, but I never would have spent that much money on it. The average $50-$100 electronic heater/fan looks different, but has all of the same features. The remote is a unnecessary extra for all heater/fans if you set the thermostat to the correct temperature. It is a good product that works well, but it's not worth the price considering the similar products available for much, much less.

Based on variables such as ceiling height, windows, and doorways, will determine how long it takes to effectively heat the room fully. However, this machine is designed to heat both large and small areas of the home. Of course, the larger the area the longer it will take to effectively heat.

Pricey for what you get

Not that quiet either and isn't much better at heating. I had a 12x12 room that took about 30 minutes to heat up during the winter and my previous $100 heater did the same thing. Ended up returning it.

The heater has a setting up to 90 degrees however it was directly in front of me and didn’t feel very warm at all. Also, Best Buy’s description is wrong as this is 1500W not 150W so you might blow a breaker.
