The cooling fan is simply that a fan. A simple$20 fan and sepreat filter would have done. And would not have taken as much space. The ascetic appeal is alright. And at least is safer around children. Since it does not have blades.

Posted .Hello there, this is Kelly with Dyson. Dyson Pure Hot + Cool purifying fans have been designed to deliver a powerful stream of cooling or heated, purified air from the front of the machine. Dyson Pure Hot + Cool units will also offer the option to divert air through the rear annular at a 45˚ angle, creating a more diffused airflow. Also, thanks to the 350 degree oscillation, Dyson Pure Hot + Cool purifying fans can be used to help project purified air around the whole room and may be used to deliver heated and purified air to every corner of the room. Airflow angles can also be customized using the remote control or Dyson Link app. You will also have the option of a Night mode which will use the machines quieter settings, reducing airflow speeds to range from 1 to 4. Night mode will also dim the display and the machine will run more quietly, making it ideal for use while sleeping. Not so good in heat mode in the bedroom. Fan cycles too much, even on manual setting which should limit fan speed. When heat elements come on, fan "roars" to life, waking me up every time. No intelligent response from Dyson as to what, if anything, can be done. So, wasted money on the heater.

When using your machine in heat mode, once the target temperature you set has been reached, your machine will idle. Once the room temperature falls below that target, the machine will begin expelling heated air again, which sounds like what you're describing. This happened 70 days after purchase. Dyson support agreed to replace the machine but it was out of stock. I contacted them 2 weeks later and now the HP04 is discontinued and they’ll shop an upgraded machine - which is also out of stock. They’ll email me if something ever comes back in stock and then I can request a replacement. Pros - when it worked, it worked great. No way to turn on the heat using the app but can turn off. Cons - dead at 70 days
