Running only when needed and quiet or off when idle. It detects the air is polluted and goes to work, it removes all the smoke, gasses, and any bad smells that linger in the air. I also love the heater functions, it heats quickly and the heat remains constant. Overall, very quiet, intelligent, and hard working purifier, great buy and heavily recommend for every house to at least have one of the Dyson purifiers.
