I recently purchased the Ember - Temperature Control Smart Mug² in the stunning 14 oz Blue color from Best Buy, and I must say, it has completely transformed my daily coffee and tea experience. My wife has gotten some good use out of her Ember and loves how it keeps her coffee or tea hot. We have not had any issues so far with the finish flaking inside as others has noted but we have only used plastic spoons in it. The app is easy to use and the mug turns off when it senses it is empty. The only reasons for it to be 4/5 stars is the battery life is not the greatest if you like to keep the temperature at the higher end, AND, the price - could easily be at least $50 less....hard to imagine there is $130 worth of tech and materials. Best buy doesn't have other options for 'smart' mugs and it was a Christmas last second gift...oh well. Also, the battery will last about 20-25 minutes if you keep the temp around +140. Of course this is a non-issue if you can arrange to have the charging plate nearby such as a desk or end table. If you don't mind the steep price I would recommend it.

The mug itself is great. I personally prefer drinking coffee from a mug as opposed to a thermos. I would sip on my coffee throughout the day, but by the end of the day, it would be ice cold. This mug fixes that. Now my coffee is hot the whole day. That is as long as I keep the mug on its charging coaster, as the battery does not seem to last too long on its own. This is not too big of an issue though, as I keep my coaster on my desk while working. The mug itself is easy to operate. If you don't use the app, it will automatically keep the coffee at 135F. However, not using the app misses out on a lot of the advertised features of the mug. The app looks like it should be easy to operate, but let's just say it should not be used as a role model for other IOT apps. If the mug loses connection to the phone, the app doesn't know how to react. It will sometimes think the mug is connected when it is not, and other times it will think the mug is disconnected when it's actually connected. Occasionally, the phone will get spammed with pairing requests from the mug. The app has a 1.3 star reading on the Google Play Store for a reason. To make matters worse, it hasn't been updated since September. This gives me little hope that the apps problems will be fixed soon.

I was looking at this for a while and only pulled the trigger once I had enough certificates to justify the purchase. The mug DOES warm up coffee and keeps it warm which is great. But this product is not worth it's retail price. First, the battery does not last long - not a big problem for me as I keep the charging plate on my desk and use it as a coaster. Second, for a fraction of the cost, you can get an insulated tumbler that will keep your coffee warm. I think this is a good product but only recommend if you have reward certificates to use when this goes on sale.

Decent but very pricey for what it is. I set to keep my drinks at 145 degrees and it does do that. Battery life is not great, bordering on bad. This is best for those who will be near the charging coaster and be able to set it on there between sips. If you plan to carry it around the house or office you will get 30 minutes to an hour of the battery before it dies. Have to be somewhat particular about how it plops into the coaster also. I like it but would also advise you to wait until there is a sale on it.

OK, so this review is for the white one because I bought both colors. I was very happy with the mug's performance. It really is a different way of thinking and you get used to the idea that if you're called away, you can come back to a hot cup of java even after half an hour or so. I normally enjoy two cups of coffee every day. That's just my habit. I've had the cups for 9 months and have noticed only a slight reduction in the total time.that it'll keep the contents hot. All is well there. It sits on the charger pretty much all the time except when in use; maybe there's a better way to treat the battery :) . I had occasion to write to Ember directly and let them know that the finish on the bottom of the white cup had worn through to metal (steel) and that the cup, inspire of my pretty fastidious cleaning regemin, had stained badly. I think I would be a totally different reviewer here had it not been for Ember's response. The company stood behind their product, did not question my care and use of the mug and offered a replacement within 48hrs of my initial email. . I am impressed with the product overall, it's a cool invention and it works well. I was totally impressed with Ember's customer satisfaction effort and because of that, I can wholeheartedly recommend the product. Looks like I'll be sending a couple out as Christmas gifts this year too :)

This mug does everything that I wanted to do. Keeps my coffee at the exact temperature I want while still being able to drink from an open ceramic mug. It is beautiful and easy to use!

It’s definitely on the pricier side, but if you’re someone who hates reheating coffee, it’s totally worth it.

This is a great mug for the all day coffee drinker. The battery life is not great so make sure you leave the coaster style charger nearby. Very high quality and easy to clean.

My wife has a hybrid work schedule: 40% at home 60% in office. I got her both a 14oz mug and the travel mug. The travel mug works flawlessly in the 2-3 months we've had it. And the travel mug has touch-senesitive contols on its body so you don't have to download the app to use and adjust it. The 14oz mug, meanwhile, can only be controlled through the app (other than its power button on the bottom) and is great when it works, but for some reason has to be re-paired upon each use with the app and can at times take up to 2-3 minutes of troubleshooting before it reconnects to the phone app, (e.g. putting it into pairing mode one or a few times before it connects, or sometimes even requiring a factory reset before it pairs with the app.) Both the travel and regular mug versions are unnecesaey luxuries, but boy, do they serve their purpose and make you feel like you have a luxury product (especially the travel mug, but the regular mug too when it works.) For reference, both my wife and i have recent Samsung Galaxy S-series Android phones, so you may or may not have have the same experiences with these products and your phones connecting as we did if you use different devices with the Ember app.

Awesome mug! I’m in meetings the majority of days, which tends to mean cold coffee. Not anymore! I purchased another charger for my desk which keeps my coffee hot all day! Without the charger I was getting roughly 3 hours of hot coffee at 120 degrees. If you prefer surface of the sun hot coffee, your experience will likely be a shorter amount of time.

I loved using this mug for the 18 months it lasted for. It kept my coffee hot for a few hours, longer if I let it sit on the charger by my desk. First the good: When it works, it does a good job at maintaining the configured temperature. It's a great concept, isn't too heavy, and has a decent battery life if you enjoy sipping coffee or tea. The ugly: After 18 months, the ceramic coating began to flake off the lip of the mug. I only ever washed it with a soft bottle brush. Ember claimed the coating was FDA approved so would not harm me if ingested and offered me 20% off of a replacement mug which costs almost as much as the retail packaging. Since I'd rather not like ceramic flakes with my coffee I'm no longer using the mug, and given how expensive the mug is, I'm not considering replacing it. The bad: the software just isn't great. It constantly tries to pair with the mug and requires periodic factory resets to fix pairing issues, causing me to lose my mug customization. Physically powering off the mug and force killing the android app seems to prevent these issues. Ember doesn't have an e-waste recycling program for when the battery hits its end of life, and it's not replaceable. They encouraged me to bring it to Best Buy for recycling instead. When the battery runs out of power, the existing insulation in the mug does a poor job of maintaining temperature as well- I get better thermal performance from a ceramic mug. Conclusion: gets bonus points for a neat idea, but if it's only going to hold up for 18 months, I say stay away. Buy a dishwasher safe sealed insulated mug instead- it may not maintain the temperature with the same precision, but it'll last longer and is significantly less costly.

I love this mug. I bought a black mug but could not see coffee in it because I drink it black. I gave the black mug to my wife and I bought this white one. I set this mug to 130 degrees, my perfect drinking temperature. I watch TV in the morning while getting ready for work and the battery life is sufficient for that. Putting a lid from my thermal mugs keeps the coffee warm for a longer period. I have a charger on my desk and it keeps my coffee warm all morning. My only con is that the charging base stopped working 13 months after I bought the mug. I have the Total membership but I have to have a tech look at the device before they will warranty it. Not a big deal. Be sure to buy the extra warranty as it covers all you BestBuy purchases.
