Price point, baby

It's a common disk shaped battery. It gets used when current draw is low, and the manufacturer wants a low profile for 3 volts. But if you want the best price on something like this you probably want to go some place that stocks lots of low priced items rather than an electronics superstore, if you catch my drift :-)
