Customers are saying

Customers frequently mention the Packr Backpack's numerous compartments and roomy size as significant advantages, praising its capacity to hold laptops and other essentials. However, concerns exist regarding the solar panel's charging efficiency and durability, as well as the sturdiness and comfort of the straps and the quality of the materials used. Some users have experienced issues with strap breakage and slow charging times.

I actually had to return it because it wasn't big enough for my Asus ROG, but I was impressed with how well it was made.

An attractive bag . I gave this to my son. Did not even know about rechargeable solar panel. Later asked how well it works ; I guess not great. Charge would take way too long to be practical. Stick with cords and sockets.

It's Camo GRAY, not green. Trust the picture, not the words. This has become my everyday backpack. It's not huge, but more than big enough to hold a number of battery packs, my Bluetooth keyboard, tablet, jacket, umbrella, and other essentials. It is *NOT* a power bank or battery pack, it is a solar cell with 5V USB (standard Type A port) output. Therefore it cannot "hold" or "store" a charge. If there's enough light hitting the solar panel, it generates electricity and outputs it from the USB port. If there's no light or not enough, there is no electricity provided to the port. SO, for BEST RESULTS, pair this backpack with a battery (power bank), but MAKE SURE the power bank CAN BE CHARGED WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY OUTPUTTING. Not all power banks can do this, and if you get one that can only do one at a time, you will need to (re)charge the battery, then disconnect it and connect to your phone. which is inconvenient. The panel is flexible, the sticker says it's "solar on plastic" - it's not foldable, and I avoid situations where it might crease, but it definitely flexes with the backpack and its content, and is tolerant of bumps and such. The actual charge port is on the inside of the outer (smaller) pocket and has a rubber port cover. There are pockets (two half-width, one full) immediately under the port which are meant to hold your devices. The half-width pockets hold my LifeCharge 16800 mAh battery with a little wiggle room. More than enough space for a 5-inch screen phone. The pack itself advertises "1/2 the charge rate of normal charger" - but it doesn't seem to define what "normal" rate is. In full Pacific Northwest daylight through a window I measured 1100 mA current from the panel (directly to my phone, measured with Ampere and GSam Battery Monitor) which was surprising, actually. It's definitely NOT enough current to direct-charge devices that require 1.2 A or 2 A charging, which is why I recommend using it to charge a power bank, that way the power bank will provide constant amperage to your device and the pack will just recharge the battery. BE CAREFUL though, as this will make the power bank warm. The media passthrough port is near the charge port and pockets, so I use it to run a USB cable from my power bank out. That way I can charge my phone while using it. There's also a passthrough from the small compartment to the bigger compartment. Not sure I'd buy this at full price as there are other, larger solar panels available, but as a Deal of the Day I think it was a great deal, especially if you already need a backpack.

We are leaving on a backpacking trip across Costa Rica soon and this backpack should work perfect. I purchased an Insignia 10k mah portable battery and wiring into the solar panel. I left it out in the sun yesterday with approx 40% charge. I came back about 5 hours later at the solar cell charged it all the way up to 100%! My wife is somewhat addicted to her phone and likes to take lots of pictures. Many of the places we will be visiting do not have plug in power. Using this backpack Im hoping the battery will be charging all day in the backpack and that will give her plenty of power throughout the trip. This will also be a good thing to have around for safety reasons as we will always be able to charge our phones and other devices if we run into trouble. Im hoping it holds up as it will be put to the test. We have 3 trips to central america planned before the end of the year and we will be bringing this along for all of them. I only wish I could find a very large/flat battery pack (maybe 30k mah or more) that would fit in this backpack that had the capability to charge 110v devices such as my surface pro or laptop. I know it would probably take days to charge with this backpack, but it would be worth it if needed in a pinch. If I were to make any recommendations to Enerplex I would make a backpack with an integrated battery solution to make it easier to deal with.

Comes with no charge, says it charges items faster than a wall socket but I've noticed anything faster. It is nice to keep a charge going when in the sun on my motorcycle if I am needing to use a GPS or while walking around and my phone is dying to keep it alive. The pack the solar panel is connected to doesn't seem to hold the power long after the panel leaves the sun, even if it's just moving to the shade. Got this on a daily deal for over 50% off so I can't be mad.

My son wanted this and bought it for himself (OK - he repaid me for it). It was a Deal of the Day. I can see why. In short, I tried using the solar charging feature on it and couldn't get it to work. My son doesn't seem to have the exact lifestyle (commuter or student who would be recharging devices outside) that make this a good fit. The backpack doesn't really leave his room at all but is available when a need arises. Maybe the charging feature will work for him then.

I had read the reviews before shopping this item and therefore I proceeded with my purchase. However, I'm very disappointed. Took it out on a hiking trip to test it. We left the backpack positioned in an good angle to receive direct sun light and I plugged my iphone. Phone will signal and vibrate that it was charging and seconds later, it would go back to normal - no charging icon. So that's the charging part, the backpack materials are very cheap. I'm a backpack lover so I can see cheap materials right away. Very disappointed as I was intended to make this my traveling backpack.
