Normal batteries, still ticking in my toy. The unit price gets lower if you buy a bigger packet but not sure about self life.

Batteries have different ratings for how much power they contain as all AA batteries are not created equal. Look at the "Mah" (milli amp hour) rating on the batteries, the higher the number, the longer it will last.

Batteries work great and last. However I need to switch to rechargeable batteries for a better environment. Most likely via Energizer brand.
